Pelham Bay Diner
“my husband and I love their breakfast and you can't go wrong with their cheeseburgers.”
“They are surprisingly good (not too sweet and not too weak)– who would have thought a competent bartender works in a diner that's essentially in the middle of nowhere (entertainment-wise)?”
“Ultimately if you want to err on the side of caution, stick with diner fare that you know a diner does right.”

Not your typical diner. It's massive and the waitstaff can often neglect you. The food is O.K. I went once, and enjoyed my meal, but the second time was definitely my last. There are much better places you can go to where the food is cheaper and much better.
2.5 STARS ( based on this one experience )
I guess my expectations were a little high when I ordered a pulled pork sandwich for dinner (from a diner). Had a very long day & wanted something that would really hit the spot. This pretty much missed the "spot"… It almost tasted like it was taken from a vat of "frozen" pulled pork & reheated quickly in the microwave. I say this because when I got the food served to me, the fries were hot but the meat was just kinda on the warm side. It wasn't piping hot like it should've been! There was a semi-strange taste too… almost like freezer burn…? Got the fries with gravy on the side which I did like a lot.
I ordered a decaf coffee & didn't care much for that either. Waiter said he would make a fresh pot. Took like 7 creamers & several equals just to make it taste somewhat bearable. The waiter, when he finally got over to us, was very nice & did a good job. I noticed a table that was seated after mine got service before I did. This was around 9:30 pm on a Saturday nite & not many people were there.
I might possibly try the place again in the future. Maybe go for breakfast or a burger.
This used to be the staple diner to go to if you lived in the northeast Bronx, and I've dined here many times since I was a child. However in recent years I feel this place has taken a nosedive in the quality of food and service they provide.
While I rarely go here anymore, I pop in once every few months to see if there has been any improvement but alas, as of my last meal here recently this place is still low rent. Upon entering, the host was indifferent to our arrival, service was slow, and the food was a disappointment. They renovated the inside a few years back but it's starting to show wear and upkeep seems to be minimal.
There are better diners in the Bronx and lower Westchester you can go to. This diner needs to focus more on delivering quality food and better customer service and stop riding on the coattails of being NY Daily News' "Diner of the Year" back in 1995.
This is your typical diner scene with your typical diner food offerings.
Service was excellent — our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
What I loved most about the breakfast is that you can get your egg entree with either toast or PANCAKES! (What a rare offering and I love you for not making me pay extra for a short stack).
There's a 2hr bottomless brunch special for an additional $16. This was a bit confusing on the menu, as you'll think you're paying $16 total for brunch. Le No! But our waitress did well to explain.
Overall no complaints, pleasant experience, typical food, easy parking.
If I could give this place negative stars I would. Ive placed orders from this shithole simply out of laziness and the fact that not many restaurants are nearby my apartment. I've overpaid for less than decent food, and today they took an hour and a half for two plates of eggs and corned beef hash. To add insult to injury, when it got here, it was two side orders of cold pancakes. When the delivery guy tried to bring back the second bag he forget, I told him I didnt want the rest of it, because cold eggs really arent my thing. He argued with me, the asshole who answered the phone didnt seem to know the meaning of customer service, and when the site that I ordered from tried to contact them for a refund they refused stating that they gave me the entire order.
fuck you for ruining my hungover sunday meal.
Big diner. Ok food and service. It's good for a quick stop if you're hungry. I had breakfast and coffee here and it was ok.
I tied this place for breakfast, we got omelettes and a burger. The food here is bland. We didn't enjoy anything we ordered, sorry 🙁
Get the cheeseburger deluxe n dip ur fries in honey mustard dressing for lunch/dinner. Good service too
