  1. Outback is one of those places that you need to go with low expectations; I was half expecting that this place would not be too great, then I was moderately surprised.

All their choices of steaks range from $20-$30 dollars, which includes a potato and a side. Portions are on the smaller side -you might still be hungry after dropping $25+ for a dinner meal. Steaks themselves are average at best. So-so flavor. Steaks can be hard to chew if too rare.

Keep in mind 6oz steaks in real life like 2-3 bites, probably like 1/2 the size of a fist. What is this, a restaurant for ANTS?! They do offer complimentary bread and butter. The bread loaf is small though, enough to feed like a hungry baby.

Also, I don't really know what's Australian about this place, except for the titles of the food like "Aussei-tizers" and "Shrimp on the Barbie." To what extent are we as Americans perpetuating false stereotypes of culture and people groups to satisfy our desire for exotic, yet still remaining essentially American food? Have we reduced the dignity of a nation's name to an American appetizer dish? I'm so sorry Australia…

    Anyways, I tried:

    The Bloomin' Burger ($10.99)
I actually avoided all the steak and opted for a burger. It's basically a burger with the fried onions that you get in the "Blooming Onion." Despite from it being lukewarm in temp, the flavors and portions were actually decent! Actually I think portions for their burgers are bigger than if you ordered one of their 6-8oz steak meals. Bread was nice and soft and a good complement to the sizable patty. Would rate it maybe like a 4/5. AGAIN, keep expectations low.

    The Bloomin' Onion ($9.29)
This was larger than I expected. Seasoning for the breading is a little saltier than average, and the sauce in the middle was more "mustardy" than I expected. Overall though, it was decent. You need to eat it hot and fresh though, because it can get cold and unappetizing. $9.29 though for essentially repacked onion rings? hmmmm…

TLDR; Don't eat steak, get a burger. Pay less to get more. You can drop about $15 for a decent meal.

  2. Every year my uncle gives me an Outback gift card for Christmas. I finally came to cash two of them in to have a nice dinner with my husband.

We were very surprised to find the restaurant empty with no line…. it was a Monday night though. No complaints here! The weekends are definitely their busiest days. Expect to wait at least an hour. We asked to sit at a booth by the bar so that my husband could watch the baseball games that were on the TVs at the bar.

Our waitress was super nice, super friendly, and super efficient. We both saw the Victoria's filet mignon and lobster tail special so that is what we both ordered. Each dish comes with two sides of your choice. You can get your filet mignon in either 6 ounces or 10 ounces. I went with the 6 and he went with the 10. And you can't have a steak dinner without a nice glass of red wine I ordered the Apothic which is a blend. I highly recommend it.

I was starving! I couldn't wait any longer to cut into my tender juicy steak. I started eating it the second it hit the table. After taking my pictures for Yelp of course!  Our steaks were cooked perfectly just the way we had ordered it. My steak had so much flavor and my lobster tail was very well seasoned. I love the mashed potatoes at Outback because they are so garlicky. As my second side I ordered grilled onions. They are not on the menu anymore (hasn't been for a while) but they will make it. So if you are a grilled onion lover like me make sure you ask your server. I love the combination of steak and onions.

I looked over at my husband's plate and I noticed that he kept putting this chunk of meat to the side. I then noticed when he finished his whole meal he still had this chunk of meat sitting there on his plate. It wasn't meat after all but a nice chunk of rubbery fat from the steak. We thought filet mignon was supposed to be the leanest cut of meat there is. He ordered the bigger steak of 10 ounces and of course it's more money. We weren't going to pay extra for having that fat which was probably an ounce or two.

When our server asked us how our meal was we raved about it but also mentioned that one steak had too much fat on it. I also mention that I have been going to Outback for a long time and that has never happened to me before. Our server offered to talk to the manager which she did and when she came back they offered us a free dessert.

Honestly I would have preferred some sort of discount or refund of our meal but I am pleased that the manager made an attempt to rectify the situation.

Now let's talk about that dessert!!! It was delicious! The strawberry sauce that they put on top of the cheesecake slice was out of this world. Not super sweet and not super watery. It was a great thick fresh sauce that complemented the creamy cheesecake perfectly.

Overall a good free dinner…..no leftovers!

  3. Me and my family decided to try Outback being that we were given a $50.00 as a Christmas gift.  We were seated immediately upon entering and escorted to a booth.  We felt a little rushed ordering and I felt like the waitress could have explained what the sides were a little more.  She only mentioned certain sides to my husband and when I had looked at the menu I had noticed that there were plenty more.  We both ordered the Victoria filet with the crab cake and choice of two sides.  My husband got a side of broccoli and sweet potato with his.  He states that broccoli tasted fresh and the sweet potato was cooked well.  The two sides I ordered were the garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms.  I liked the garlic mashed potatoes they tasted delicious.  I personally wasn't a fan of the sauteed mushrooms.  They came in what appeared to be an onion soup type liquid and had too many onions for my taste.  They also weren't slice but were small button mushrooms.  The blooming onion appetizer tasted too oily for my taste but my husband liked it like that.
My husband's filet was a little more rare than medium rare but that was fine because he liked it rare.  He stated his steak was really tender and could be cut with a fork.  I had asked for my filet to be well done.  When I first bit into it I heard a crunch in my mouth – I had bit into gristle and that wasn't fun.  One more bite of gristle after that and then it was gristle free after that.  The Old fashioned I had tasted yummy and was made well.  I wish it had more cherries in it as advertised though.  My husband's Sam Adams Winter Lager tasted great.  My daughter liked her cheeseburger which came with fries and a fruit bowl.  The fruit bowl consisted of apples and grapes.  I ordered the oreo ice-cream for her for dessert and of course she ate that all up.  She liked Outback and wishes to go back.  This was fine to try once but I don't think I will be asking to go back anytime soon.

