Old Traditional Polish Cuisine
“So if that's not a big enough endorsement for you, read on:
The kielbasa was cooked perfectly.”
“Pierogi
-Meat: the meat is dryer but it has a nice zing to it and the buttery/oily outside of the pierogi makes it smoother.”

A bit on the pricey end for a food truck (~$11), but the sausage was truly delicious, perhaps one of the best I've ever had. The combo, which includes the sausage, pierogies, and some bread, was a huge and very hearty serving for lunch. I was overall very satisfied with the meal and the friendly service, but I was also in a huge food coma after as I can't handle eating this much meat at once.
If a year ago, I took a survey of 100 people working in SoHo, asking them what they thought was missing from the neighborhood lunch scene, I can be reasonably confident that no one would have answered "Polish food truck." And yet, several days a week there is now the option to have of the world's heaviest cuisines sandwiched between four hour shifts on a desk. Presumably the rates of cardiac distress in the area are on already on the rise.
I don't work in this neighborhood, but I took advantage of a recent meeting in the area to check this out. I went with a classic, the meat perogie, and squatted on a Subway handicap ramp (benches are in short supply this close to the Holland Tunnel).
I wasn't a fan. This is a pretty serious caloric commitment, and these half-moons of dough make precious little concession to balancing the flavor. There's no sour cream offered with the menu (although this could be available, I forgot to ask) or any kind of sweet. Without it (and the fact that there's some sort of cooking/recooking thing going on so these can be available on demand) you are really are left with an overly large and under seasoned dumpling.
I realize my Polish/Ukrainian ancestors won't be happy hearing this, but there are great ways to make this cuisine. Perhaps a food cart isn't one of them.
I've always seen pierogis being made but never tried it. When I saw this food truck I was eager to try it! I ordered the meat combo. The wait was not bad at all even though I went during the lunch peak on a Friday. The meat combo comes with a few meat ones, cheese, and spinach. I would like to think that pierogis are the equivalent to dumplings in the chinese culture so I had to get used to how minced the meat was. The cheese is probably my other favorite. It wasn't too strong or packed with cheese. The spinach is ok for me. Next time I want to try the kielbasa but when I need another pierogi fix, I'll be on the look out for the truck!
A polish food truck, sure why not. The menu offers a variety of pierogi and some kielbasa. The 'lite' plate was by no means light. A large link of kielbasa served with potato and cheese pierogi and rye bread. It is a hearty meal that taste great. The kielbasa had some great flavor and was grilled just right. The pierogi were light and scrumptious.
A great option forthe not so usual lunch.
I tried this place for lunch when I used to work around grand central terminal on a recommendation from my Polish coworker! If someone Polish recommends it…you know it's worth the try. I got the meat lover's and it was yummy!!! The kielbasa is so juicy yet crispy on the outside. I must say it is a satisfying lunch. I was sad though that they didn't have the polish donuts when I went.
Try it at least once…I mean where else are you going to find a Polish food truck?!
That's a Big Kielbasa
Food: 3.75 Stars
The kielbasa is the star of the meal. The best way to explain it is crisp and flavorful. The first bite is a solid snap of the skin as your teeth break through it, exactly how hotdogs/sausage are meant to be. The mustard provided is a perfect pairing. You receive a slice of bread to go with your meal (meh).
I was lucky to arrive at the tail-end of the lunch rush and be provided with the largest kielbasa imaginable. It barely fit in the container.
The dryness and lack of flavor from the meat pierogi's makes me wonder if they are freshly made, frozen, or a combination of both. There is even a possibility that I received a batch made on an off day.
Cheese Pierogi's will be next on my list to try.
Service/Speed: 4.25 Stars
The service was very friendly and the gentleman taking orders was very generous. Being the tail-end of the lunch rush he asked me if I was hungry. My answer "hungry enough" was good enough to justify a giant kielbasa. I know it's probably a one-time event, but it's nice to get something a little extra. Hopefully the service I was provided with is a normal occurrence. I get the feeling it is.
I received my food within 10 minutes of ordering (probably closer to 5 minutes). I waited less than 5 minutes on line to order my food. Typically it looks around 10-15 minutes during the lunch rush, depending on the day.
Overall: 3.75 Stars
The service and speed were very good and the kielbasa was great, but on the overall the food was a little lacking.
The kielbasa is the difference between a 3 and a 4 star rating.
The pierogi's are lacking in texture and the overall flavor left something to be desired, especially being about half the menu.
I do recommend trying this Polish food truck out for 3 reasons:
1) The Kielbasa is amazing
2) There are very few Polish restaurants anywhere in Manhattan (let alone food trucks/carts)
3) The service is friendly and helpful
Next time I feel like Polish food I will be having the Kielbasa with cheese pierogi's. Hopefully they will be better than the meat variety
Their pierogis are excellent. I'm not a big fan of food trucks on the whole but these are terrific.
Happy Fat Thursday!
I was dying to get some of those scrumptious Paczki but some asshole bought 180 of them! 180?! Why?
I waited 30 minutes for the next shipment of them Paczki and then thought maybe they weren't worth it.
I did have some amazingly delicious cheese & potato perogies while I was waiting.
Mmmmm…
