A gem in the South Street Seaport. I walked by this wine shop many a time and assumed (by the location, the look and the vintage Fiat inside the store) that this place would be pretentious and over-priced. I was so wrong.  An great selection of affordable wine (including their own brand) and a knowledgable, helpful staff that didn't make me feel like a serial killer for saying a usually only drink Yellowtail wine. Check this place out for sure!!!!

Wow – this store is really amazing looking inside!

I attended a tasting here and was really impressed with the wine store and also the tasting room in the back. It is easy to see that there is a lot of attention paid to detail here…everything from the wine selection to the decoration seems to be chosen with care.

I would highly recommend purchasing a gift from Pasanella. They have some really cool gift ideas and very nice packaging – pretty wooden boxes tied with purple ribbon.

Even if it's out of your way, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Stopped here for a late-afternoon wine tasting with a group of fellow Yelpers, and we were wholly impressed.  Michael, the shop's sommelier, knows his stuff.  Not only has he completed one level of somm training, but he spent 7 years scouring Europe for the best hidden vineyards and has near-encyclopedic knowledge of various regions in Italy, France, Spain, etc.  It was just fun listening to him talk.  Seriously.

For every bottle of wine that he selects to offer his patrons, he samples approximately sixty.  He humorously described his Sunday process of sitting in the back room with tasting note cards and a spitoon, calling in representatives from aspiring wineries one-by-one for their "audition."  What can I say…his perfectionist palate benefits his customers, as mediocre wine isn't in his vocabulary.

I was able to sample two whites: a 2012 Fontezoppa Verdicchio di Matelica ($13)  and a 2012 Azienda Agricola San Salvatore Falanghina Campania ($22).  I also tried their house rose, the 2012 Pasanella & figlio Rosato ($11).  All three wines were spectacular…and affordable.  I took home one of each and impressed a group of very picky ladies at their weekly wine party.

Aside from wine, the shop has a limited selection of high-end liquors on its back wall as well as assorted wine trinkets by the tasting station that the owner have collected over the years.

Check this place out if you're near South Street and the FiDi areas.  They deserve your business.

Since I returned to working downtown I have been reacquainting myself with some of my old haunts.  Pasanella & Son is just as good as I remembered.  Not a huge store but they have a well curated selection and very friendly and knowledgable staff.  I was browsing and talking about the rye selections with one of the staff.  He admitted that he only tasted it in a manhattan and had not had it straight.  I like that he was honest and didn't try to sell me based on a write up.  That's why I bought the Ragtime rye from Brooklyn.  I will discuss with him when I return.  Located near the seaport on South Street in  the shadow of the FDR drive.  Great wine store!

This really is one of the finest wine shops anywhere you'll find in New York City. Not only is the space absolutely gorgeous (even after being flooded with 10 feet of water due to Super Storm Sandy, but the staff is top notch and can easily point you in the direction of your perfect bottle of wine no matter what you're looking for. Need something to pair with Seamless Thai food? Trying to make an impression on that all important 3rd date? Celebrating a professional milestone? Trust that Pasanella and Son have your back.

It's a bit tricky to get to if you don't live in south LES or FiDi, but if you ever find yourself near you should remember to pop in for a looksie.

"A bottle of white, a bottle of red, perhaps a bottle of rosé instead?"
When it comes to wines this is pretty much all I know, so when I passed by this place I was intimidated.
I passed by a third time heading to The Paris Restaurant and I had to go in and face my fear of embarrassing myself by my ignorance of wine. (Also there was no one else in the store).

The staff was helpful and answer all my questions in a friendly way and not talk above me.
Their selection is huge and dazzling.
I was not ready to buy a bottle that day but I browsed  a little and plan to come back very soon.

So, I skipped the wines and headed to the spirits. A very nice selection of some of the more rated spirits in each class. I was on a vermouth hunt and happily stumbled across the ever lovely Capano Antica Vermouth, the full Dolin range and after some nice suggestions from the staff, was introduced to the Cocchi Vermouth di Torino.

Knowledgable staff, beautiful selection, good prices. Location means that this is definitely a spot for the locals, but that is not a bad thing either.
