Pearl’s

“Lovely atmosphere and great drinks, but the real draw is the food – try the shark bake at least once and keep coming back for the amazing chicken bake!”

“After coming home from Jamaica I was craving jerk chicken, tried to do my own and it was terrible, then I found PEARLS, and my life is complete!”

“We also tried two cocktails: Hot Gyal and the Caribbean Vagabond – both insanely good and refreshing concoctions.”

  1. What a great addition to Brooklyn!
    Super friendly staff, but it's the artistic creative art that keeps me captivated of this place.
    Super foot photogenic, the wallpapers are so vibrant and energetic.

    Started off with the L.L.B drink, i usually don't like any fizzy drink but this was delicious! Tasted like a sprite with hot pepper spices? Strange but addicting.
    Also got the gauc and chips, the plantain chips(!!), a must get!! Perfectly cooked, and great dip for the gauc.

    Ordered the Veggie roti as my entree. Huge portion, though it was more on the salty side. I couldn't finish the dish because it was too salty. The dish was delicious but i would recommend asking them to make it less salty.

    I think the wife of the sweet chick owner, is the owner of Pearl's. Super chill vibe, I would definitely recommend checking out Pearl's.

  2. We decided to bring my BFF to Pearls to celebrate her birthday. I was a bit taken back by the little to non existent brunch crowd on a beautiful Sunday afternoon but I wasn't deterred. I had them bookmarked so I definitely checked out the menu prior to dining in and after reading all the great reviews I was excited to give them a try.

    The indoor dining space is small with seating for around 25 people, colorful picinic tables are available in their outside patio area too. The decor inside is cool, bright and funky with vintage accent pieces like boomboxes and graffited walls. The environment of Pearls is remniscent of somewhere tropical and warm. The smooth sounds of Mr Marley playing in the background just brought everything together.

    Our group of 10 was seated promptly and probably at the best table in the house. We had a perfect view of the entire restaurant (great for all my Yelp photos). The pricing was on point with food items ranging from $11-$18 and alcoholic drinks starting at $10. We ordered an array of drinks; Pearls rum punch, Frozen rude boy, mango bellinis, their mango L.L.B (Lemon-Limeade and Bitters)and they were all unsatifying. They were either unbalanced flavorwise or just too fruity (no alcohol taste=weak). The Brunch menu was super appealing, bake and shark, bake and shrimp, jerk shrimp frittata, French toast ugh! I was in Caribbean heaven! Our table ordered a bunch of different items but I personally tasted the bake and shrimp, jerk shrimp fritatta and the French toast. They were all delicious and the jerk seasoning they use on them shrimp was authentic as hell! The bakes were very soft, fried fresh (I seen it myself) and filling.

    Looking forward to trying other items on their menu, I'll be back!

  3. This place is pretty awesome.  SO MUCH BETTER than Miss Lily's across the river.

    I was looking for a good spot to go to close to Brooklyn Bowl before a Steel Pulse concert and Pearl's was absolutely perfect to get us in the mood for a reggae dance party.  The vibe is islandy but still maintains an urban flare.  Gotta love the vintage ghetto blasters on the wall.  The music was top notch reggae/dub that kept you bouncing as we ate.

    The drinks could be stronger as we had to request double tequila to even taste the alcohol but the food was excellent.  We enjoyed everything that we ate and we had a good sampling of the menu.  The bakes were sweet and light despite being deep fried.  The bake and shark was my favorite but the bake and jerk chicken was my friends favorite so they were both winners in our book.  The sauces that they provide to accompany the bakes are all homemade and delicious.  I love the combination of the hot (very hot habanero!) sauce and the sweet tamarind sauce when mixed together.  The oxtail stew was a special that night and super tender and flavorful.  Lots of work to eat it off the bone but that's to be expected.  The curried goat was fantastic and not gamey at all.  I got the ribs which had great flavor but were a little dry in my opinion.

    Overall, we had a great time at Pearls and I will definitely be back.

  4. Great addition to the area and the inside decor is fun and unique.

    Had dinner here on a Friday night. Tried the jerk chicken with rice and cabbage, this was a great dish. Also had the shark bake sandwich and plantains, unfortunately these were not that good. Not much flavor for either.

    Service was fast and friendly.

  5. +++
    – Leftovers were almost better than original meal

    ++
    – Love the prices
    – Bake and short rib was good, but was told the entree short rib was better

    +
    – Plantains travelled well

  6. Pearl's is a lot of fun if you're in the mood for a hot new spot with a lot of buzz. The space is tiny but wildly decorated with lots of colorful murals and loud (and I mean LOUD) music. Add to that the fact that every single table is bound to be filled with lots of chattering diners on any given evening and you're definitely in for a high energy experience. If you're opposed to shouting a bit at your table mates dinner at Pearl's might not be the best thing for you.

    I took a few out of town guests here and we all had a ton of fun once we were seated. It's a great place to try with a group of open minded eaters who don't mind sharing and tasting everything. I don't know much about Caribbean fare but I left the meal VERY full and pretty pleased. Expect a hearty, heavy meal when you come here. This isn't for you sad salad-only people.

    We tried a ton of dishes including the jerk chicken, curried conch and dumplins, plantains, and their bakes, which are big sandwiches with lots of doughy bread. All of these dishes were full of flavor and, again, very hearty. It was all great washed down with some of their fun festive drinks, many of which were frozen and pretty damn sweet – so be warned that you may get a headache from all of the sugar if you choose to go that route!

    Once we were seated, the service was friendly and helpful. I say once we were seated, because the process of getting seated was pretty nightmarish. I called to see if I could get a reservation, and they said normally I couldn't but that they'd make an exception, but then never confirmed so I called to check, was put on hold forever, so I had to walk in the day before the dinner to make sure we were on the books, and then when we got there our table was given away (to be fair we were 4 minutes late). Though the tiny entryway was packed with people trying to get seated, we decided to wait it out and at the end of the night, we were happy we did because we weren't in a huge rush to get to dinner and we did really enjoy our experience. I'm not sure if it's just as crazy for brunch, but I do know if you go for a late lunch on a weekday you have your pick of the place so if you can swing it I'd suggest that!

  7. Yum food and incredibly sweet (literally sweet) drinks. Made it 4 stars for the ambience- good music and party-inducing lights set the tone for a dinner with a party atmosphere. The food is HEAVY and FILLING. If you haven't had Caribbean food before, it's similar to American Southern food. It doesn't taste like Southern food but is also deep fried, lots of carbs, and leaves you feeling stuffed. If you haven't had American Southern food either, then just go to Pearl's and take a chance.

  8. This adorable little Caribbean spot in Williamsburg has a full bar and patio.  We decided to check it out because I have never had shark before.  So I ordered the bake and shark and the jerk chicken.

    The bake and shark is a sandwich.  The "bake" or bread is a winner!  I loved the texture and hint of sweetness.  I could actually just eat it alone and feel completely satisfied.  I also enjoyed the mango coleslaw that came on the sandwich.  It's refreshing and crisp and complements the fried shark very well.

    The rice and peas win the award for after thought of the year.  Completely boring, completely dry and completely tasteless.  I poured a few of the sauces that come with your bake to try and revive it.  There's a garlic sauce, a cilantro sauce, a red pepper sauce and a black bean sauce.  They're all tasty and saved the beans, sort of.

    The food was good but I'll probably keep hopping around until I find my perfect rice and peas.  They mean the world to me.
