I'm going to break slightly from the sea of 5 stars, I may get a hit put out on me, so if I go missing and go silent here, it's not because of my lack of a 2016 Elite badge, I may be in trouble with the parmesean paisanos.
The food here is astronomically delicious, the Dennis is perfection in prosciutto, the bread is world class.
The lack of the fifth star (like my lack of a 2016 E-badge) is this: you can always be better, maybe it's the cheese not being as delicious as Alleva Dairy on Grand st (or my trickle of content in 2015), or the ubiquitous Italian deli sandwich not as good as Alleva either), either way, it's good to step back and taste the competition, and in little Italy, there are many great options.
That being said, Parisi is a real gem, a standout. The signature sandwich here is the Dennis, it's my favorite so far, I'd like to return and try the red sauce sandwiches too, the lard bread and prosciutto bread, but that is only if I keep my head above water, maybe earn back my badge too 🙂
The sandwiches here are great and the price is just right. I've gotten the chicken parm and the Dennis, both of which I really enjoyed, although I generally prefer the chicken parm — it's not quite in the same class for me as Faicco's or Parm (I found the chicken to be very slightly tougher and I like the bread better at the other places), but it's right in the next tier. The Dennis is a monster, and while it's great as is, I think I may have liked it even more with less chicken.
Overall, this is a really good sandwich/lunch spot.
Came here to try out The Dennis and it was delicious! It was a perfect mixture of prosciutto, mozzarella, chicken cutlet, pesto, and balsamic vinegar! The bread wasn't too tough to chew on and it balanced out the saltiness of the meats. It's a very flavorful sandwich that is definitely up to par with the Italian sandwich places in Brooklyn! It's also slightly cheaper at $11 so that's a plus as well!
In terms of the store, it's very old fashioned with no place to sit so you will be taking your sandwiches to go. Service was very nice. I like how they carve the meats/cheeses right in front of you so you know the ingredients are fresh. They also strategically place a rack full of chips next to the cashier to lure you into buying a bag or two of those as well haha. For the price, I would say The Dennis is definitely worth a try! Way better than Il VIP at Sergimmo and cheaper too!
Oh sandwiches, why do I love thee so much? It must your perfect combination fine cured meats, cheese, upon freshly baked bread . Andy this is exactly why in my opinion, Parisi serves up the best Italian sub in NYC. Yes, this is the home of the legendary "Dennis" sandwich, but for me, the Italian sub reins supreme here. You must ask for it with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, and their homemade fresh pesto. For those not looking to be in a food coma for the rest of the day, ask for a half sized portion. Be aware that they have limited hours until 4pm and closed on Sundays, but it's well worth it if you can drop by. Also, expect a wait and know that there is no seating so you will have to find a bench or stoop nearby. Lastly, bring the cash as they don't take credit cards. Buon appetito!
This place is literally around the corner for me. I kept on eyeing the Dennis on Yelp, so I had to try it for myself. I finally worked from home one day, traipsed down there, and got me a sandwich. They also do half sandwiches, which is pretty awesome (for those who can't finish the full one).
I couldn't even finish the half sandwich! I had half of it when it was piping home, and half of it later for dinner. Definitely eat it when it's still hot and ready to go. It was still delicious though. The pesto was just amazing and made it very flavorful.
Service was great too. Very quick. Would definitely have to come back again to try their other sandwiches.
This is one of those places where you know it's going to be good, even before you really try it. I came in for a late lunch on a Friday, and there was still a bit of a line. Nothing too crazy, though, so I only ended up waiting about 10 minutes. The place itself is remarkably drab, but the smells are great, and the product that they push is top-notch. And that's really what matters, isn't it? A real substance-over-style type Italian deli. The people behind the counter are very patient and friendly, and you have to be patient with them, because they really don't rush the process, but the wait is worth it.
I had heard and read rumors that their famous sandwich, the Dennis, might be the GOAT in NYC. I can't say for sure myself, but it has definitely moved up to my top 3, up there with Faicco's Italian special and Alidoro's Pinocchio. These sandwiches are pretty different in general though, so it's maybe not even worth comparing.
Back to the Dennis. Unreal. On a huge toasted semolina hero, thinly-sliced breaded chicken cutlet, is piled on, followed by a layer of prosciutto, layers of thinly sliced fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette, and finally, a thick layer of coarsely-blended basil pesto. Oh man. The meats are fresh, the mozzarella adds the creaminess factor, and the pesto and balsamic add the sour, yet slightly sweet acidity. The hero, is slightly toasted, so that it's still warm and has a bit of crust, but also enough chewiness to bring it all together. Dude brah. I might be over-hyping this for you, but it was overall, a great sandwich experience. Did I mention this was the size of my forearm? Oh yeah, it was the size of my forearm. At $11, easily enough for 2 meals, but it was just so good, that I didn't stop. In general, the prices are pretty good, with lard bread rolls (made with prosciutto) at 75 cents each, and other sandwiches all around the $10 range, all enormous.
If you happen upon this unassuming bakery, get the Dennis if you're feeling hungry. Well, actually, anything you get will fill you up, so you can't really go wrong. I'll most definitely be back to try their other offerings, if I can tear myself away from ordering the Dennis.
Lunchtime on a Friday and I was expecting a huge line for this popular deli. Surprised when I got there that only two other customers were inside. Guess people aren't big on giant sandwiches when it's hot out.
Had to order the Dennis ($11) with a snapple to wash it down ($2). Yep that sandwich is large. Heaping ingredients stacked one on top of another for glorious harmony. The best part has to be the pesto – just the right tang/spice that evens out the prosciutto. Bread isn't half bad either, not too hard nor chewy.
Not much else can be said. This is a no-frills place. Cash only. Take out. Enjoy on a bench, or at home/work. One of the better delis I've been to in the city.
The day had finally come where I would get a delicious sandwich at Parisi Bakery! Who better to go with than the BF, when all he ever wants is a classic Italian sandwich? We ordered The Dennis – the infamous chicken cutlet sandwich on a hero with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, and pesto. We took our monster sandwich outside, each grabbed a half with too many napkins in hand, and ate it silently standing on a nearby stoop. So New York, so classic. Necessary to try it once!
