Good sushi – 3.5 stars. My favorites were the black and white roll, house special roll, and dancing salmon roll. I'm more a fan of sashimi, so disappointed but not shocked that there was no selection on the ayce menu. The seaweed salad was good (standard) and shumai miso soup was worth a try- once. Next time I will keep them separate. At 6pm on a Friday night we had the place to ourselves, by 7:30 two other couples were also dining at the intimate restaurant. The waitress was sweet and attentive. I hope this place lasts.
This review is for a la carte… plenty of Yelpers have offered useful reviews about AYCE already, and a la carte experience is pretty similar. Price point is on par with other Japanese restaurants in Bergen County and the fish is pretty good. Not the best I've had, but is decently fresh. It is a VERY small restaurant though with 6-7 tables max (none seating more than 4 people), so I don't know if they can accomodate larger parties like other AYCE sushi joints. I would have no problems going back to eat there again.
Very modern and chic atmosphere in sprit of small size of dining area. Natural stone wall was impressive when I walked in. 5-6 tables for seating, small bar area is all for this sushi restaurant. They do take out as well as " all you can eat" from 5-10pm.
Appetizer is various form salad to tempura. I like avocado tuna salad and shrimp tempura. Rock shrimp was okay, needs more seasoning I thought.
Last few times of visit, fishes were generally fresh. But depend on which day you visit, I noticed some changes on freshness on each fish. Sashimi were good, sushi and rolls were right size without stuffing with lots of rice. My favorite roll was magic roll. I felt all the items in the roll made good balance in a bite. Spicy salmon roll or spicy tuna roll were good but not the best I've ever tasted. Presentation of the food was nice as well.
Service was decent, BYOB is good option but it would be better if server knew how to open the wine bottle. We had to wait for a while to get wine bottle opener, because owner is the one who knows. In spite of we were the only one table there, that was kinda disappointing.
People like me who loves sushi but doesn't like typical buffet setting, this place is the one.
Hope this restaurant will last long. So I can fulfill my sashimi cravings once in a while.
Metered Parking in the street is never a problem.
A brand new gem has opened in Hackensack, and it happens to serve sushi. Oyishi offers quant menu but where it lacks in quantity, they make up for quality.
They also offer an amazing all you can eat deal for $21.99 pp on Mondays where you can order anything and everything from the menu.
Plus the staff are ultra friendly. Try them out. Yums!!!
For a fairly new place, this sushi joint is running smoothly. The owner used to own another Japanese place in the Bronx and his experience is definitely shining through.
The restaurant is small with 4 four seater tables and one 2 seater table. Also, everyone does the AYCE (best value compared to a la carte) which means long dinners and slow turnovers. This was not a problem on a quiet Monday night but I can see a long wait for a Fri or Sat night.
AYCE ($21.99 pp) is based off the a la carte menu and you order with a server who encourages you to order in small batches. Best game plan is to start with a miso and the tuna avocado salad then work through a platter of sashimi and end with a roll or two.
For an AYCE, I found the sashimi very fresh minus the octopus which was hard and frozen. The rolls also done right with more fish than rice. No green tea ice cream here tho 🙁
It's BYOB so bring the sake!
One Friday, my colleague and I opted to order from Oyishi Sushi through GrubHub.
I opted for the Sushi Lunch Special C with the tuna, salmon, and avocado roll along with 3 pcs tuna sushi and 3 pcs salmon sushi for $12. It comes with the choice of a miso soup or bottled water.
Originally, I had also ordered 2 pcs of uni sushi (sea urchin) for $9 but they were out. They promptly called me to apologize and asked if I wanted something else for the same amount. When I informed them to just cancel the uni, they made sure the driver provided me my money back in cash. The woman on the phone was very polite and spoke eloquently, which made the transaction easy and simple.
The driver did arrive promptly and had no difficulty finding the business, which I was thankful for. He also remembered to give me back my cash. He was very nice and I appreciated it.
The sushi seemed very fresh and delicious. I was really happy with my meal. It may not be the best I've had yet but still very good.
My friend ordered the Beef Teriyaki with California Roll Lunch Special also for $12. She loved her food also.
All in all, we were satisfied and our colleagues looked longingly at our lunch as we ate. I will definitely order again from here.
This is nice cozy spot. The service was great but the sushi was mediocre at best. They only have the AYCE for dinner. The lunch special was a fair price at 3 rolls for 14 dollars. Had there sweet heart Roll which cost $15 and it was very disappointing. Don't get me wrong It did not taste bad but it did not taste good either.
Came here for dinner with some friends and had a good experience. You cannot beat the deals.
You can get 2 rolls for $10 or 3 rolls for $14. I started by getting 2 and then upgraded to 3 while I was eating them. The sushi was fresh. The girl server was super helpful and attentive always refilling our water.
BYOB.
The electricity did go out twice while we were there and they apologized constantly. It didn't really effect us. They gave us a whole plate of watermelon to finish our meal.
THey also comped my friend's gyoza – I think b/c they forgot to bring it out as an app, but we didn't even complain and they still comped it.
Its those little things that make me like this place.
It is very small and not much to it, but I did enjoy it! VERY AFFORDABLE
