  1. Okay, for what it is, where it is. Their space is fancier than I expected it would be, but prices were as-expected: not cheap, and on par with other sushi places in FiDi. If you live in the neighborhood, you probably won't notice the prices anyway.

Their beef negimaki ($15; credit cards accepted) is decent, but won't be winning any awards. In case you don't know, beef negimaki is beeeeeef, wrapped up in scallions, in a teriyaki sauce. A bottle of sake helped immensely[1].

Their house spicy soup made me cough (in a good way), and there was a healthy amount of seafood in it, which made it actually worth the price of admission.

[1] In case you care, I also added soy sauce and wasabi to my dish after eating a few pieces unadorned. But that's only because I like soy sauce and wasabi.

  2. Went here for dinner service, because we were pressed for time….. This place is a little under mediocre…. but if you want something quick & convenient downtown, this place is OK to check out…as long as you set the expectation that it is not great sushi.  Certain appetizers are good, so long as you know which ones to try & order.  Luckily, my roommate did all the leg work, so it didn't turn out to be such a huge disappointment.

The service was even worse than the food. We practically had to try to wave her down for attention.  There were only a few tables full… it was not that busy, so really, no excuses.

Decent is what you can expect leaving…..but expect that I'll never come back!

  3. So this place also is the home of Sushi a la Kawa, which is a take out only sushi joint that just moved in from down the block. Its all the same kitchen, same staff and same sushi chefs, so I'm not sure why they don't call it all one name.

I like it here for what it is. It's quick, it's cheap, it has all the fixin's of being awesome, but somehow, is lacking. I don't know, maybe I have always had really excellent sushi. This place is totally decent for lunch, $9 for two sushi rolls and a soup or salad. The fish is always relatively fresh, which I know sounds sketchy, but isn't. It tastes good and tastes fresh, so I eat here.

You can walk in and place an order right at the counter and take it to go within 5 minutes, which is convenient. I have only sat down for lunch here once, but it was pretty fast as well.

I took away two stars because the service is so horrific. The girl behind the counter who takes orders is so short with you, I always feel like I am bothering her when I place my order. The servers are no better. They look at you with disdain when you walk in. I had to practically beg for the check and constantly ask anyone who was walking by for more water.

They were so inattentive, it was really a stressful meal. And the worst part was, it was so empty it was just us and one other table. People were literally standing around while we just sat there like fools waiting for our check. Terrible experience service-wise.

Now I stick to their take out, its easier and you only have to deal with the snotty cash register girl for a moment or two.

  4. A conveniently located sushi restaurant for a sit-down lunch in the heart of the Financial District. Quite a number of tables are packed into this modest space creating a bustling and loud eatery. Wait time during lunch hours tends to vary, but a table for two is usually available without a wait.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree with other Yelpers in that prices tend to be quite high. A lunch special of 3 maki rolls for $13 isn't an attractive offer, when better tasting rolls are available in other sushi places promoting a deal of 3 rolls for $10. The food itself wasn't bad as the rolls were made with less rice and more fish than other typical sushi takeout places.

Overall, the experience is nothing memorable but it is sufficient to satisfy a sushi craving with convenience being a factor. On the other hand, lunch prices do leave something to be desired.