  4. Came here for a group dinner on a Friday night, I tried to make a reservation ahead of time but they said it won't  be necessary. Apparently for all outback locations, the wait times are not supposed to be more than 10 minutes.
This location is awesome because the parking lot is huge in bay terrace. It was very easy to get a table, they had a pitcher of fruity water available while you wait , no putrid smells like my previous review for the Brooklyn location.
Shotout to our waiter Nick,  he was so friendly and he knew the menu like the back of his hand. He had such an amazing memory that he didn't have to write a single thing down, he even remembered to bring my steak sauce.
Outback was not stingy with the bread and butter , they brought plenty for our group of 5 to start off with.
The bloomin onion was decent, a little too oily but the onion pieces were crispy. The quesadillas with chicken , mushroom cheese and honey mustard were AMAZING and a generous portion, everything worked so well together and it was very filling.
The steaks that four people ordered were a little rarer then we had hoped for, I still cant get the hang of their scale but it was seasoned well and the 6 oz was actually filling. My side of salad was mediocre, they were stingy on the dressing but perhaps its better then having soggy salad, it was a filling portion though. I also loved my garlic mashed potatoes, it did not feel like it was heavy or over bearing.
The bloomin burger looked really big and delicious, that's something I would like to try for myself if I return.  Its nice to see that there is so much variety in all locations on the menu despite the label of a steakhouse.
Overall the service was quick, prices were decent, food was filling and the staff was friendly.
Also the bathroom here was very clean with 0 lines, big plus :).
I do question the B grade rating here, that's the only thing that holds me back from giving this location 5 stars.

  5. If you've been to one Outback, you've been to them all. I thoroughly enjoyed dining here with two of my members from work. We decided to have a farewell luncheon.

As per my usual,  I ordered the Tilapia with Pure Lump Crab Meat, a side of Loaded Mashed Potatoes, and Grilled Asparagus. The tilapia was huge but the crab meat was on the small side. As well as the portion of asparagus and potatoes I was served.

I felt the waiter was not on top of his game as far as refills and checking on us was concerned. He came over once and disappeared. Then he reappeared miraculously when it was time to ask for the check. Overall I enjoyed the company and my food.

  6. I like this location a tad better than others — I've come for dinner, and the wait time can be long. Anywhere from 45- 1 hour. They have a small, limited seating area. Because dinner time is prime time, the noise level can be loud, but not in an obnoxious rowdy way, but very lively. Also the TVs around the bar make people get a bit more boisterous depending what team/sport is playing.

My friends and I have always had excellent waiters — super attentive, friendly, personable, chatty — people who never forgot about us, checked in for drink refills, containers/bags, etc.

Coconut shrimps are delicious — flakes of coconut, soft breading, hearty shrimps.

Burgers were juicy, fries were crispy.

  7. This outback steakhouse is located in Bay Terrace in Bayside.  The restaurant shares a big parking lot with many other stores in this strip mall.  However, despite the many other stores, there are many parking spots available.

There was a seasonal item that was amazing called moonshine chicken wings.  When asked if the sauce could be purchased they did say they sold it but it was being sold in takeout containers.  Isn't that a bit odd?  Why not a real plastic or glass container?

The steak here is really okay and sometimes subpar, you hope you get a juicy tender steak when ordering medium in any sort of cut, and sometimes, they provide you with something which is what cardboard would taste like.

The blooming onion is the highlight of my visits here, it is always consistent and with the dipping sauce, you can go home satisfied.  Be mindful that there are a lot of coupons and promotions, so definitely come for a visit during that time.

  8. I came here when My BF and I were craving meat. I forgot there was one around here. This location is tucked away in a corner.

Anyway, I'm pleased with this location because it's never overwhelmingly crowded. I never had to wait too long.  The food is exceptional, and I do come here at least 1x a month.  Depends on my cravings.

While you're looking through the menu, they serve you Pumpernickel bread with whipped butter on the side.

What I ordered in the past:
    –  Blooming Onion – onion is hand-carved, cooked until golden and ready to dip into a spicy signature bloom sauce.

    –  Blue Cheese Wedge Salad

    – Victoria's Filet Mignon with baked potato – you can choose between a 6 oz or an 8 oz.

    – Outback Sirloin – One of the leanest cuts, hearty and full of flavor. You can choose between the 6, 9, or 12 oz.

    – mac and cheese side

    – loaded baked potato

I do recommend coming here. The servers are fast, friendly and attentive 🙂
