Pantano used to be the hot spot back in the day for sandwiches and salads. Quality has gone way down. Everything tastes bland or frozen. Prices have gone up and the quality of the food does not support the prices.
I've been eating at pantanos for years. I agree with others in that its pretty expensive. The food is okay – I've found that there are better delis in the area for cheaper. The only reason I come back is for their chicken teriyaki and rice wrap. It's really good. However, do be warned it's not the "teriyaki" that you'd expect. I guess you can say its an Americanized version and not saucy – its good regardless – I've been getting it since high school and it never disappoints.
I used to live in Hewlett and I still work there. I've eaten at this place a few times but I never really liked it that much. I used to have to stop in there every few weeks and I felt like I should get something so I would just stick to the coffee or an egg and cheese sandwich for safety. They have a huge selection but no specialty, I've tried a few things to give them a fair shot from pizza to burritos and I was never pleased with what they gave me. If you want pizza (the pizza place is a few stores away and much better) if you want burritos (Ay! Caramba just opened a few stores away), if you want a deli style breakfast there's dunkin donuts and some various bagel stores around, if you wish for a sandwich (a really BIG and good sandwich) one of my friends suggested Tamborino's in Cedarhurst so you can basically find anything they have to offer and get better quality at other businesses. Their prices are subject to change depending on which employee you are dealing with and not listed on their menu either.
I do take out here all the time. I get the Frank Sinatra wrap which is grill chicken and mozzarella. My family loves all the wraps they get.
Delivery service is good and very prompt. this was a plus.
I like the menu. You can pretty much get anything for anyone regardless of what you are in the mood for. The problem here is that they are jacks of all trades and masters of none. we thought the pizza to be very plain and bland, but OK. The gyro ordered by my spouse was good enough, but the pieces were very thin and the sauce had an odd flavor, sort of like too much pickle juice was put into it. I did enjoy the homemade mac and cheese, though it was not quite like my grandma used to make.
In the end, i would think the place is OK. i would get food here again when in a pinch and i need some prompt delivery.
