  1. Came here for the drinks and the unbelievable views of NYC.

I wish I could compliment the beautiful female bartenders at the main bar, unfortunately when you catch them taking 2 bottles of wine and combining them into the 1 that was purchased for $57 I have a problem with this.

I would have walked out, but our group wanted to stay, a female manager came over, and did the right thing by us, however this should have never happened.

Corona will run you $7.50, my advice is go to smaller outside bar, those guys took care of us. We ordered more bottles and they were more than happy to get us anything not at their outdoor bar area.

Great crowd of people, no issues, not overcrowded, and the music was good. A little mix of new and old.

  2. Cool place to have dinner with friends. I came here with 4 other friends and we shared a pupu platter to start. The presentation was really cool, the platter came with wings, spring rolls, shrimp and beef satay. We also got salmon carpacio and an order of skirt steak to share and that steak actually came out to be overcooked and really dry. On the side we had pomme frites (fries) and those were really salty. We also got some pineapple rice and to our disappointment the dish came out cold. So overall the food wasn't that great.

Service was extremely slow, they were really busy on that Saturday night. Make sure you have reservation before you get there.

  3. First timer. Booked the Valentine Day Package with the Ravel Hotel for eat and stay with a 4 course pre fixe menu.

Loved everything about this restaurant. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The drinks were delicious and the food was even better.

We started with a delicious avocado salad, then a teriyaki glazed piece of cod fish, followed by the best piece of filet mignon I think I ever had, with lobster mashed potatoes and broccolini, and the molten lava cake for dessert. They hit it out of the park with this menu. I would definitely come back.

  4. Friday Night Dinner Review:

I struggled with how many stars to give this place, because the food wasn't that good and pretty expensive, but the vibe, view, service & experience generally was really incredible, so I erred on the higher end rating.

Drinks: peach sangria was good but not that strong; sweet escape was amazing if you like sweeter, citrus-y drinks; and the grave mistake is – appropriately named – great if you want a strong buzz, but not so great if you don't enjoy the taste of straight rum. 🙂

    Food:

LIKE: we tried a whole bunch of stuff, but my favorites were the tuna poke (the portion is tiny, but it's delicious), the skyline roll with fresh king crab & salmon, the porkbelly & beef wagu skewers (two skewers per order- one bite each).

MEH: Least favorites? Bok choy side, shrimp skewer, spring rolls (just fried bits) & the other sushi rolls were kind of dry and chewy– especially the $26 surf and turf roll.

    Experience:

This is amazing for a fun, boozy Friday night with friends. We had dinner, which transitioned into a dancey, clubby night. Pitchers of alcohol are $68. We sat right at the edge of the restaurant with the most beautiful view of the bridge and NYC skyline.

Our waitress was AMAZING, but they booted us from the table by 11:30 to make room for bottle service tables.

The music is top hits and Latin flavor. It was super fun, not too crowded and exactly what we were looking for, but I can imagine someone hating this if the vibe is unanticipated.

It was a super fun vibe. I would come back for drinks and dancing again, but likely wouldn't do a full dinner again. It was pricey and the food wasn't honestly worth.

  5. I LOVED Penthouse 808. We had a living social deal and decided to try the spot out. The view is decent, not on the edge of the water so it has a water plant hindering the view of the skyline. HOWEVER, we did an early dinner reservation, fairly empty towards the first half of the evening.

The Ravel sushi was was awesome!!! Stuffed with shrimp, avocado, etc. It's an appetizer good to split between two people or maybe just yourself depending on how hungry you are, comes with 8 pieces.

We had the Coconut curry as an entree which was SO GOOD. I'm glad the rice and seafood were filled with sauce and spices. It has mussels, scallops, shrimp, and it's served in a coconut itself! Very pretty display.

I had a blue margarita which wasn't too strong or sweet, just right. And for dessert, the molten lava cake was the best I've ever had. It's warm, succulent, and has chocolate chips in it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The bill came up to $105 for a party of two (before the LS deal), including tax and tip. Our waitress/waiter were super awesome. She made sure our drinks werent too strong or sweet and the waiter even carved the coconut for us afterwards to snack on.

LOVED it here and would definitely go back.

  6. Beware: Don't come for dinner. Drinks might be a different story but I can't comment on that experience.

Came here with my family for a nice rooftop dinner. At first I thought this place would great.. Sushi and a view! How could you beat that? Well long story short, the service was horrendous. As bad as the waitress's knowledge on the menu and ingredients in stock that day.

The food came out at a decent time, not too long of a wait time. All looked super pleasing to the eye, but honestly nothing to rave about.. and at these prices, the food should literally make me scream and shout.  The waitress we had was completely clueless on the menu, we asked about the chef's sushi special of the day and she literally said "It's whatever the chef feels like making that day, and I don't know what that is." Umm, okay, great answer!

