I've been spending entirely too much time in diners of late. Perhaps I'm trying to recapture my desperately fleeting youth, or maybe I'm just drinking late into the night and wanting to stuff fried things in my face. Who can really say?
All I know is that I ended up at Park Plaza late one evening, and we ordered all the fried things. By that I mean we got the Plaza Pile Up: wings, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers, and onion rings. We added the Rockin' Fries (curly of course, because we're not idiots), the soup of the day (an exploratory order that turned out to be pretty good), and a chicken quesadilla.
This was probably excessive for only three people who had absolutely already eaten dinner. Well, I regret nothing.
Actually, I take that back. I regret everything. But that's more on me. Park Plaza is solid, and their fried things taste good.
Granted, they wouldn't let us sit at the gigantic round table, as they had little sympathy for the fact that I didn't want to sit next to my wife. And we had what was perhaps the worst service I've ever seen (in a good way)…but this will now be my go-to diner since Carroll Gardens Classic has betrayed me and everything I thought we meant to each other.
This place was recommended to us by a local (well, she's Irish but lives in NYC). Finding ourselves in need of a very late breakfast after crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge we headed here.
Agree with the other reviews about the size of the menu and its effect on food quality – it needs to be seriously streamlined so they can make a smaller number of dishes look and taste superb.
The pancakes with maple syrup and bacon were good, but not amazing. The two poached eggs (randomly served in a coffee cup), were less so.
It's the definition of A-OK if you're nearby and in serious need of carbs, butter and syrup 😉
Walked in with a friend just because we wanted to have a nice breakfast on a lazy ththirsd morning. Place look very clean, bathroom was so clean it was amazing, sat down right away. I ordered eggs benedict with potatoes and my friend ordered french toast with sausage and 2 eggs sunny side up. Coffee was nice and hot when breakfast came within 10 mins of placing the order. I didnt bother to ask for toast as most places include toast as part of the breakfast. So i skip it, the eggs were good but the potatoes didnt really have much salt or seasoning..kind of bland. Lucky for me they had salt and pepper and a good bottle of mexican hot sauce. The order of sausage looked very well done, in fact i would have sent it back but neither one of us had time to waste and we were starving. The place was not busy few people having breakfast but i dont think the kitchen puts much effort into presentation. Service was on point but foodwas not, so i would not come back. The food was just ok the bill was $24 with tax and we left a genorous tip for the waiter as he was really nice and he checked our table several times to make sure we were good. I can say at least the coffee was hot and the service was fast. I have to find a better breakfast place in the area.
I am open to suggestions…
I came here late one day just to munch. This review will be relatively short
MY ORDER:
Hot Chocolate- GREAT! Full of rich chocolate flavor, but not overwhelming. The whipped cream was also great, not too sweet.
Mozzarella Sticks- they were OK. not too bad but I've definitely have had better.
Sweet potato fries- REALLY GOOD. My friend had these with a burger and he said it was okay. Nothing more nothing less.
Strawberry Shortcake- GOOD. This was my favorite part.
A little pricey. Not impressed. Wouldn't come back to be quite frank. The service was ehh. Nothing spectacular.
I came here once before a couple of years ago and enjoyed my food, but now I'm questioning my judgement. Did I show up on a bad night this time, or was I really that drunk for my first visit?
To start off, the service was a little too slow for an empty restaurant. I don't think it's okay to have to wait for over five minutes for a menu or to be acknowledged for that matter. I'm not that impatient but come on! We were the only customers there. It took a while for our server to take our order, too. We even had to ask for our check from a cook we saw leave the kitchen because we were left alone for a little too long
So we both order burgers. Both were deluxe, but mine was with cheese. what PISSES ME OFF like no other is the fact that we were asked how we wanted our burger cooked. We asked for Medium. How did we get them? Overly well-done. Mine even had remanence of burnt fat and oil. The best part? It tasted old and as if it were frozen. I'm not a quitter, but I couldn't even finish mine. Had the fries been as bad as the burger, I would've screamed.
Honestly, I don't think I've ever had a bad burger before this one. Even White Castle burgers get the job done for me. My standards are pretty low, and this place couldn't even meet them. How can a diner mess up a burger?
I have ordered breakfast and a salad from this spot on a couple of different times and it was ok. Nothing to rave about. I find it annoying when you have to pay a container few considering not many other places do that. The food isn't that high of quality but coming from a diner you expect it to be around the same level of others. Wouldn't be my first pick to order from again.
Owner is a prick and the waiters are all creepy. Food sometimes would make my stomach ache but there were times this was my only choice.
Always sat on the Diner side of Park Plaza restaurant but decided to sit in the bar section today.
It's lunch time so there's a nice office-worker type crowd and vibe.
As usual this place from front to toilet is clean. The staff always friendly and accommodating.
I got a dinner meal of ribs, mash and corn which came with cole slaw, soup and crackers all very yummy. Truth is, I suggested we come to this place because of their ribs. I love it! My friend got an omelette, fruit and pancakes which too tasted great. Yep, at lunch we got breakfast and dinner meals cause we're bad like that!
Finishing review
Whenever I'm hungry or not in the mood to try something new, this spot is now one of my GO TO SPOTS.
Left satisfied plus my doggie bag ensured I had dinner (large portions)
The End.
