  1. I moved to SI from Howard Beach, we used to have a Pastosa close by but it shut down.  I haven't tried the other locations, but from what I've gotten here, it was delicious.  The ravioli is fantastic and I found their prepared Marinara sauce to be very good for a prepared sauce as well.  If you don't have time or just don't mess around making your own sauce, this is much better than jarred or other pre made sauces.  The deli meat was also fresh and tasty, I thought the packaging of the deli meat was a little weird though.  They had all the cuts of meat I needed that day and they all tasted good as well.  The produce and other groceries selection could be bigger, if you need several things, Pastosa isn't a one stop shop, but if you need some onions, garlic, and a couple of regular veggies they  have it covered.  Unexpectedly, I thought their baked goods were really really good.  I don't know if they bake them at a factory or they buy them from another bakery but the italian cookies were honestly the best bakery cookies I've ever had.  Also, they sell frozen Junior's cheesecake.  Definitely stop by!

  2. Pastosa in general is a great store.  My favorite location is Forest Avenue.  Yes, it's small but the employees are fabulous and they have a fish department.  It's just a welcoming stores where a clueless chef can leave feeling like they can handle cooking a tasty dish!

This location.  Eh.  I like the size.  Right away though I could see the employees weren't helpful (meat dept). One woman who worked there was, but the rest of the employees seemed like they were just going (barely) through the motions.  I came in for fish, but they don't have fish.  Their salads (mushrooms, peppers, etc…) are already packaged.  I did buy a prepared Greek salad for $7.39.  The chicken was tender, white meat that had a nice flavor.  Otherwise the salad was small and meager with a creamy dressing.  I bought tomato and cucumber salad to add to it.  It also had black olives and I prefer kalamata.

Pasta selection is huge.  Truffle ravioli for almost $10-I'm coming back for you.  I bought the spinach manicotti.  I tossed in a vodka sauce that had no price on it.

Large meat section.  They have rib steak, but it's missing the bone (eh).  They had bacon wrapped chicken kabob and many stuffed burger options.  This seems like a great spot to pick up food for the grill.

Upon checkout I told the cashier I can't see how much the items are and some weren't marked.  She didn't care.  My vodka sauce was $9! Now that's the most I've paid for a vodka sauce.  I only saw that once I left because she could care less to tell me the prices and I couldn't be bothered annoying her with customer service.

They do have a private lot, it's small.  I'd go back here for pasta, cheese (fresh salted/unsalted mozzarella) and bread (eggplant parm, spinach, etc.).

  3. This was my first time shopping at this location. I usually go to the one on Richmond Rd (which I prefer). I don't like that you can't really see the deli and they have limited produce. Prices are reasonable and there was no line. Meats looked fresh and workers were more than willing to help. Parking lot needs to be extended.
