Old Homestead Steak House
“In my opinion, this place was better than the much-hyped Peter Luger and most of the other steakhouses I visited.”
“A friend and I shared a 24 oz. bone in ribsteak, grilled lobster tail, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and a bottle of Napa Valley Merlot.”
“I highly recommend the rock shrimp tempura, Kobe meatball, homestead chopped salad and the filet mignon wrapped in bacon with bordelaise sauce.”

Where my non-english speaker parents had absolutely no problem communicating, AMAZING!
Miss the nostalgic and homey vibe, have to go back!
Some friends picked this place with no clue. They were looking for something good but not expensive. Too bad it's very expensive!
We tried the burgers, they were tasty, good. The service was ok, not bad, not amazing. So at the end, you feel that you paid too much despite the quality.
One of the better steakhouses in NY, in my opinion. Service is on point. Steaks are excellent. I've been here a few times now and never had a bad experience. Pricey but good!
Very spacious- great for a birthday celebration or a date night.
The Mac and cheese here is to DIE for, seriously it was so great I can't wait to go back. They have a variety of steal to choose from, I friend and I got the Filet mignon…. mouth watering!
The service was great and so were the drinks. The chocolate/vanilla sundae was also great. Can't wait to return!!!
Everything here is delicious. I had the salmon, which was moist and tender with an interesting blend of peppers, mushroom, and fennel. I also got to taste the delectable filet mignon, surf & turf (steak &scallops), branzino, and fried calamari. All were excellent choices.
The set up is so homey it feels like you are in an all-American family room from the 1960's. The couches on the booths feel so pleasant they must be from Ethan Allen.
Came for a Sunday night dinner. Goodbye to the fifth star because the service was exceptionally slow. The staff is friendly and accommodating but so slow moving. You've been warned..
I have very mixed feelings about my latest visit to Old Homestead.
We were planning to spend the afternoon in the Meatpacking District and wanted to find a good place to eat that wasn't too expensive. I noticed on the Old Homestead website that they had a special, $19 for a caesar salad, filet mignon and truffle fries. I thought, great! Perfect for an early dinner with the family!
We arrived at the restaurant at 4:00pm. When the waiter came to take our order, I requested 3 of the filet mignon special. I was abruptly told that this deal was only good until 4pm (it was 4:06 pm). I told the waiter that we arrived at 4:00 pm. No dice, he wasn't budging – something about the computers not accepting the order.
We ordered:
– 24 ounce rib steak – very good
– Parmesan bread – tasty
– Sautéed brocoli – very good
At the end of the meal, I pulled up the advertisement for the special on my phone and showed the waiter. I told him there was no indication of a time window for this deal and they should update the web page. He nodded.
I am not taking any stars off my review because the food and service was very good with the exception of the situation with the deal.
That being said, we didn't leave feeling good about our experience at Old Homestead.
Promoting itself as New York's oldest steakhouse, the Old Homestead in Manhattan's Meatpacking District is an institution. It still pack diners in after nearly 150 years. And the food is good – of course steaks in their many varieties are what is really being judged here. I recently enjoyed a delicious Filet Mignon slider at the Old Homestead. A Caesar salad and French fries accompanied. The waitress working the front tables near the bar was extremely friendly and efficient. If you want to try one of New York City's famous steak houses, the Old Homestead is a good place to begin!
I have only eaten here once and that's partially due to an underwhelming experience. The restaurant felt like an old fashioned NYC steakhouse but the service wasn't so great. The steak was good but definitely not worth the price. The steak wasn't cooked to the requested temperature and then was over cooked after sending it back. For the same price I'm almost certain you could get a better meal at Luger's.
