“Firstly this is an oasis in an area known for FIT, the Garden and where commuters pass through on their way to Penn Station.”
“If you want to keep things simple, this is an excellent choice: one of the best risottos I've had in New York, creamy with a firm enough consistency.”
“The escargot is the best I've had and their truffled Brie is perfect- like honestly truffled brie what can be more perfect.”

One of the coziest spots in the area, a stone's throw away from Penn Station for the commuters struggling to find a good sit-down meal.
Only real drawback was that service was supremely slow that night, hopefully we can give this place another go.
Happy hour is 4-7PM and only at the Bar
We ordered the cheese board and the meat board, $10 each. A great deal 🙂 each board had 5 different types of cheese or meat, and a little side salad + slices of apple of some grapes.
And each of us had a glass of wine for $7
I would come back for HH or come back and try dinner/brunch
Went before a concert at Madison Square Garden and it was very convenient-about a block away. It's a small and casual spot with very good food. There were 4 of us and we tried several different items. I started with the onion soup that was very good-lots of cheese and tasty. We had some pate which was very good and enjoyed it with the nice bread. I had the tapas plate for dinner-the selection changes monthly. I especially liked the ham and cheese croissant. There also were an empanada with dipping sauce, salad, salmon salad with crostinis and cherry tomatoes stuffed with mozzarella. One person had the Dorado fish which was a whole fish and really liked it Two had the escargot and really liked them. The beet salad was really huge and tasty. There are about an equal amount of appetizers/tapas and entrees on the menu. It was fun, though to try a variety of items. Service was excellent throughout the meal. Seating is at high tables. On the second Tuesday they have live music and while we were there, appeared to be a wine tasting in another room.
It started out a little rough with a really-tasteless foie gras and I'd say slightly slow service… but then the rest of the food came out and everything was daisies.
I understand that many people come to this slightly cavernous eatery here for the wine. But we had the roast chicken and the steak sandwich. Both were wonderful but I'd probably give the nod to the sandwich and, truth-be-told, a side of fries which were the best I've had in a long, long time (perfectly fried, slightly thick, very European with the sauce to match).
For some reason we've been eating a lot of French food lately and I have to admit I'm happy to do so. This version was modern and light and delicious. We'll be back…
Food: Amazing, Wine: Good, Service: Poor.
I would give just about anything right now to be eating that dish of Seafood Pappardelle, excuse me, Pappardelle aux Fruits de Mer… OMG it was to die for. I didn't even know I liked mussels, now I do! Plus it had several large shrimp and lots of baby scallops in it, too. And now I really need to know how to make such a killer buerre blanc sauce. I had some kind of Sauvignon blanc blend that I just didn't really care for. My bf got a syrah and the steak entrée both of which were very good. I ate most of his vegetables and he helped me eat all my pasta so, win win!
Now, unfortunately, to the service. Something happened almost as soon as we got there. It was a dispute between a waiter and a patron. Apparently a server had 'punched' a patron on the arm and called her a racist. I don't know if this is true. What I do know is that they sent the server home and they were one person short. As a result, one of the owners became our server. But he is better suited to management because he essentially ignored us for about 30 minutes before getting us water and taking our drink orders by asking "Do you know what you want?" Not even a hello. Eventually we got our orders and the food came out pretty quickly, so thank you kitchen staff! But then our 'server' proceeded to order and eat his own dinner at the bar for the next 30-40 minutes, only once managing to quickly ask us how our food was. We had to wave him over to get the check.
We left with our bellies pleased but our patience, not so much. It really is a shame that I'm left not wanting to experience that again because the food was so good and not terribly priced for a French place.
Came here with a group of people. Staff was quite friendly to us. I had this huge beet salad dish that was actually really good. Price was not the cheapest but I didn't have to pay for mine so that was good. The bathrooms are nice and they gave us this interesting pile of candy when we were getting ready to leave. Great space for conversation and while not my cuisine, it was a nice experience and a good time was had by all concerned.
I came here on a Tuesday around 3pm with a friend of mine to upwind and relax after a hectic post-holiday week. After work and school, relaxing is well needed. When we arrived there was only the other guests dining but it's 3pm people are still at work in the city. Around 5:30 other guest started to arrive. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. It was such a nice and quiet setting. The cheese board was good, I forgot to ask for the cheese AND MEAT board(my fault). The shrimp cocktail was good. The wine was good. Very clean business. I'll be here again soon.
This area is a dining desert. It's fine for grab-and-go lunch, but a sit down dinner? Hard to come by. I had to meet near Penn for dinner plans and this became the obvious choice.
The space is weird. The back area totally lacks ambiance and proximity to the POS and bathrooms doesn't help.
We split the pate, which was fine, but I had to request mustard which is usually pretty standard.
I had the seafood pasta, which was very good but so cumbersome. The tail-on shrimp were stacked in the middle of the plate, a sprig of rosemary down the middle and the dish was surrounded by a protective fence of mussels. I liked it, but eventually had to give up on the mussels — it was a lot of unexpected effort and they were getting cold.
I'd probably do 4 stars but I passed a Taco Bell on the way and they have a new quesadilla chalupa mash up that I can't stop thinking about.
