Again, I wish there were half stars!
This is usually my go to Indian joint when I have a craving, I've been going here since I was in HS.
My go to was always chicken tikka masala or buttered chicken. I remembered it being super creamy and amazing a few years back. Today's experience, the chicken tasted delicious, but the sauce wasn't as creamy, and it was definitely more tomato this time.
My SO got the chicken biriyani, he isn't keen on Indian food. But I did have a few bites and it definitely wasn't the best I've had here.
The bathroom was a little bit eh as well. Smelt like the 7th circle of hell of every animal dying in there with no soap.
It was a so-so experience, I'll probably try a different place next time to keep my options open.
Good, quick food. Loved the Fish Tikka & butter chicken. The cheddar Paratha was good, too. Service was a tad slow but the place was full.
An Indian restaurant likely to be "authentic" when a one sees people of that same culture zealously cooking, preparing and serving that food. Hearing the language spoken between the cooks, and staff and patrons definite BONUS points. Next test is the secret menu that no one seems to know about. Now we know that this is the spot I need to be at!
Enter Paratha Junction of Journal Square's "Little India" or " Indian square", personally I like" Little Bombay". It has all the bells and whistles I mentioned above. The area can be an overwhelming place full of action cramped on this one unique block of Jersey city, let alone NJ itself. Look no further stop into Paratha Junction.
On my birthday I had the most amazing meal with my girlfriend. She is not one to eat Indian. It's too spicy. she claims. She buckled down and threw down. I did not ask for my "MAKE IT HOT like I am Indian phrase" We had the Tandoori half chicken was a bit dry but used the curry from Lamb we ordered to give a bit of moisture. I just loved the flat bread Paratha served just went well with the rice. The place is byob so that is always a plus. My only gripe, the Lamb curry was missing umm… more LAMB. Was a lot of curry, no lamb meat. That is the american side of me, I need a big old piece of meat when eating these type of dishes.
The service is exceptional, the workers took their time, eagerly to teach me all about the menu. Everything was done with a smile. They were ready and willing to serve. Very rare do I find this in a place witch such modest prices. The ambiance is quaint and cozy. My girlfriend enjoyed the flat screen television playing native Indian shows. I recognized Bollywood stars Salman & Arpita Kahn on screen.
I am a non-Indian and can confidently say this is as authentic as it gets in JSQ. Its open till 2 am during the week, and till 4 am on weekends. I think only thing to make this place more authentic, is if they accepted Rupees for currency.
As Akshay Kumar would say:
"DON'T ANGRY ME!!"
and just visit this jewel of place.
Delivery was prompt and delivery guy was super nice. I ordered chicken tandoori and samosas. Food is most definitely authentic and ingredients cant get anymore fresher than this. I was hesitant at first to try it but glad i did. The Samosas which is the right crisp when you bite it and the potatoes and other ingredients mixed with it is just heaven esp when mixed with the green sauce! Its what i look forward to everytime. Chicken dish was juicy and flavorful as well and love eating it with the basmati rice that it comes with. Cannot wait to order from them for a third time.
A popular restaurant on the street, this place serves a variety of veg n non- veg paranthas. We tried their Atom Bomb Parantha which was more like an Indian Mooli (Radish) parantha with lots of chillies. The Mutton Rogan Josh n Kadai Paneer were extremely greasy. However their Naan tasted much better than rest of the dishes that we ordered.!
Though I have already written a review for Paratha junction(old location), this review had to be written after coming here today to the new location! We came in late ,around 10.30 pm tonight since most of the other restaurants nearby was either closed or too crowded. This place too was quite crowded but we managed to get a table. My first complaint is for the fact they take only cash and Amex. C'mon why would you do that to us people who hardly carry cash?
We ordered a hydrogen bomb paratha, aloo paratha and egg bhurjee with a mango lassi. When the food arrived, we discovered that the server had mistakenly got us egg paratha instead of egg bhurjee(for those of you who don't know Indian food, egg bhurjee is a side dish meant to be eaten with paratha while egg paratha is umm..just a paratha(Indian bread))..So basically we were stuck with 3 breads and nothing to eat it with..not even achar(pickle).! When we asked our server about the mix up,he didn't even offer to change the dish..He told he heard it as egg paratha, shrugged and walked away without even enquiring if we needed a side dish. Being extremely hungry and not wanting to wait any longer,we tried to eat the parathas without a side but they were flavorless and bland and we had to call our server and tell him to get us some pickle. The mango lassi was good but I couldn't enjoy it all that much since I was pissed off about the bland food.
Of course, to be fair, I have to say that others at this place seemed to be enjoying their food and ours might have been a totally random occurrence but I get mad when people dont even show a little remorse after messing up our order (especially when I am hungry and looking forward to a good meal). So this was your last chance,Paratha Junction.I am moving onto better things!
I am NOT a fan of Indian fare.
Why you ask?
Well, My stomach doesn't handle it very well. Once consumed Indian food begins to dance in my stomach like a Bollywood movie and the motions come and go, consistent with Bollywood dance scenes. Yikes.
So I stay away from it. Also, the spices tend to permeate my clothes and I like my scent to be curry-free so that's that.
But I will make an exception for Paratha Junction.
Why, you ask again?
First I blame my boyfriend who has shown me not all Indian food is the reason TUMS are still very popular. Also, Because this is the first time Indian food doesn't create a Holi day festival in my intestines.
And lastly their lamb curry (with extra lamb please!) tends to make me happy dance rather than make my stomach involuntarily dance. You know what I'm saying?
It also helps that the service is truly amazing. Waiters are super polite and attentive.
Totally give this place a go if you're in the area, in the mood for Indian, and want to eat to the tunes of Indian music videos playing.
Also it's byob.
You're welcome.
Amazing Patathas ..Loved their hydrogen bomb paratha..It was spicy ..full of meat and tasted awesome.
Will certainly Recommend this place !
Dont worry about the parking. They have a parking lot nearby.
