  1. Have only bought raw pasta to go from here, but every time it's fantastic. Takes a lot of the time/effort (and skill) out of making a fantastic meal at home – $10-20 will get you plenty of pasta for 2-4 people.

Fairly small operation – usually only 1-2 people working there when I stop by during the day. Spinach ricotta ravioli is my favorite, but I haven't had anything I didn't like from them so far. Will have to pick up some pre-made sauce next time to try.

  2. You want authentic Italian cuisine…now Pasta Dal Cuore is the place to be!
Located in your neighborhood in downtown Jersey City, you'll find this cute, small, family owned restaurant. The front of the establishment, you will find that they sell fresh homemade pasta to take home. How cool is that?!

As you walk a little further down, you will see tables and chairs situated for a casual dining experience. My friend and I had the Polpette in Marinara. Basically, it's beef and pork meatballs in a light marinara sauce. This was so good, tender, and very tasty. Great sharing plate before the entree! For the entree, I ordered the Maltagliati Pugliasi which is thin pasta strips with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe. This particular dish was interesting because of the pasta. I've never had that type of flat thin pasta before. I enjoyed the texture and the freshness of if. The sausage and brocolli rabe was really nice with the garlic and oil. It was such a simple dish but very flavorful and satisfying. Last but not least, we ordered a dessert special that they had. It was crepes with nutella I believe. I am a huge dessert fan and I was a  little disappointed in this selection. The crepe was a little too crispy for my taste. I didn't enjoy it as much as i should've had.

Needless to say, I will be coming back for some more good authentic eats. The employees were super friendly and this is also a BYOB place.

  3. I have yet to eat at the restaurant, but it's definitely on my list of restaurants to try soon.  I stopped in for some fresh pasta, and was really happy with the quality and prices.  I bought saffron linguine which was amazing when I cooked it at home with some fresh clams.  I also bought some shortrib ravioli which my man said was good, but left him wanting more shortribs.  Also for sale in the market were sauces and a few other items.  Pasta Dal Cuore is a great addition to Jersey City!

  4. My first impressions of Pasta Dal Cuore is that they are in need of a serious decision. Should I be a restaurant or should I be an awesome market selling fresh pasta? Can I be both? If so, how do I incorporate these two into a cohesive unit so that I can make use of all this space?

I dined here with a couple of friends last week. I noticed that there was a bit more traffic for the fresh pasta than for the restaurant. This is a good thing, as the pasta must be good. And it was. I had the carbonara, and the highlight was definitely the pasta. It was soft and eggy and there was a lot of it. Unfortunately, I thought that the large pieces of pancetta and the single egg yolk did not create enough creaminess to really smother and coat all that delicious pasta. It also need a bit more salt, freshly cracked pepper ( when I asked for some, I was given some regular milled pepper…), perhaps some pecorino and maybe a little parsley? Okay, so I guess I didn't like the carbonara sauce that much. But, the pasta was very, very good.

I also tried the bolognese with the papperdelle and that was very tasty and delicious.

I'll definitely be back to get some of the fresh pasta. I've been complaining about how there isn't any in Jersey City, and now there is. So Yay!

I also will be back for pasta, just maybe not carbonara next time. It's BYOB here and it wasn't that busy on a Thursday night, so these are both definitely pluses.

Service was a bit slow, but it was a chill kind of night, so I noticed it, but it didn't bother me. If you're coming hangry though, this is something to be aware of.

  5. Absolutely incredible experience here! BYOB, homemade and unique pasta dishes, and a cozy and romantic ambiance are basically all of my favorite qualities in a restaurant. Pasta Del Cuore delivers on all fronts.

I initially tried their pasta on a Jersey Girls Food Tour. Because it was one of our last stops, I was pretty stuffed and didn't get to enjoy the pasta as much as I normally would have. But, what I did try I loved, and I knew it was only a matter of time until my next visit.

Fast forward a few months later, and my boyfriend and I had a nice bottle of wine from Cool Vines to pop open and were craving pasta. Pasta Dal Cuore? Done and done. It was a warm summer night and we were able to sit outside at a cute and romantic candle lit table. I definitely suggest sitting outside if weather allows!

We started off with meatballs as an appetizer. The order was pretty hearty and came with three large meatballs, drenched in a tasty red sauce. Complimentary bread was also served with olive oil and a fantastic eggplant caponata spread. Such a nice touch!

For my main I went with a spinach linguine topped with pancetta, caramelized onions and a creamy red sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the parmesan cheese was fresh and the portion was plentiful. My boyfriend ordered short rib ravioli and this dish was also A+++.

We both licked our plates clean and left stuffed and happy. The menu is a little pricey at around 16-20 dollars per pasta dish, but not having to order a bottle of wine is always a major plus. Price, the portions were huge and everything was so fresh. They have a very extensive list of pasta dishes on their menu. I can't wait to come back and try more!

  6. Great pasta! upon entering, you are greeted by a case of freshly made pasta. I had a feeling this place would be a good place to carbo load at. We were attended to promptly on a Friday night by a friendly server, who then brought us a bread basket that came with a variety of bread and also breadsticks. Mmm, breadsticks.

I got the squid ink linguine with stuffed calamari ($20) that I thought was delicious. It lacked a little bit in salt, but nevertheless the pasta quality more than made up for the slight lack of saltiness. I thought the stuffed calamari was a great addition as it really gave the dish another dimension. My friend had the spinach fettucine with pesto ($16). Apparently very tasty, according to her.

The decor of the place is a little sparse and a little industrial. It feels like it should be more homey, but isn't? Not sure if many Italian places look like this…Anyway, the food was great and I had no complaints whatsoever about the service. A solid 4 stars.

  7. Pasta dal Cuore makes their own pasta. You have the option to buy some to take home, or you can dine in the restaurant. The store is in front and the cafe-style seating is in the back, so don't get confused – you're in the right place! My boyfriend, his family, and I came in on a Thursday at around 7:30 or so. There weren't much people dining there and there were a few people here and there coming in to buy pasta. It seems the latter is the more popular option.

Though they do have quite a few selections for dine-in. I went with Maltagliati Pugliesi (thin pasta strips served with Italian sausage, broccoli rabe, red pepper flakes, pecorino). I really liked this! The pasta was similar to pappardelle, which I love – so that might explain why I liked the dish so much. All of the ingredients went well together and it wasn't greasy at all (like any pasta dishes with sausage tend to be). We also had an order of their meatballs, which was excellent as well. I definitely needed this to fill me up as there wasn't enough sausage in my pasta.

The service is kind of slow even though there weren't many customers. I think next time, I'll just try their fresh pasta to go.

Tip – BYOB. We brought a bottle of wine (I don't think they charge a corkage fee).

  8. Thank Heavenly Father for this place, for if it did not exist, I'd have to keep on traipsing into the city for fresh, homemade pasta. You can't even find fresh pasta in Hoboken, the home of all things Italian.

There was a place across the street that recently closed down that also sold fresh pasta, but they were greedy and sold simple salads for $13 and marinara sauce for $10. And now they're gone.

Pasta Del Cuore has the BEST, most authentic marinara for $4.99, and although i make mine from scratch like Scott Conant, this is the closest second to mine, using DOP San Marzano tomatoes, etc. Beats anything you can get in a jar and even the so-called homemade ones that taste bland.

Only reason they get 4 not 5 stars is they're closed Mondays and I'm a greedy pasta lover who wants them to be open 7 days. That, and the staff's a wee bit slow behind the counter, but, other than that, they rock!
