3 stars! I came here with my dad and sister for dinner after we went kayaking down the street. I ordered the calamari, my dad ordered the clam chowder soup and my sister ordered the hamburger. It is a little confusing considering one window is for seafood only and the other window is for i guess the land food lol. CASH ONLY! Omg I hate places like that. Anyways, nice view of the water and the food came out fast which was a plus. Would I recommend this place? Ehhhh…. Only if there was nothing else to eat.
Great food. Had the lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese and the sweet chili calamari. Everything was fresh and delicious.
So a few days after having Peter's new and improved lobster roll, I went back to have another. This time it was still all claw meat, but the roll was hard and old and the lobster meat was completely soaked in a very thin mayo sauce.. This was the worst lobster roll that they have ever served me. The thin mayo sauce was gross! Just when I thought that they were onto something good, they went and changed it. The lobster roll that I was served 3 days prior was lightly tossed in plain mayo and the roll was fresh. Just look at the picture attached to my last review. Consistency people!!!!!! I'm being very generous with 3 stars…
Why did the Clam workout? …he wanted Mussels!
Anyway, been passing Peter's everyday for years it's located on a pretty busy road & I always see people/cars coming and going – I say to myself I wanna try this place. So I finally did. And it's not that bad.
I know this place was hurt by Hurricane Sandy, but since it reopened it looks great! Dining room is a very good size. You can opt to dine inside or outside by the water. The tile on the walls give it a very sea life/ nautical feel. It's very bright and cool in there.
Menu is great. Pretty much your typical clam bar menu. Everything was good, on point & delicious. Definitely leaving me wanting more. My daughter loved the clam sauce so much we had to back again for more. Hahaha.
Service though- nothing to write home about. I'm not complaining but not impressed.
Parking available but be careful- it's located on a pretty busy road
We went here on Memorial Day and it was packed. Not only were there 3 separate lines – one for cooked food, one for raw food and drinks, and another for tables – a little ridiculous if you ask me. We got their fish and chips, the shrimp and chips, stuffed clams, baked clams, and corn on the cob – food was mediocre at best. They also ran out of raw oysters and coconut shrimp which is what I really wanted. their white sangria was pretty good though, but besides that, I'm not sure I'd go here again willingly…maybe if I were with a big group of friends and we just all needed some fried foods in us stat…
Overpriced disappointment …even after renovations.
I will start by saying that I have never really been a fan of Peter's in general – restaurant or clam bar. Being that I heard amazing things after their renovations, I decided to try it out once again. I can't really say that it was worse, but I can definitely confirm that it certainly wasn't better than what I remembered.
The first tip I'll give is that if you want to eat on the more casual side/clam bar, then bring cash because it's cash only. The staff isn't super friendly and made note of "being around for 75 years" a few times – as if this justifies any problems or actions that you may not like from the staff. If you ask questions, they basically read the menu to you – thanks.
So first the positive, the cherrystone clams (raw bar) and the lobster asparagus salad are outrageously delicious (yes, after all of that negativity, I will say that these are GREAT items). The salad was pricey at $18 but could serve two and has PLENTY of lobster and a great vinaigrette. If I went back here, I'd get it to go. I would come back just for these two items. And that's about all of the greatness from this restaurant (the reason for two stars, very generous).
Now on to the lobster roll and side of fried shrimp – HORRENDOUS. The lobster roll is filled with mayo and was served on a stale roll. The roll wasn't just day old stale, but really stale and when we told the person at the cash register she kind of laughed it off. No, we weren't kidding. My boyfriend never wastes food and he actually didn't eat it. It was that bad.
The side of shrimp was so heavily breaded and tasted like it was fried in really old oil. It was greasy and didn't taste good – the oil taste almost coated my mouth. Now, I'm a fan of fried seafood so I'm pretty familiar with it…you can get better fried shrimp in a diner or maybe even at a supermarket, the frozen kind. Again, old oil….somehow I feel that Pete's has to pay for the renovations and reuses things or stretches the ingredients in order to get the most out of it. Unfortunately, I tasted it in the food.
Needless to say, we were turned off by Pete's…(also, we ordered the salad, lobster roll, side of shrimp $6, and a soda…turned out to be $58…a little steep because our raw bar items were not included).
Maybe good for takeout but there are plenty of other places around – (Bigelow's for fried seafood, Pops for lobster roll-water front dining, and Jordan's for lobster and casual water front dining) with better food, pricing and staff.
Not recommended unless you are going for the actual restaurant atmosphere.
I really hate writing this review, but I am going to be honest. Let me start by saying I am not a fan of raw clams. However, my family loves them, and they all told me the clams they had here on Sunday were fantastic. So if you just want to come for some clams and beer, this is a 5 star place.
I, however, did not enjoy my experience. First of all it is a little confusing where you have to go to order what. I went to the Seafood window, and was told half the things I wanted to order had to go to the other counter. Wish I could just order in one spot.
I got a cup of lobster bisque and an order of baked clams. Hubby got a dozen raw clams and he wanted to try something else other than just the clams, so he got the fish and chips. The little one got a grilled cheese with fries. The clams were amazing….hubby should have just got 2 dozen of those and stayed away from the fish and chips. The fries were standard, nothing special, and the fish was perfectly fried, but lacked flavor. The grilled cheese was good, but again just your standard sandwich, can't really screw it up.
Okay, on to me. The bisque was tasty. The color threw me a little. Bisque is usually a thick and pink, but this was more on the red side and tasted of tomatoes a little bit. It didn't taste like a true bisque to me, but it wasn't bad at all.
Baked clams….ah, the baked clams. This dish alone is why I gave it 2 stars. I couldn't even eat a second one in the order. While it was cooked exactly the way I like (nice crisp under the broiler), it was filled to the brim with mostly bread crumbs. I took one bit and really hated it. They were EXTREMELY fishy, and had a weird taste. I thought maybe it was just me, but asked the hubby to taste the one I started eating, and he agreed. He said maybe it was just that one, and braved through a bite of the second and said it 'wasn't as bad as the first'. I myself couldn't brave through another one. Way, way, way too fishy, which I don't understand because the raw clams were not fishy at all and way too much bread crumbs.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was in this place. The menu is huge, so maybe they should cut back and just stick to what they do well. This place is always packed, so I know the raw bar is so much better than the food.
As far as the restaurant itself, it has been through a major overhaul and I love what they have done. It is really a comfy place to go and sit and enjoy some beer for me and clams for the family.
Came here for the first time in a long time! And wow what a difference post Sandy!it's so much better!first of all, the updated renovation was sorely needed and it's so much more enjoyable now, the views are pretty good if you can get out of your mind that there used to be a garbage dump back there, But I digress..the boats and calm water can be tranquil ,onto the service,we had a great waitress she was so sweet and friendly and kept checking to make sure we were OK, I wish I would've gotten her name but the entire staff were extremely accommodating , now the meal,my friends and I went all in and ordered 2 dozen little neck clams on the half shell, fried calamari traditional & buffalo style , baked clams, the much talked about lobster grilled cheese and lobster rolls! littlenecks were nice and fresh, fried calamari was perfectly fried up and also fresh and the buffalo style had some nice kick to it! Baked clams were perfectly breaded and fantastic ,The lobster grilled cheese should come with an angioplasty lol but it was still really tasty as were the golden french fries,And my friends seem to enjoy their humongous lobster rolls, we washed everything down with some Montauk summer ale & look forward to going back soon with the wifey! Well done Peters well done!
