This place is the absolute worst. The bartender lost my debit card behind the bar somewhere. I was visibly annoyed and he suggested that I just "cancel the card". I'm sorry, what? Why should I have to inconvenience myself because the bartender is irresponsible? After twenty minutes of searching he finally found it but was arguing with me and even cursed at me throughout the the process. A manager came out but didn't seem to be concerned that his employee had just yelled at me. Stay far away.
BRUNCH review:
Happened upon Pangea for a Sunday brunch this past weekend. Most dishes are in the $10 – $12 range with the option to add Mimosa or Mary for $4. If you choose coffee, that costs THREE dollars. So really, just get the cocktail. Initial thoughts when the food came out was that the portions were small. I had the guac & shrimp omelette. The accompanying roasted potatoes were kind of flavorless. Overall, considering price, portion, and taste: mediocre. However, I did enjoy sitting outside 🙂 Service was fine.
After thoughts: I should have gotten the burger. DAMNIT, I always should get the burger.
After after thoughts: Pangea didn't really stand out for me, but hey, maybe I'll give it a shot for dinner. There's always a next meal.
A friend and I went here after seeing a movie across from it. We saw that there was a cabaret show and thought that would be fun. The cabaret is in the back of the restaurant. Tables are close together and it's a small place but the show was fun. The audience was fun as well. The waiter asked to take our order before the show started and no problem. After receiving our meal, he never checked back. While I understand not wanting to take away from the performance, it would have been nice to get another drink. After the meal he brought the check with no chance to get a dessert. I had the scallops which were ok. They have a special menu for the performance venue that is different from the main restaurant. I noticed that some people had something that was not on the menu we were given, however. There was a $20/per person "music charge" and there is a $20.00 minimum on food and drink. It was a fun atmosphere.
When I was hankering for a place to chill for hours and eat some comforting food in an unpretentious atmosphere with friends who I rarely see, and drink to the point of run-on sentences, Pangea was the perfect suggestion. We were probably a little loud for the small groups that were there, but the staff didn't budge or pressure us to get out. They even let me charge my cell phone while we ate.
Food pricing was phenomenal at $8 – 21 for apps and entrees and food style ranged from French to Far East. I was cold from the rain and really needed a hearty satisfying pasta dish. Before me was the ground lamb ragu on penne option for $14. Sold. It was flavorful and well balanced, but because I love pasta so much, there's not much that would have made this dish better. Dave's chicken paillard was extremely flat, perhaps too flat. But Zach's steak frites were succulent!
Aside from the laid back atmosphere, this restaurant's menu (especially pricing) screamed Silvertone (for those of you who know Boston). I'm not sure I would suggest you to run to Pangea for dinner, but it really was the perfect suggestion for a relaxed, tasty, and affordable meal.
Pangea is one of those places I've walked by for years and I'm so glad I finally made my way here to eat.
First of all, this is a great place for a date. I came here with my boyfriend of 4+years and the couple next to us seemed to be on a 1st date. Love the moody lighting and twinkly lights in the back room. The food is also fabulous- I had the penne with roasted butternut squash and it was the best thing I've eaten in weeks.
5 stars.
Went here with some friends for Saturday brunch. I was surprised by how EMPTY it was. It was somewhat unsettling, especially because we thought brunch was so good. Lots of egg options. Prices were average – though they did not include a drink, which was sad. Our server was nice. Good times had by all.
The food here was pretty good, but the portions were small. It wasn't too pricey and it definitely lined up with the portions, but I was still pretty hungry in the end. Service was good, nothing to really complain about, nothing to really rave about.
I wouldn't be opposed to come back, but I definitely wouldn't come on an empty stomach. One of those places that are good to try once.
Came here for dinner with out of town family. The restaurant was pretty empty and quiet but it was a recommended joint. Overall I would say the appetizers that I tried were meh but their entrees were very good.
I had the following apps:
saladcrocchette di baccalasautéed- Meh, there was 5 it could have been potatoes i wouldn't have tasted the difference
Fried Calamari was bland, and rubbery
Chicken Liver Crostini – was rich probably the better one that I had
Entree – Coq Au Vin – Stewed chicken with Merlot, mushrooms, pearl onions, mashed potatoes. It was very good, there was a combination of 5 spices anise and other herbs. The pearl onions and red wine gave it a hearty taste and sauce which I mixed with the mashed potatoes. If I'm salivating while writing I would say its a plus
Steak Frites, flank stake was tender, cooked medium rare
Salmon was fresh and not over cooked.
Overall the service was good, and the entrees were great.
If It wasn't for the forgettable apps and the weak sazurac it I would have given it a 4.
