As always, great! They had a duo taking requests to play any songs (on a Tuesday night) and they were awesome!
Just another reason to check out this gem that is, somehow, never crowded but a FiDi staple.
The bartenders and servers were friendly and personable. The sweet potato fries were absolute perfection…I was SO tempted to order a second round! I got the chicken avocado quesadilla, which was probably the best quesadilla I've ever had. My mom got the salmon and it was really nicely done, and I'm not big into fish. This is definitely an awesome find in FiDi! I'll be back for happy hour and another dinner 🙂
Nice place. Came for a Friday night bite and drinks was not disappointed got exactly what I thought I should get from a pub like this. Friendly servers, we ordered the 4 appetizer sampler to share and some drinks. When the waitress saw
It was a tight squeeze on our two top she moved us over to a four seater for more space. Average drinks, we caught the tail end of happy hour so nothing was too strong. I liked the music selection up until a live band came in. Didn't love that but is still go back again, hopefully they won't be there!
Good atmosphere and clean restaurant. The restroom was so clean and bright. I really appreciated that!
Oh, Open Door. Years ago I used to come here after work once in a blue moon with back in the day when we used to have more of a support staff at my job. Great place to unwind. Great place to take advantage of a 2 for 1 deal on martinis, wine, and beer until 7pm. Which they almost got rid of a few years back due to Wall Street boys getting stupid drunk crazy off of girly martinis. That's legit what the bartender told me when I came in with a girlfriend from out of town. But she still let us embark on the 2 for 1ers because she had failed to erase it off of their specials chalkboard.
Fast forward to a few months ago, I came back with my old roommate after a very lack-luster experience at the Dead Rabbit several blocks away. We were still on a mission for another beverage and some food. It worked out perfectly because we arrived at literally 6:55 and ordered a carafe of wine. They never got rid of the deal. SMART CHOICE. Then we split an order of mozzarella bite triangles and the calamari. The mozzarella was better. The calamari was cooked well but came with sauce (Buffalo and Wasabi aioli) that wasn't approved by my friend. I thought it tasted like spicy mayo and a spicy asian soy ginger sauce but not everyone can handle the heat and she just really wanted more marinara. She had also ordered a slice of the cherry cheesecake. I tried a bite and it was decent but I wouldn't come in here to order desert specifically.
I have heard things of wonder and magic about their truffle bleu cheese fries and that they have led to o faces but never happened to try them and my old roommate made a scrunched up face over bleu cheese on fries. Also, they have a selection of mac and cheese that sound equally drool worthy: gruyere, bacon and gruyere, gruyere and shrimp, truffle, and lobster mac with you guessed it, the king of cheeses – gruyere!
One of the more solid places to go for happy hour in this part of town. I try to avoid Stone Street as much as possible. Their draft beer selection is pretty decent. It's not out of this world. You will see the usual stand-bys but then 5-6 more unique ales on tap. Their martinis from what I remember will eff you up. Two for ones should always be a thing in the financial district.

Four Stars
The Open Door is a cool place to hang out. The high ceilings, extensive bar, and delicious food made me a happy camper on this lovely Saturday afternoon. I sat at the bar and the bartender AC was quite friendly and helpful. I decided on the usual Steak and Eggs. The Hanger Steak was a good size and really thick making the temperature a perfect medium rare. The meat was flavorful, bloody, and quite tender. The two over-easy eggs were some of the best eggs that I have had. The golden yolk melted when pierced but the whites were not overcooked and rubbery like so many other places. The Home Fry Potatoes with Sun dried Tomatoes were good but had a bit of strange flavoring. The House-made Biscuit was fluffy, dense, with a nice bit of salt to go with the overall sweetness. The Fruit Cup was nice addition. I only ate the pineapple and left the honey dew and cantaloupe. Overall, I enjoyed eating here.
I came here at 6pm on a Wednesday for happy hour. The space is fairly large and unlike most of the other bars in the area, it was not too crowded for happy hour. Without any prior reservation, we were able to get a table for 8 near the bar.
The happy hour is an awesome deal. For $10, you can get a carafe of wine (about 2 full glasses), and you can choose between a menu of 4 reds and 4 whites. My friend and I stuck with the Malbec, which was an awesome choice.
The food though was not very impressive. The fried triangle cheese was basically an inferior and flavorless version of a mozarella stick. The calamari was average, nothing memorable. The hummus was…hummus, nothing too different from what you can pick up at the grocery store. Finally, the truffle fries were overpowered by the blue cheese and diced tomatoes and thus lacked any truffle flavor. (I recommend walking over to The Dead Rabbit for a much better version.)
I'd love to come back here for the happy hour! But I'd hold off on the food.
Was charged extra for requesting BBQ sauce BC didn't want ketchup. Questioned waiter. Waiter was unaplogetic, said it was stated on the menu. So left a tip by not tipping.
I've noticed after trying a bunch of gastropub/sit-down restaurants in the FiDi area that they all have this habit of putting me into a food coma. Especially after lunch. Open Door was no exception. BUT-it gets one extra star because I really liked the crab cake sliders. Every mouthful actually tasted like real crab, which is very refreshing because many crab cakes that I've had have been overpowered by the very mundane and singular taste of-you guessed it-fried.
I also tried the tuna nachos and sweet potato fries. Not a fan of the latter. The texture of the chips were somewhere in between crunch and wispy, which I thought was a bit strange. I liked the tuna but the cheese was pretty thick and I felt like the entire thing lacked flavor. Also filled me up way too much before my main course. The sweet potato fries were great though-I really liked the balance of sweet and salty.
Service was average and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. A good lunch spot if you order the right things, have some time to spare and can afford to spend the rest of your afternoon battling slider-induced exhaustion.
