Pete's (is the guy with the blue eyes Pete?) establishment makes a missable Gyro. I get a pang in my heart/stomach when I crave a Gyro and realize I am 2500 miles away from Pete's.
Back to the Gyros: They are huge and almost too much for my wee hands to handle, but I enjoy a challenge. I always ask for extra tzatziki sauce because it is that good.
A trip to the island is not complete unless a Pete's gyro is involved.
I went for lunch with a co-worker. We wanted to get falafel and decided to try Pete's Pitaria. Typical selection for a Greek place. The music was rather loud. Our waitress seemed to be more interested in the other customers, who all seemed to be regulars. We ordered the falafel platter $10.65 (a little pricey). The falafel tasted good buy the portion size was 5 pieces but they were not balls but rather small ovals. A little disappointed. The hummus was good as was the salad which was a mixture of tomatoes, onions and lettuce. For the prices that they charge you should be able to pay with a credit card. Too bad because when it first opened I was pleasantly surprised. How times change.
I am going to try to get falafel from either Ayhan's, Greek Town or Gyro Boss just to compare.
I have been passing this place by for years, turns out I wasn't missing much. I ordered baba ghanoush, and a falafel platter. The baba ghanoush was watery which made it a little unappetizing. The falafels were nice and crispy, but they were a bit spicier than I like. The Israeli salad that came with the falafel was way too plain. I would choose Abe's Pitaria in Long Beach over this place any day.
Great local Greek restaurant for your Gyro desire.
Delicious Spinach pie & generous portions on the gyro (and other) platter. Pete's is your typical
Comfort Greek food. Nothing fancy just delicious old fashioned Greek delicacies. Whatever I've had (or the family alphas had) is usually hot and tasty.
There is room in the restaurant to sit and dine in. Nothing fancy as far as decor , but it's mostly a take-out joint. Everyone working in the restaurant seems very friendly.
Nothing to complain about meanwhile nothing to brag about. Just a good spot to satisfy your Greek tastebuds.
