Immediately upon sitting down we were greeted by the server who gave us hot steamed towels to wash our hands. I couldn't help but put it on my face to wipe off the sweat and oil from the humid weather. (tmi?)
Open on the 4th of july, friendly staff. One thing I noticed right away in their sashimi dishes were the generous slices. Seriously, one slice was equivalent to two pieces. We got tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail and chef's choices, which included a type of white bass and white tuna.
My favorite part of the dish were the salmon and white tuna! I've heard of tuna, which is usually red, but the white tuna was so smooth. Highly recommend anyone visiting to try this.
So 9 years later after acclimating to the nose bleeds seat section of NYC, I venture to say that Palace of Japan is certainly worthy of your culinary interest. This venue was one of the first places we dined at on moving to Riverdale after years of living in the gastronomic expanse of the East Village.
I must have been here on a bad night as I recall being severely disappointed. I then became dejected that we may have moved to an epicurean wasteland but found later this was not exactly the case. There are certainly places to eat well and enjoy in Northern NYC, and this is one of those places.
Great service tasty food.
Good local lunch spot. 12.50 for the lunch special which includes 3 rolls soup and salad. Not usually crowded, good decor and quiet ambiance. Will return
This spot is actually pretty damned good! $9 for the 2 roll lunch special which comes with miso soup and a salad? Word? Sign me up.
Service was on point and super quick. I was impressed.
I will be back.
Great service, food and atmosphere…we had the shumai, Rock shrimp, calamari, shrimp n avocado and Mr. crab roll. For the finale, Saki and green tea tiramisu… Everything was superb !!!
Super convenient location and a sizeable menu. The sushi and sashimi platter for 2 was a goood size with yummy offerings. We called the order in for pick up and it took a little longer than they told us, but it was a Saturday night and the order was pretty large. Wasn't a fan of the steamed veggie gyzoa but the rest was good. A solid choice.
