  1. Old school Thai food or new Thai generation? That's the choice on the menu, with Thai basil & Pad Thai lumped into old school and a bunch of duck & salmon dishes billed as new gen. Very good food and nearly instant service on a quiet weekday evening, Palm Thai is an a-ok small restaurant.

Our fried-dumpling appetizer was just the right amount of crispy, 6 generous hot tasty lumps plus a side of sweet dipping sauce for $8, recommended.

Entrees weren't as good. Got a pad Thai with chicken, nicely stir-fried meat with a strongly peanut flavored and slightly sweet sauce, plenty of noodles, a reasonable portion for $13 (note no extra charge for shrimp). But our pad Thai had no bean sprouts, no lime wedge, no ground peanuts; IDK? We also split a papaya & crispy red snapper entree, chunks of deep fried fish were served nestled in a fried-to-a-crisp u-shaped fish skeleton complete with head and tail, now that was a presentation I didn't expect lol. Loved the shredded papaya, mango carrot and cabbage on the side. Not cheap at $25, was a bit fisher than I would have preferred, and only barely spicy even tho my dining companion and I asked specifically for solid medium heat.

Vegetarian rating: 4 stars for the excellent variety, which includes a handful of apps and at least six different entrees, mostly tofu with various veggies and spice levels. Does mock duck do it for you? They've got your back 🙂

  2. SO GOOD! Love the pad thai, pad see ew, pad kee mao, and thai salad! The restaurant gets pretty busy at lunch and parking is not the easiest… but it's all worth it because the lunch specials are awesome!

  3. I have been back several times and have been impressed with each dish I have had. The Short Rib Massaman is out of this world! A must try….
    Pad Thai, yummy!

  4. Great little place nicely kept and a tad fancy but not overpriced. It is small though so you're almost sitting with the table next to you but the food is on point. Place is packed on Friday night so it was a great time. BYOb too

    1. Dumplings were okay
    2. Thai rolls are awesome
    3. Pad Thai excellent
    4. Drunken noodles PERFECT

  5. I've had great experiences at Palm Thai.  I am a Thai food fan and appreciate that they cater to traditional Thai foods which is right up my alley.  This place is right in the middle of Madison.  The service has always been friendly and they are quick to make sure everything is taken care of.  The food prepared is prepared well, it is fresh, and the ingredients are of high quality.  Every time I am there I am always pleased with my food and more importantly, everything comes out piping hot – just the way I like it.

  6. This week is the week of 5 stars I guess.

This was one of maybe 3 Thai places in town so I had to try the one rated the highest and it didn't disappoint. I read reviews about the drunken noodles and everyone said get it.

So I got the drunken noodles which was amazing! Everything was cooked and mixed to perfection. The noodles were perfect, the chicken was tender, plenty of bell peppers and onions, etc. I also got the Tom yum lemongrass soup which was equally as flavorful. It definitely hits you with lemongrass which I loved. It was starred as spicy but it wasn't even close. I almost felt like none was added, but it was still good. Finally I got the pepper chicken which was not as good, but I liked the charred flavor.

Overall, delicious flavors but portions were tiny! This is probably the most expensive I've paid for such a small portion in a long time, but I'd still come back for those drunken noodles.

Service was quickly, friendly, and attentive. 2 waitresses/servers, but I came on a Sunday afternoon so there weren't many customers to begin with. It is located off the main street so easy to find.

Can't wait to come back. Again, pricey but good. Averaged $14 for regular entrees. They had seafood dishes that were $22+.
