I've seen this place many times driving through 116th st. so decided to try it out.
I thought my order was pricey ( $30 )for two gyros and a grill cheese especially since the meats were frozen. I saw the cook take it out the freezer and cut the patties with a knife. I dislike paying a lot for food that isn't fresh or food that's frozen…period!! The gyros were good however the grill cheese had so much cheese and butter it screamed heartattacked.
Other words, I wont be coming back.
First time visit and would definitely come back! Delicious coffee. Blueberry pancakes were stuffed with berries – nice fluffy buttermilk batter. Companion had huge omelette – and with a turnover to go; all under $22! Mike, the owner, is very sweet, gracious and welcoming. ( just realized we forgot to leave a tip! We'll be back tomorrow Mike! So sorry. )
Anyway, check it out for a nice respite from noisy diners.
Popped in here for breakfast after biking from Williamsburg. Really solid meal, good coffee, and nice conversation with Mike.
There is so much wrong here I don't even know where to start. Came here with my fiance for a quick lunch and cappacino. Surprised to find out that at a "cafe" they don't do cappacinos because the espresso machine is broken.
Great, I'll get over that but now we are asking for suggestions but the waitress doesn't even know the menu. Hm alright so we make a safe decision on stuff we already know about. We order the French onion soup to start and come to find out they don't use mozzarella cheese or much bread at all. So the taste of a tiny bit of Swiss cheese floating on broth and onions in the center of a cereal bowl will have to do. The waiter didn't offer us drinks or bring us water, minor correction to help wash this down.
Now comes the main course and it was atrocious. This is the first chicken quesadilla I never finished a piece from. The first bite was nauseating as it's saturated in grease served with waterlogged fries. My dates meal was tolerable at best being their "special", never finished half of it. Time to get this horror wrapped up.
I request my meal to be removed and the waitress gives me a shpeal to come back and talk to the boss when he's here on another day. Ok no problem I will never be back here even to collect my 12$ refund. Not sure how this place is in business as I over heard 2 other complaining tables while seated. Beware folks.
Small little joint nestled on the strip on 116th street on Rockaway beach. It serves a host of breakfast and cafe type meals…yes, pan inis are one of them which I would hope for according to the name of this place…but no I didn't try one.
I love breakfast, and I went twice in one week to give this place a fair shot.
I won't even talk about parking because like everything else on the strip, it's metered parking except Sunday and of course after 7pm another day (which I refuse to pay for a park at Walbaums…I don't mind the walk :0)
The place looks nicer from the outside than the inside to be quite honest. The inside is small with handful of seating. The kitchen is like right there for those of you who enjoy gawking at the chefs while they prepare your meal.
The staff is friendly, especially the owner is a sweetheart.
First time around I ordered the Salmon benedict, which was a huge portion. It was pretty good, it came with home fries which are greasy and delicious. The salmon was plentiful, my only gripe was the massive old of hollandaise sauce which was a bit too acidic for my taste so I had to scrap a glop off.
Second time around, I went with my friend, she ordered the vegetable fritatta and I order poached eggs over marinara home fries, which according to her is a middle eastern thing. I was apprehensive at first but it was actually pretty good, the eggs though I could have done without…didn't seem to go together. She really liked the panini fritatta.
Overall, for the area it's okay. The prices are steep for the amount of food you get but it's nothing that is life altering food wise.
I'm glad I found a place to eat on Xmas day. Mike still has the best food in Rockaway. I come here as often as I can.
Unassuming store front, but freshly prepared food, served with attention and care. A pleasant surprise on the way to the beach.
The kids got kid food, adults got adult food, and everyone was happy!
A must everytime I come to the beach. Mike and the great staff make my summer l! Delicious food and so many options. Come here if you visit Rockaway Beach!