My sister ordered the coconut curry rice, which was supposed to have clams in the dish. When she realized there were no clams and asked the waitress about it she offered to bring her dish back in and remake it with clams. We objected and politely asked if she could just bring out the missing ingredient on a plate. She came back and said "Sorry, we actually don't have any clams in stock today." So…. were you literally about to take the plate into the kitchen and bring it back out again with no clams? Why didn't you tell us you didn't have this in stock? We're paying the same price, with a missing shellfish… which is probably a factor of the dish's price.

The waitress then forgot to add our Groupon coupon to the check when we specifically handed it to her as soon as we were seated at her table. Once she edited the check for us, she literally disappeared into the wind for a good 15 minutes. We had to beckon the hostess over to finish out our transaction.

I would not recommend to my friends (even though the view is awesome) and will not come back.

  7. As  both our children are away to join us for a Father's Day celebration –  I brought in my hubby to this place for some kind of pre-celebration and a romance date as well . Glad that they did not give  me a hard time using my Living Social voucher on a Friday night before a national holiday as some restaurants are strict with days or the occasions near it.

We arrived quite few minutes late for the requested 7 PM reservation. Finding for a parking spot in the area was quite a hustle. The elevator brought us to the penthouse- the 6th floor of Ravel Hotel. As we walked in, the place just starting to fill up but still missed the chance be seated in the lounge area which is at the edge of the rooftop floor and has the best picture perfect Manhattan skyline and Queens borough bridge backdrop . We were seated a row away from the lounge area, glad that we  still captured a good view of the sunset , the skyline and the bridge.  There is no shame of taking photos in this place as it is one of the reasons people are coming up here aside from the fact that the amazing view sets everyone's mood.

As our wonderful waitress gladly told us that we made it to the happy hour where all bites and drinks costs only $7, she explained that they don't accept a combined promo, either we  use our voucher or take the Happy Hour deal. Of course, we prefer large serving and we sided  the voucher.

Hubby got a beer and I had sake sangria for a starter drinks. The cocktail price is  way expensive. My first sip acknowledged  that its alcohol content was all worth it. As expected my glass lasted for the entire dining. It took them a while to served our appetizer, actually it was served longer  than our a main entrée. Thanks for the view, the music, the company and the crowd that we didn't notice that it has been quite a wait already. The appetizers (tuna taco) we got was light and good. My coconut curry bouillabaisse meal was so delicious… the rice as side was more than enough for a person , the mixed seafood( clam, shrimp, scallop)  were cooked just right that makes it chewy to bite ,  its coconut milk /curry sauce combination that added to it made this dish amazingly enticing. My husband salmon was cooked on his liking but lacks of sides for perfection. All the dishes were creatively presented, made it appealing and pleasant to the eyes.

The wait staff were relaxed, they did not give us this pressured feeling to order for more nor make us feel to leave even though they see that we have emptied our glass or our plate already. They waited for our service call but were always ready anytime we need them.  .

I saw that the manager was socializing with the guests….walking around to talk to each guest  or even just to say hi. A good music was playing in the air and an observation deck was available for the guests to stop by after dining.

The place is a perfect spot to hang out, bites, drinks, food , music and view- there is  nothing else you could ask.

  8. Story: Took the boyf here for a date night after seeing the sweet views.

Food: Everything took forever to come out!
    – Edamame – yes, yes, yes – do it! The seasoning was flavorful. We finished within minutes because we just couldn't stop.
    – Spring rolls – Extremely disappointing 🙁 They were practically empty on the inside and was not a fan of the sauce at all.
    – Pineapple rice – Initially, I thought it tasted pretty good, but the more I ate – I got tired of it. It was filling for a side, but wish it had more flavor and was a little less dry.
    – Molten Red Velvet Lava Cake – I am appalled that a lavish restaurant like Penthouse 808 could give us this dessert the way they did. The ice cream was melted when we received it and the cake was burnt. So burnt that we couldn't break it apart with our forks…
Overall, I do not recommend the food. The next morning I woke up feeling terribly sick – may or may not have been related to dinner the previous night, but I wouldn't have the food here again. If anything, I'd just recommend coming here for drinks and the view.

Service: I made a reservation here a week in advance and requested a table with a view. I called two days prior to confirm and again asked for a nicer table as we were celebrating a special occasion. The hostess was very nice and ensured me that she'll make it happen. We got there and got an eh-okay table. I was sort of disappointed, but I thought I'd suck it up as it was a bit busy. Right after we had ordered (which took a while), it started to clear up a bit and there were multiple tables right next to the window open. I kindly asked our waiter if we could switch tables. He kindly said no because there were people with reservations coming in. However, 2 of those tables remained empty for 20-30 minutes longer. I thought maybe they wanted to save those tables for a larger party, but other parties of 2 were seated at them too. Nonetheless, the server was nice and attentive.

Setting: Great for drinks with a view! Beautiful view of the NYC skyline and the bridge. One teenie tiny thing that I didn't like was about the tables. I know, I know – sounds nuts, but the table to seat ratio was uncomfortable.

Tip: Check the weather! Completely out of forecast, it began raining cats and dogs 30 minutes prior to my reservation! Definitely not worth it if the view is blocked by the blinds. Thankfully, it stopped downpouring a little into dinner and they raised the blinds!
