I've been coming to Rockaway at a rate of ~1x/yr for the past 22 years (read: my entire life) because I have family that live down there. Before O'Sake, I'd only been to two different restaurants during all of those visits – and it would've been only 1 had our favorite diner not closed down. What can I say, we're a family of habit.
So as you can imagine, it was a big moment when we decided to try a new place, O'Sake Japanese. I'd say it was a success! The restaurant was nice and quiet, and the service was good- very friendly. The sushi was pretty standard. I got 2 sushi rolls: one mushroom, one asparagus-cucumber; the mushroom roll definitely won. I liked that you could order any roll with brown rice (though it's a dollar extra).
They also plenty of options apart of sushi: hibachi, teriyaki, bento boxes.. our party ate a pretty wide variety and everyone was happy with their food.
I had the chance to try osake a few times when I'm in the area but its def overpriced sushi. The quality is not bad but i would much rather make the drive out to brooklyn or queens for cheaper and better! What would normally cost me $30 in brooklyn ends up close to $50 here.
Walked in here after day at rockaway beach, it's about 1mile. The service started off slow but waitress was nice. I got the pork gyzo, spicy tuna and Philly roll. The Gyzo were a bit too over pan fried. The sushi rolls were delicious! Restuarant is pretty clean and modern in comparison to the others near the beach. Price is reasonable! Avg roll $6-7
