This is the spot. You want that crazy delicious sandwich or chicken Parmesan? You come here. Fresh baked Italian style bread, amazing pastries and desserts, the lattes are amazing and honestly i haven't had anything bad here.
prices are on the higher side for sandwiches but when you see what they come with, you know where your money goes. come sit for a coffee, have a plate of chicken parmesan with broccoli rabe and some potatoes, finish with a canoli or a tiramisu and an espresso and call it a day.
I initially thought this place was awesome and that their food was on point but on my second visit here, I've come to realize it depends on the day; the food is definitely hit or miss.
First time we went, we ordered a house chicken salad with their balsamic dressing which was fantastic; their house dressing was incredible, made me consider purchasing their take home bottles that they sell; chicken was well cooked and salad was fresh. Wife ordered a chicken parm sandwich, turned out to be pretty decent as well.
A few weeks later on our second visit, we ordered the same salad which was a disaster: salad was all soggy, chicken was way overcooked.. I felt like I was chewing on a sponge. Wife ordered a steak sandwich which turned out to be a beef jerky sandwich; well done would be an understatement. (They didn't even ask how she wanted it cooked).
Third time, they have a lot of desserts; I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took a few friends to get some pastries/cakes.. Everything tastes very artificial and refridgerated.. Tastes Costco bought. Go down the block to the bakery instead.. It's much better.
Overall, I don't know if I'd actually ever go back..
I ate here earlier today and I'm kind of surprised I didn't have a great experience. I've heard good things about Paneantico from others who live in the area but my meal here didn't live up to the hype.
I sat at a table outside and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with mozzerella and portobello mushroom. The sandwich was very good and I liked their balsamic vinegar too.
Here is what I didn't like: My cup of seltzer I ordered was given to me with a long black strand of hair in it. I, of course, could not drink that and asked for a new cup. My mother ordered a cup of hot tea that sat on the table for about 25 minutes until our waitress eventually came around. She never brought over the milk we asked for, so we asked for a new cup of tea since the first one was now ice cold. Everything was incredibly slow. It was about a 20 minute wait for each thing we requested. My sandwich eventually came and was put on the table with no napkins, no balsamic vinegar, and no utensils. I thought she would have at least brought over napkins but unfortunately, she needed to be reminded of that. Our waitress was nice but she seemed inexperienced.
While we sat and waited and waited…a filthy man that looked like he hadn't showered since 1992, sat down at the table next to us. While he sat there, he continued to burp really loud, stare at other people and have an entire conversation with himself. He might have been a customer (he had a cup of coffee in a paper cup) but really, I think the manager should have politely asked him to leave. This was really about his personal hygiene, which was deplorable.
If that wasn't awful enough, two woman stormed out of Paneantico screaming at each other on the corner (next to our table) and almost got into a fist fight. Keepin' it classy right? It was a show for all of 3rd Avenue to see that was chaotic and perhaps entertaining to some passerbys who stopped to watch. This place was like a zoo with no cages and so bad I was thinking, any moment now someone is going to come over and say "you've just been pranked on TV!" But it wasn't a camera prank and I'm not smiling.
We waited another long wait for the check and I was so exhausted by the end of the meal, I just walked inside and left the money on the counter so I could get the hell out of there.
This place sure does make some delicious treats and I have had several items from here over the last few years but never Yelped about it. For the most part its a bakery but you can also get a variety of other great things such as coffee, hot sandwiches and salads. Sadly I was only visiting this place to grab some cookies for a holiday dinner because they have a wide assortment. I settled on a two pound package of assorted cookies and was hit with sticker shock since I have not bought something like this in quite some time. It was almost $30 which I later learned was normal based on some of the cookies in the assortment. Mind you I was not cheaping out on this at all but have never delved into cookies for that price. It probably would have been cheaper for me to bring a big batch of cold cuts to the gathering.
The bottom line is that there is a lot of tasty fare here at Paneantico and everyone visible around me seems to be enjoying themselves whenever I take notice. I want to sit down and enjoy a meal here sometime as having take out stuff is nice but is not the same experience. Of course that being said, you should expect the quality you get to come at a little more cost.
Love their iced coffee here and their bagels are not bad too. I just wish their service was a little more consistent. There are days when you get really quick service but other days, you don't get any. Their coffee bar is kind of cute but makes ordering a little confusing. Apparently you order everything and pay up front by the register and then you go to the coffee bar in the back and tell them what you ordered for drinks. It could be a little more streamlined.
I came in on a Wednesday about 1230 and it was packed, it was the day before thanksgiving so that could be the reason, though anytime I come here there's always a crowd. We came in and were able to grab a table right away even with it being so crowded.
Our waitress came over and took our drink orders quickly, but took a while to come back with our two iced coffees. Once she did we orders our meals, I got the grilled chicken house salad, and the person I was with ordered a hot soppressata with egg plant sandwich. The food was absolutely delicious. I love that salad and can eat it everyday, and the sandwich was equally as good. They have the best brick oven sandwich bread here. We also ordered a rice ball to split which was amazing. I was happy because our meals did come out relatively quickly for how busy it was.
The service was good and the atmosphere is fun, I already can't wait to go back!
Little peace of heaven
I used to live on Staten Island and royal crown was my favorite casual place to grab a nice delicious salad, some Italian hero, or a nice coffee and pastry. They had outdoor seating and indoor and I loved going with my friends for lunch. When I moved to Brooklyn I realized this is the same place and same owners and it's exactly the same menu!
I was so happy to have this place in the borough
It's easy, delicious and consistently awesome
The prices are good too
Always a win when in the mood for some Italiano
Brunch/lunch recommended -casual
Awesome sandwiches, rice balls and breads- especially the chocolate bread. I can't say I'm a fan of their cakes/cookies or of their setup. There's always an extremely long line and it's super disorganized. If you're ordering something that takes more than 2 minutes to prepare, there's no place for you to stand and wait, you might as well wait outside. Their customer service isn't the best either, neither are some of assbags that come in this place. After standing in line for almost 10 minutes, the girl looks right at me and says "can I help you"- I start to ask her if she had plain rice balls and some douchebag walks in and asks the girl if he could pay for his order…wait for it….wait for it….she completely ignored me and took care of him. If I wasn't 8 months pregnant and craving their rice balls, I would have told her and Mr. Douchebag they were rude assholes and walked out. Sorry not sorry :/ maybe some of your staff should go through some rigorous customer service training.
