  1. Peralta's is a hidden island of "great" in a really weird neighborhood. We went in to have some lunch and discovered really great food. I had the juiciest and tastiest torta I've ever had. We also ordered regular sopes. They rocked.

The place has three cafe tables where you can look out the window and watch the world go by. When we were there, Real Madrid was just about to kick off with Barcelona. It seemed appropriate.

After eating, I walked around the little store. It was chock full of Mexican foodstuffs. After loading up, we drove back to suburban Philly. Peralta's made an otherwise crappy visit to New York worth the effort.

If you are ever in Peralta's neighborhood, do yourself a solid: Walk in and order some incredibly tasty food.

  2. Get a twist on your sausage egg and cheese. Order a chorizo eggs and Mexican cheese. It'll blow you away. prices are modest. sandwich plus coffee ran me $6.50 which I find to be on the high side. A lot of Mexican items are available and it really is a family run joint. come in if you're in the area for some authentic Mexican food and groceries.
