I finally found a good Vietnamese place in the city. The beef pho here is great. It is flavorful but not overly salty, the noodles are cooked properly, and the meat is average. I tried the grilled pork chop and it was really tasty. The prices here are reasonable and the place is also pretty clean.
Probably the newest (and cleanest) of the row of Vietnamese restaurants on this block of Baxter street. Their version of dishes tend to be sweeter than the average, so as long as you're okay with that, the food here is pretty good.
The spring rolls here are great, with a very nice crisp and crunch to them. We ordered some sort of saucy fried calamari dish, and that was very solid as well. For my own dish, I had the chicken with lemongrass over rice. The sauce on this and the calamari dish were sweeter than your typical Vietnamese restaurant. It was a refreshing difference, but I wouldn't say i prefer it.
Dined here on a Sunday night, not very crowded – a very neat place for vietnamese food compared to the ones around this area
Ordered:
1. grilled pork and spring rolls bun (cold noodles) $8.50
2. Combo beef pho (soup noodle) $8.50 for medium
3, Shredded pork wrapped with rice paper $6
My favorite was the grilled pork bun – the grilled pork was really really good, and the noodles are also really good
One star taken off because – when I got home, I got very very thirsty for the whole night, it might be the spring roll, but it made me really uncomfortable
Service was awesome, might go back
My go-to Vietnamese restaurant in the area. Try the beef stew noodles or the grilled pork lunch special. Tasty. Enough to fill your hungry stomach. The noodles soup dishes are good and most are under $10 for the medium size. I'm a frequent diner.
Walking around baxter street you see a lot of vietnamese restaurants and bail bond places; long and behold you are wakking down the street and the building next door ( tall building across from reataurant) is a city jail…
Getting back to the food. I having the grilled pork chop over rice which comes with a tender grilled pork chop, infused with garlic and sweet soy sauce. Let me just say that this is pork heaven when you have it. The plate has a small salad of carrots, cucumber, tomato and pickled radish. They also serve a clear sauce which i believe is a mixture of vinager and fish sauce which is supposed to be poured over the chop to enhance the taste of the pork.
If i could i eat here everyday. Honest truth is that i have been coming here since the late 80's and this joint is as good as it gets when you are in chinatown.
One of many good restaurants in the area. There are a few Vietnamese restaurants on the same block. We were surprised to have a good meal and would come back.
Decided to try this place out since there are so many Vietnamese restaurants around Chinatown I have yet to visit. The first thing that caught my eye was how clean and nice the place was. After being seated, my bf and I both ordered rice dishes; one lemongrass chicken over rice and one beef cubes over rice.
If only the food lived up to its surroundings. When the food was brought to our table, I could already tell that the lemongrass chicken was going to be disappointing. It wasn't fragrant and didn't smell like lemongrass at all. The chicken looked dry and of course, it tasted how it looked. Another Yelper mentioned that the lemongrass here was sweeter but I think in a not so good way. I like the light citrus flavor that comes with lemongrass but I couldn't taste it at all in this dish. My boyfriend's dish was a tad better. The sauce that came with the beef cubes was yummy but otherwise, the meat was still noticeably dry. I also ordered Thai Iced Tea and I have to say, this place serves the sweetest Thai Iced tea I've ever had in my life…
Sadly, everything we ordered did not meet our expectations. I probably should've gotten Pho instead of a rice dish, but if a place can't meet standards for a simple rice dish, I don't know how I feel about its authentic dishes. The stars are really for the service.
Clean and authentically Vietnamese. They have pho – but best of all I love my grilled quail. They do it very week. Tasty and moist – not dry.
