You are not going to come here & have the best meal of your life. VERY MEDIORE.
I was CRAVING steak & potatoes. I saw the picture of the Tuscan steak when I was flipping through the photos on yelp and it looked BOMB.
Spinach was frozen. It had to be. I make fresh spinach sautéed in garlic & oil and it never tastes like that. Steak was EH. FATTY as hell. Potatoes on the other hand were great – but how can you really screw up a potato? I ate half and the other half for lunch today, so it wasn't inedible, I just would not return to this place for the food. Maybe i'll give brunch a shot?
I also tried my girlfriends burger – it was good, but under seasoned. I also had to put salt and pepper on my food. COMMON CHEF – that is like the first rule….in life.
I've since warmed more to Ottomanelli, a reliable and unpretentious neighborhood spot. The burgers are always tasty, and I recently ventured to try a pasta dish (spaghetti fra diavolo, w/ seafood) and it was delicious.
Got a great burger takeout from here…both the burger and fries were delicious 🙂 haven't eaten AT the restaurant yet but from what I saw when I picked up my food, it's adorable. Kind of romantic because it's small and has low lighting. Seems to get an older crowd. Good menu!
I had heard the burgers from here were very good. After trying one of their steak burgers, I can honestly say that I've had better. Their burgers are made from high quality ground meat, but it was a little dry, not that juicy, and it seemed too small to be a half pound burger as advertised. Their burgers also come on a thicker brioche bun, so the bread is more prominent in the taste.
Old school classic New York spot. You may have heard of the name from it being a long time local butcher but the food here is fresh and that same quality as what you would expect. It's a casual date spot, not too fancy but hits the spot. It's also never too busy so a great place for a larger group as well. You can make a reservation for the larger parties and they are accommodating and friendly if the number changes when you arrive.
The prices are very reasonable especially for the area. The quality of the burger cooked perfectly to your liking, it is quite a treat. The pasta is also done nicely here with your classic red sauce or my favorite linguine with clam sauce. The food is hearty and classic. This is the New York of yesterday.
I like Ottomanelli. I wouldn't think of a restaurant like this when I am craving a burger but they do a really, really good bacon-cheeseburger here with yummy waffle fries. I've had a few of the pasta dishes and all were quite good. They have a chocolate cake that is really special.
Service has always been good. The only negative I can think of is the space. It is really, really small in there. If you are a party of two, get there early and try for one of the high-tops by the window. Other than that you will be elbow to elbow everywhere else. I am not sure I would dine here on a weekend after 7 as I would imagine it is bedlam.
In-restaurant experience: ok. The burger is solid and I've heard other menu items are decent as well.
Ordering: Don't. I ordered a simple Caesar salad from here. I was craving one in a bad way. Seamless states that there is parmesan cheese and croutons – perfect. The salad comes and it's just the lettuce and dressing on the side. $10 later, I could've walked to the Gristedes downstairs, bought a Dole pack for $5 and called it a night. False advertising.
Theres a reason why I keep coming back here for Sunday brunch, could it be the service or the $12.95 brunch pricing. Well I returned and my server Carlos who was my last server didn't disappoint again. This time I was in the mode for steak on the brunch list. Although my condition hinders me from dealing with steak (broken wrist) I was craving thy steak. So I ordered the grilled hanger with over easy eggs. Aside from the unlimited refill I get for coffee and peace and quiet here. Once the meal arrived, it was go time. The dilemma presented itself on whether or not I could cut this thing with one hand, nevertheless I tried anyways. It was a major failure LOL I proceeded to eat the side home fries and eggs which was pretty ok. Round 2 steak, I tried to cut with my right hand although I usually cut with my left (broken side) it was useless. As I struggled for about 20 mins, I was only able to eat one piece. I tried and tried again, curse you wrist and cast let me eat my steak!!!! I attempted to cut to the point where my fork feel. Lucky enough it feel on my left side yipeee -__- the hostess picked it for me and did me a solid by having the cool cut it up for me. When it came back in cubes, a couple if bites and the medium well steak was tender and delicious. Steak heaven for me, no need for any sauce or ketchup to enhance the taste. It was preciously cooked at right temperature. There is my story of another brunch day here and my battle with the dreaded hanger steak, this time I win mhuhaha. But seriously, you get constant refills of coffee/tea/water, a brunch drink and any of the food items listed for $12.95. Although the restaurant is tiny, it's best to go if it's just you or 3 more companions.
