Palm Restaurant

“And did I mention my very picky 12 year old gluten free daughter ate over 10 oz of filet mignon and the entire table side of mashed potatoes?”

“The Palm in the theater district is our old standby for dinner when we're in the city for a show.”

“Atmosphere is fun and fairly casual (caricatures of celebs, politicians and NY power brokers line the walls).”

  1. Food: I have been to this palm several times and it has been very good every single time. My steak is always cooked to order and anyone I've gone with has always liked their food. Seafood, steaks, chicken, it doesn't matter. Everything is good. The only thing I want to give special attention to is the crab cocktail appetizer with the super hot horseradish. I love horseradish and this stuff is about as insane as it gets. If you like horseradish, this is a must try.  But only use a little for your first bite until you figure out the right amount for you. It will blow your head off if you use too much.

Service: always good. I've gone here with small groups and I've hosted 30 person dinners.

Atmosphere: lively but not too loud where it's bothersome.

  2. This year we celebrated Valentine's Day at Palm and it was a pretty solid meal. We'd been to the TriBeCa location before but this past Saturday was my first experience at the 50th street location. I honestly don't know too much about the franchise itself but as soon as you walk in you notice all the "famous" people painted all over the walls just as the TriBeCa location. It's definitely interesting to scan the walls and admire the art.

We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated promptly upon our arrival. We were offered the 3 course Valentine's Day menu ; however, we already had what we wanted to eat in mind so we ordered our usuals. I ordered the lobster bisque as an appetizer and the salmon for my entree. We also ordered spinach for the table. The lobster bisque was incredible! I could probably eat that all day everyday. They bring out the bowl with just lobster in it; I'm assuming to prove to the customer that there is actually in it. When it arrives at the table then they pour the bisque over the lobster. I highly recommend it. My boyfriend ordered the crab cake and he always talks about how "meaty" it is. He would totally recommend the crab cake. My salmon was okay. I had it broiled. I remember it being better last time. They offer it several ways, maybe I had it prepared another way last time I'm not sure. Next time I'll definitely try something else. However the spinach was delish! My boyfriend loved the veal parmigiana which he's had several times and absolutely loves. For desert I had the key lime pie topped with a blueberry compote which stole the show. For sure the best key lime pie I've ever had!

Overall, the service was attentive and speedy. The ambiance was very casual chic. We will definitely return and I highly recommend Palm to anyone in the area catching  a show on Broadway or simply in the area.

  3. The meal my family and I had at this establishment is one of the best I've had in my 22 years of life. The food was excellent.

    – The filet mignon was divine – cooked exactly how I wanted it.
    – My brother's t-bone, cooked medium was by far the best piece of steak I've ever tried. EVER.
    – The peppercorn sauce complemented both cuts of steak perfectly.
    – We ordered the 3 lb. broiled Nova Scotia lobster as well. I'm allergic to seafood but it would be unfair if I failed to mention how much my parents and brother enjoyed it. I've never felt like I was missing out on anything having never been able to eat seafood but I had some serious FOMO that night… That thing was huge!
    – Now with all this protein that we were consuming, of course we ordered a few side dishes – mashed potatoes, spinach, and asparagus. I didn't know it was possible to perfect vegetables but yes that is what they did…
    – We also ordered the linguine with clam sauce. Not sure why because we already had SO much food but we ended up taking it home and my family ate it the next day. Again, allergic to seafood, but from what I saw it was equally delicious.
    – And then there was dessert… We got the bag of warm doughnuts (topped with cinnamon sugar). This looked and tasted so good we started eating it before I had the chance to take a photo… (extremely rare occurrence)

Overall wonderful experience. Service was excellent of course. I hope I find myself here again.

  4. I am completely aware that this is a steakhouse in midtown but I still feel the prices are a little unreasonable. There is no steak for under $47. And, all of those expensive steaks come with 0 sides. That's right — you can pay $47 for a piece of meat and it will come out with NOTHING else on the plate. I'm not into that.

I had the filet mignon. I asked for it medium rare and it was cooked exactly how I asked for it. We had the potato au gratin which at approximately 2K calories – was as tasty as it should be. Overall, I really thought the food was "good" but when dinner costs $100 a person you want better than good.  Right?

  5. Not for me.
In fairness not aimed at me either, even it had been 5 stars I'd be unlikely to be a regular.

    Ok, here's what I liked.
    Buzzy and atmospheric
Waiters totally on point in terms of fulfilling pre-show schedules.

    Here's what I didn't like.
So so food (not a massive fan of steak anyway but this was far, far from anywhere close to the best I've ever had.
Prices, ok I get it, midtown rents etc etc, but I live in west village and don't normally baulk at NY pricing but this was eye wateringly expensive, for what in truth was an average meal.

    Sorry.

  6. While in New York, I was told the Palm was a place we shouldn't miss. We made a reservation and were seated promptly.

Service was excellent every step of the way. Celebrity caricatures are everywhere and the ambience is nice.

We were given some excellent bread and I could have made a meal out of it. It was piping hot, fresh, and had great flavor and texture. It melted in your mouth.

I had the half chicken parmigiana, the filet mignon, and we shared the au gratin potatoes. My fiancée had the chicken parmigiana and a salad.

The chicken parmigiana was to die for. It is one of their signature dishes and it lived up to my expectations. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It was fork tender and the half was really more than big enough for both of us.

The filet was also cooked perfect and came with some delightful parsley butter that enhanced the natural flavor of the beef.

Her caesar salad was fresh and well balanced. It had just the right amount of dressing and was full of robust flavors.

The au gratin potatoes were cheesy, gooey goodness. The potatoes were tender and the sauce was great.

We had a wonderful experience and can't wait to eat at some of their other locations closer to home.

  7. I have been going to this location since I was a kid. It is my opinion that the best steaks come from the Palm and Peter Lugers.  The wait staff is very friendly and personable. Even the mangers are great. The atmosphere is very intimate and cozy. The bar area is very nice and the drinks are excellent. There wine selection is very nice I recommend the Merlot by Duckhorn it's excellent. There calms casino is excellent as well as there Beacon rapped scallops. I tend to always order the porter house for two rare. It is beyond excellent. The goat cheese smashed potatoes are good as well as there three cheese potatoes.
They are not in the habit of telling me no so there are somethings that are not on the menu that I'm able to get but that's a secret lol. There burgers are also excellent. I used to eat at this location every Friday for lunch and they let me build my own burgers and that made me very happy. There chicken Parm is very good. I would also recommend the aged double cut Porter House cooked rare. That steak was so good it changed my life I'm serious. At a place like this be prepared to spend some money but is is worth every single scent.

All said and done I would most def. recommend this steak house. I like it so much I'm part of there 837club and am working my way up to getting my face on the wall.

  8. I've become less of a fan for the Palm after dining here. Being a member of 837 club is such a waste.

Made reservations here on a Saturday night. They sat us in the back, which we didn't mind since it was a lot quieter and it gave us a chance to talk without the background music blasting.

The waiters here are inattentive. Our server checked up on us only once (to take our order and to ask us how our meal was). The server that was helping the table near us even saw that my water cup was empty, but just walked away… We had to flag someone down to get our check.

    Food:
Chef's Soup of the Day – had rice and meatballs. Good, but salty
    Filet Mignon (14oz)
    Prime New York Strip (18oz)

Out of the two steaks, I preferred the New York Strip here; nicely seasoned and very juicy. The filet Mignon was dry on the outer portion and very rare on the inside.
