  1. Very nice variety of specialty drinks and good food. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They have happy hour on weekdays until 7-8. There was a DJ on Saturday night.

Good place for a date or after work drinks!

  2. Got late night drinks here and sat outside, which is my favorite!!!! I got a greek white wine (Lefkos), my friend got a Greek red wine (Agiorgitiko), and my boyfriend got some girly cocktail with fruit in it (he's straight, I swear!). Our waitress was super fun and friendly. I wish she could stop working and join us. Atmosphere is generally quiet and dark. Good to meet up for one-on-ones.

  3. Ovelia is such an amazing place to have brunch lunch dinner or just a drink and chat. Located on 30th Ave just couple blocks from N Q line or if you are driving, there is bunch of street parking. Good staff great food! Have been here so many times and never was disappointed. You may need to wait a bit if you don't have a reservation. So call in advance!

  4. 3.5 stars. The concept is cool – essentially an upscale Greek steakhouse – but execution is not quite as strong. Pricing is on the higher side which is fine, but we weren't wholly thrilled with our food which made for kind of a bummer. Overall, I would try Ovelia again but would be smarter in my ordering and have slightly lower expectations than I had the first time around.

    Here's the rundown.

    DRINKS:
Cocktails were pretty good and standard for NYC. We enjoyed the Cucumber Rush and Passion de France but not enough to order a second round. Other choices on the menu looked neat, though.

    FOOD:
Feta Cubes are bae. Seriously loved these guys – the sesame/honey flavor and the crispness were wonderful complement to the cheese. I'd consider returning just to order these again.

Kolokithokeftedes (or zuchinni croquettes) were mushy. Pretty disappointing.

I really liked the Saganaki Burger and fries. The portion was massive and I couldn't finish all of it which is fine by me when you're paying $22.

We had high hopes for the Greek Coffee Skirt Steak as it seemed unique and definitely worth ordering. It was far too coffee-fueled however, and there was a strong bitterness that detracted from enjoying a nice steak.

Far too full for dessert, as we often are with starters/large entrees.

    AMBIANCE:
Dece. Like I said, Ovelia tries pretty hard to be a cooler restaurant and the decor is fairly austere (think: a fair amount of metallic and sort of strange artwork involving tools) with low lighting. It's on the trendier side for the neighborhood though, and the bar is nice.

  5. Ovelia is amazing. I've eaten here a few times and have come for happy hour a bunch and I have no complaints.

Food: basically upscale Greek food. But you will still find most of the traditional small plates and entrees.
    – they indicate on the menu what is veg, vegan and gluten free, which is totally helpful and appreciated.
-I've liked basically everything I've eaten here (salad, calamari, spinach pie, dips, octopus, Saganaki, scallops and more.)
-"rock and ribs Wednesday" is this special menu they have every Wednesday that is like barbecue meets Greek food. They do ribs, Mac and cheese, kafteri poppers, biscuits etc. the only thing I've tried from this menu is the buffalo calamari (highly recommend !!!!). Looking forward to trying more from this menu

    Service/ambiance:
-a really nice interior– great for a date or girls night
-service has always been spectacular. Bartenders and servers

Happy hour: love their happy hour because they have until 8pm! Sometimes they have $1 oysters but I'm not sure what night they have it on. They also have great sangria for $6 at happy hour

    Negatives:
-I would suggest to stick to their regular menu/Greek dishes. Ordered a lobster roll from their specials once and it was really disappointing (barley any lobster and no lobster chunks. Lots of fillers like capers that took away any of the lobster flavor)
-they don't offer any pita sandwiches. They have a bunch of meat entrees, but no sandwich versions of the same. This always makes it really expensive.

All in all I think ovelia deserves 5 stars as they offer an expansive menu and is a great place to go out and have a fun and tasty dinner

  6. Came here for brunch with my family. I ordered a bloody mary which was decent. We ordered three spreads as an appetizer and the one that stood out the most was the kafteri. It was different from others I've had because it had jalapeños in it which made it so good. As an entree I ordered the greek salad with grilled chicken which was good but I prefer the beet omelette I've ordered in prior visits.

  7. Came for brunch and got the mimosa and eggs florentine.. For appetizer we got some dips with pita.. Everything was delicious. This place takes your regular brunch items and gives them a greek twist. My eggs florentine came on a bed of spinach pie.. the potatoes that came with it were perfectly cooked and had a crisp to them that I enjoyed very much. Great local spot.

  8. If you ever find yourself in Astoria, Queens on a Sunday morning and need some brunch, then Ovelia is a good choice. My friend picked it out, and I was a little apprehensive since the menu was not what I considered a traditional brunch menu, it had a heavy Greek influence, since it was in fact a Greek restaurant. Go figure! Anyways, I decided to go with the whole wheat tiganites (greek style pancakes). I figured this was my only chance in life to ever order Greek pancakes, so I decided to live a little and I went with it! And boy was I pleased! They were outstanding and absolutely delicious! There were mini sized and dusted with cinnamon, sugar, walnuts, figs, and greek honey! They were a show stopper! Everyone else's dishes were good too! We were celebrating someone's birthday and had brought our own cake. The wait staff were super helpful bringing out the cake for us to sing happy birthday and then taking it back to the kitchen and cutting up slices for us and then bringing it back out. They went above and beyond helping us out! Great place and great time!
