  1. Considering the fact that People's Choice is pretty much the only Jamaican option in the immediate vicinity, they really don't have to be as good as they are.  The service is slow but that is to be expected.  There is usually a line of impatient patrons crowding the small space but they know that there dish will be appetizing and filling once they get it.  Think that calling ahead will make a difference.  Don't.  You still wind up waiting in line just like everyone else and they rarely if ever have your dish ready when you get there…no matter how many stops you made on the way. Still in all, they run a fair establishment and the Ox tails are usually the best dish in my opinion.  I don't care for the brown stew chicken (tough and bony) and the fish tends to be too greasy.  Here's a tip: when ordering the jerk chicken get it without any sides. You'll be eating it for the next two or three days.  Recently, the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down but they are still one of the best places to get "real" food in the area.  Oh, and the juices they make are great!  The lemonade and fruit punch has that ginger bite that I love so much.

  2. From behind bulletproof glass you'll get more curried goat and rice & peas in a styrofoam box than you can eat. Seriously. The small is good. The medium is massive. The large…well, 3 of them could probably feed 6-8 people.

Don't bother too much with the menu. Ask the lady what's on. Then get it. And eat it. Expect about 4 dishes most days.

The curried goat is some of the best I've had. The oxtail is fabulous. With this food they could hire a front-of-house manager, move into a resto, and charge double.

But they won't. And that's why it's so good.

Porridge, ox tails, curry chicken, beef patties…all so delicious.
You've probably walked by this place countless of times but never bothered walking in…Go in! A culinary cruise to Jamaica awaits you.

$7-$9 (depending on what dish you choose) may sound expensive for a "small" sized entree…But I assure you that you'll have trouble finishing the small in one sitting.

Today, I indulged on a small order of ox tails with rice and peas and veggies…It was divine! The ox tails were rich, moist and smothered in delicious brown gravy (not greasy). I was pleasantly surprised to find huge pieces of yam or sweet potato mixed in with my cabbage and carrots. The rice was perfect too! Not too soft, mushy or clumpy…rather it was cooked just right!

I will definitely be back for the ox tails again.
Oh, be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes for your order…It's worth it!

  4. 2.5 stars
Ive been walking passed this place for close to five years now, but today I decided to finally give it a try. In retrospect, I wish I had continued walking.

I ordered the $6 lunch special of curried chicken- it came with a choice of rice (beans and rice or just white), the vegetable (cabbage, carrots n peas) and two pieces of fried plantain.

The chicken- was forgettable, other than the fact that it had more bone shards in it than Jenna Jameson in the 90's.
Rice n beans- were okay, I guess.
"Vegetable medley"- was overcooked to say the least.
Plantains- were definitely the best part.

I may go back to try their fried chicken lunch special- I mean, its pretty hard to fuck up fried chicken…
