Pho Bang Restaurant
“Their pho is excellent and they do cook up as delicious a version as you'll find in NYC of my favorite Vietnamese soup, bun bo Hue.”
“I've had their beef pho (Pho Tai), fried spring rolls (Cha Gio), and the sauteed beef cubes with rice (Bo Luc Lac).”
“The salinity of the broth might bring this review down a star, but Phobang makes up for their over-reduced broth with their goi cuon (summer rolls).”

I feel like every time I come here, this place gets worse and worse… I stopped by on a Thursday night around 6 ish PM and it was half full. It took almost a minute to get seated (not right away) because there was no one there to greet or help us.
My friend got the #1 (pho w/ beef) and I got the #15 (pho w/ grilled chicken). This place definitely lost some of their authenticity. The #1 was average but the #15 was definitely below average. The grilled chicken was DRENCHED in oil (gross!!!) and it was basically flavorless. I was shocked because this used to be my favorite dish! I have to say though the pricing here is pretty good. The total for both pho came out to be $15 only.
The service here is below average as well – mainly because their workers are all old people? Nonetheless, I don't think I will be returning as there are better Pho place around Chinatown. Also note this place is CASH ONLY.
Preface: I have an extensive history of Pho exploration. I have tried in every US city I have visited and in Vietnam where it originated. I've also tried it in France and Czech Republic as an accidental finding.
AMBIANCE: family owned restaurant with authentic Vietnamese speaking workers.
LOCATION: tucked down a small street, make sure to keep an eye out or you may miss it. I recommend public transport, but looks to have street parking
SERVICE: typical Vietnamese pho service aka very spotty, if you get lucky and they aren't busy then you get in right away, if not expect some wait because of the inefficiency
FOOD: overall, the broth was good, a good ratio of meat to noodles, but the actual size of portion was unimpressive. The broth was basic and was not horrible, but didn't have anything that made it stand out either.
PRICING: overpriced for a small bowl. Cash only.
Pho-tastic. My family and I decided to try something new and spotted this pho place on Grand Street. Although there is not much to look at in the interior of the restaurant, the food and authenticity was definitely there with plenty of seating for a busy dinner rush. Note this is a cash only place!
We started with a beef roll appetizer which I unfortunately do not know the formal name of but it was delicious. They provided slightly pickled carrots, cucumbers, onion bulbs, lettuce and a fish sauce dressing for wrapping and dipping the beef rolls. At 12.95, there was plenty for sharing among a group.
We then got two extra-large bowls of pho with everything in it. It was shared between three women and it was plenty to fill our tummies. It was delicious, plenty of rice noodles, meats, bean sprouts and basil. I think what makes this place stand out more than some of the other pho places I have had is their soup. Their soup was super flavorful and fragrant. It tasted authentic, light and natural. Not artificial or filled with MSG. Very good quality.
Overall, a great casual dinner experience.
I've been eating for so many years now and I'm still a fan. I love that their food is ALWAYS on point and it's cheap. Also the service is fast and the staff is nice.
My 3 go to dishes are raw beef with pho, grilled pork with pho, and grill pork over rice. If you order any of these 3, you will NOT be disappointed. I especially love their pho because it taste authentic. The broth is perfect, the beef is fresh/yummy, and the noodles are great. I've tried a good amount of different pho places and this is definitely the best. I definitely recommend it here for your pho cravings!
Pretty good Viet restaurant. Serves good pho with a beefy broth. I have no complains here. The meat was fresh and veggies were fresh.
Try the spring rolls! They are done right with that bite of crispness!
Place hates me… I pronounce everything wrong like a stupid white girl. They correct me. They roll their eyes… But nonetheless, I'm still not mad atcha, Pho Bang. They make a killer pho, they have same amazing apps, and you can get extra meatballs… what's not to like?
It's also so cheap. Like beyond cheap. You can't be annoyed bc it's cash only and you can eat for 2 days on $20 each. If you improved your tableside manner, I might just give ya 4 stars bc the food merits it! 😉
Super glad I recently discovered this Vietnamese joint only a few blocks away in my neighborhood. They're cash only but their prices are quite reasonable/affordable so it won't crush your wallet.
I popped by for quick take out and the hostess was super nice and helpful – I opted for the traditional Vietnamese pork and vermicelli noodles. For eight bucks it doesn't get much better than this dish. They gave a heaping mound of noodles which I wasn't able to finish but never hurts to have large portion sizes.
I definitely plan to return!
Very good and cheap local Vietnamese restaurant. No frills here. You get authentic Vietnamese food. Don't expect fancy dinnerware or setting – come here for the food.
We barely beat the rush of people on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm. Our party ordered the fried spring rolls to share. I ordered the grilled pork with rice vermicelli as an entrée and my boyfriend ordered the Pho.
The Vietnamese spring rolls were amazing! Highlight of the night for sure. Although fried, it wasn't greasy. The combo of pork and mushroom was really tasty and the fish sauce that comes with it cooled the rolls off a bit. I got to try the Pho and it was pretty good. No skimping of meat here. They give you a side plate of bean sprouts and basil to add to the Pho. Add in some sauce to your liking for some extra flavor. My boyfriend was super full. The grilled pork and vermicelli came with carrots, radish, and cucumber. The pork was perfectly grilled and the noodles were cooked well.
It is probably one of the better Vietnamese places I've tried on the East Coast.
