Ok, I'm pretty upset. All I wanted was some Balut. I wanted to cook that Balut for this girl whose Visa's expiring soon & she has to return to Vietnam. I come in here last Monday. They ran out & assured me they'll have it by Thursday noon. That's good because I planned on cooking for her at 2. That gives me plenty of time to pick it up, drop it off at my house, & pick her up.
The fated day comes & guess what? Their shipment is late. Ok, how late? They don't know. Surely, they could've called their delivery people… nope. I don't know if they could've but I do know they didn't bother.
This was pretty important to me; I hate making promises & not being able to keep them. I let her down & I felt like an absolutely shitty person. Great, this is her last impression of me before going back home.
A little disappointed with this place as they are not quite as well stocked as other Asian stores in Chinatown that carry Filipino products. But it's handy to have not far from my apartment for when I want ingredients for halo-halo. 🙂
It was good. Not huge, but a fun selection and great prices.
my quest for filipino food (specifically, pork tocino) brought me here. the store isn't as small as some yelpers mentioned, there's about 3 aisles filled with filipino sauces, mixes, snacks etc. on the side is a small selection of produce and prepared foods, breads in the front, and a small meat case in the back.
upon my filipina friend's recommendation, i got cheese flavored clover chips (thought it was ok), a pound of pork tocino, and a baked chicken empanada (very sweet, not sure if that's how it's supposed to be). the pork tocino is made from pork shoulder (aka. pork butt, hence it has a good amount of meat/fat). it's well-seasoned and it went well with my garlic rice and fried eggs. homemade tocilog FTW!
A small Filipino grocery but with lots of Filipino snacks, ready made food & treats. If you're on the mood to cook & need some filipino ingredients then this is the spot! They sell some pandesal too. Its a filipino bread & we usually eat it for breakfast & its so good!
HIDDEN JAM
Come here for some filipino snacks!
Location: Like I said, this place is located on a Filipino and Thai food street where you can find lots of unexpected filipino food here.
This place is small – it does not sell veggies, fruits
This place is enormous – it sells hand-made filipino snacks, and ube ice cream and some other good stuff that I fail to remember their names
Owner is nice
they welcome you
It could be a little bit tight while shopping because some many locals come here to shop
It's cheap
it;s good
it deserves my attention lol
4 star
This small, and jammed Filipino grocery store was for years my spot to pop in whenever I was in the nabe heading to SriPraPhai. The foodstuffs fascinated me, from the chips in exotic flavors to the containers of ube, to the quarts of prepared stews and foods with names I couldn't pronounce. I ogled more than I bought, because I didn't eat or couldn't cook with many of the products. I've always been a fan of their ensaymada, those brioche rolls stuffed with ube or coconut or cheese, highly caloric, definitely enticing. I never passed by without picking up a bread or two, the more jumbo sized the better. After years of not stopping in, I was warmed to see this family grocery store still in its corner in the nabe. And the ensaymada remains delicious. A must for anyone wanting to cook Filipino cuisine.
I have been coming here since I was a teeny tiny tot. They have got everything you need to make that perfect home cooked Filipino meal you've been dying to eat. They also have ready-made dishes like puto, adobo, dinaguan, etc. Great market for your Pinoy needs.
