Some friends and I decided to try O'Neills for lunch. I was pretty excited because the space looks so much nicer and is much more comfortable since they took over from the Dugout. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. First of all, we sat at our table for a solid 15 minutes before our server acknowledged us. We ordered an appetizer that never made it's way out to us, but at least we were not charged for it. And the highlight of my meal was when my friend pulled a creepy crawler bug off my plate. Thankfully I had only gotten a few bites in. When our server came over to ask if everything was okay, she walked away before we could tell her. Eventually we were able to explain what had happened. They removed my meal from the bill. The explanation for the bug was that the door was open. Which is totally understandable, but this little critter didn't have wings. He appeared to be a signal of other issues aside from an open door. The server was apologetic, but said, "if you decide to come back, I hope you have a better experience". I thought that was a weird way to entice us to return. I would also think that maybe a manager would want to come by and apologize, especially considering that it's a new business. I won't be returning.
Well, am I ever glad this place replaced the dugout.
Came in for lunch and sat at the bar. Brian our bartender, was attentive and friendly. 10 beers on tap, ranging from Blue Moon Ginger bread to Stella.
Had the beef barley soup, which was made from scratch and delicious. Fresh barley, vegetables and meat.
The kale veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I ever ate. Fresh and homemade and not a frozen hockey puck. Served with sweet potato fries all for $10!
The decor is Irish Disney chic. It's a little bizarre, but a massive improvement to the linoleum tile lunch room feel of Dugout. The bar is a nice piece of reclaimed wood.
The food could be a little more Irish, but let's be honest the Irish aren't known for their cuisine.
I've been here several times since the place changed over from the old Dugout bar. I really like what they've done with it as they've elevated from "dive" bar status to something a bit more upscale (and more edible food for sure).
I last came on New Years Eve prior to a house party I was attending with some friends. They were able to easily accommodate a group of 10 of us with no problem at all. The waitress was fantastic and very attentive. Overall I always enjoy the food here, and their vegetarian options keep everyone in our group satisfied. I had the Dublin Works Burger – jack cheese, topped with jalapenos, sauteed onions and a side of thousand island dressing (which I'll just use a small amount of on the burger itself). Burgers are always cooked well (when you ask for medium, it's actually medium) and full of flavor from the accompanying items.
Def a huge step up from the place that used to be here, and one worth checking out for either a night out or just a dinner and drinks. The bar area itself still try's to keep the old "sports bar" atmosphere to it, so you can always just grab a seat and watch a game here as well
I try not to be too critical of new restaurants because I know they are working out the kinks, but even I have my limits. Our waitress was hard to get a hold of, neglected to bring my husband one of his appetizers and well the BUG on the plate was a BIT OF AN ISSUE FOR ME. The food was fine, nothing to write home about, but I can't really see myself going back.
I will at least commend management for not charging me for my meal.
