Oshima Japanese and Tex-Mex Express
“Most random combination ever, but the Mexican food is top notch, and they are very quick with their deliveries.”
“In this Irish neighborhood they are the only representatives of these two cuisines, so being bored of always ordering Shepherds Pie or Fish & Chips I went for it.”
“Eel avocado is superb, salmon is out of this world.”

2 STARS – due to WTF? customer service!
The Tex-Mex experience:
I'm torn… At first, I was teetering on a 4 STAR review because I felt pretty impressed with the food. But after several days of thinking on it, I am downgrading & here's the reason…
I called in the order to pickup. We ordered several items & the girl gave me the total BEFORE hanging up the phone (note the emphasis on BEFORE). When I arrived to pickup, the food was bagged & waiting. I pulled out my money & handed the girl $20 (total was $17.83). The girl gave me back 2 singles & then asked "is it ok if I don't give you the 17 cents? I don't have any change."… WHAT?!!!? – which is exactly what I asked! Let me get this straight now… I AM THE CUSTOMER!!! I just ordered food from your restaurant & I'm paying for that food! I DON'T take the loss if you don't have the change! Here's the part that really pisses me off even more as I've been thinking on it. The girl told me the total BEFORE I hung up the phone & BEFORE I arrived at the establishment. Why did she not just tell me to bring exact change? I would think she would have some idea beforehand what was going on in the register! UGH!! I'm getting pissed again as I write this because this is NOT good customer service in my opinion. And it wasn't like a penny or two (which is still NOT a good way to build customer relationships)! So for that stupidity, I can only give a 2 STAR rating which is still being generous I think… Oh, so I said "I'll just give you the change & you can give me another dollar". She looked surprised! Heh heh!! Can't make this shit up if I tried 😉
Anyway, food wise, pretty tasty after all that! Tried several things… the enchiladas with chicken were very good. My boyfriend tried the mexican rice with black beans & the chili taco. The taco was pretty flimsy & a little challenging to hold & eat but he said it tasted really good… just a little messy! We also split the Tex-Mex chili nachos which were also good. We ordered to go & it was a good thing I asked for "extra" salsa cause when we got home there were only 2 small salsa's & one sour cream for 4 items. I don't understand why some of these places are so cheap with the sauce… then again, when they don't wanna give you ALL of your change, that should tell ya somethin'! lol
So the takeaway… tasty Tex-Mex that should hit the spot if you're craving it! Just be sure to have EXACT change with you… just incase…
Oshima gives a great variety of Japanese and Tex-Mex cuisine to their menu.
They are opened late till 11:00 pm on Sun-Thurs and Midnight on Saturday.
Their service is excellent, with a friendly girl who always answers the phone. They have a computer system so they never mess up an order.
Their tostada saladas are amazing! Just for about $5 you get a huge salad that comes in a fresh crisp tortilla shell that's about the size of your head with their yummy homemade dressing!
Their sushi is fresh too! Get the sashimi deluxe it's so good and comes delivered so pretty! I also love their tempura udon, it's not over cooked when it comes to your house! And the house special roll is awesome! Huge and delicious!
And if you get one of their menus, it comes with four different types of coupons, so you can save money while eating great food!
My expectations fluctuated WILDLY before I tried this place. I worked in a sushi restaurant for years, and bad sushi just makes my heart so, so sad. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, the fact that the sushi entrees and Tex-Mex menus are virtually separate is very good. I am not a fan of fusion food at the best of times (unless it is executed extremely well) and fusion food from a takeout sushi and Mexican place in the heart of an Irish neighborhood (possibly run by Chinese people?) ALARMED me. No worries, that isn't a problem.
I went with a spicy maki combo, which included a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy California roll. I also ordered a chicken burrito, cause I figured I should go whole hog.
The sushi: I would eat this sushi again. While not mind-blowing, it definitely took care of my sushi craving. The rolls weren't all that crunchy, which made me wonder how long the mix had been sitting for. The spicy mayo was also really spicy–after a few pieces that was all I could really taste. Still, the rolls were put together well and the fish was tasty. I didn't order any sushi or sashimi pieces, but next time I will to better gauge the quality of the fish.
The burrito: I grew up in a place where Mexican food wasn't really a thing (yes, there are places like that) and so for me the burrito was pretty tasty. My boyfriend, the Tex-Mex enthusiast didn't care for the food.
The conclusion: The prices are good, delivery is fast, ingredients seem fresh, and food is generally pretty decent. If you are at all curious, check it out! You will hopefully find something you like. I know I will be back.
