Pho Hana

“Vietnamese restaurant but owned by Korean people so it has some Korean dishes, such as spicy rice cake that I love!”

“One benefit of the owners being korean is that every order comes with Kimchee and pickled radish – a must for all Koreans.”

“I really like the phô here, much better than pho 32 (fort lee and palpark as I've tried both).”

  1. This place is just ok I guess, given that there are not many Vietnamese places around, it is hard to compare.

The place is small but very nice and clean. Their food is pretty bad I think.
    1) Pho, if you just google the word "pho"  you would know how a good bowl of pho should look like. Ideally, you should to see a good balance of noodle and meat and a lot of herbs – and, northern style pho has clear broth, but I guess pho with clear broth is rare in the US. Pho from Hana looks extremly unappetizing, it looks like a bowl of fatty pork bone stock, I do not see anything but few pieces of green onion with a couple of slices of beef. Pho does not taste as bad as it look though, but it's not very good either.

    2) Spicy pho, this does not taste like anything. I did not find any pho flavor in the both and the combination of kimchi stew and pho is just wierd. Nice try though …

  2. I've been visiting this restaurant since 2012 and my experiences have been always positive, the service is always efficient and the foods quality are very consistent.  This is a Korean owned Vietnamese restaurant, so don't expect you are going to taste something "authentic", but the tastes of the foods are very good, the portion is very satisfying, this is my go-to pho restaurants when I am craving for pho but don't want to drive to Jersey city.

Stree parking only, don't forget to prepare some quarters for parking use.

  3. This place beats Pho 32 hands down. Not only is the pho better, it's cheaper too! Street parking only, and unfortunately, there isn't too much of it. The restaurant in general is pretty small, and run by Koreans, not Vietnamese. The lunch menu was written in Korean and everyone inside during lunch was Korean.

Had the summer rolls and pho with rare steak and tendon. The summer rolls were FAT. They had a lot more lettuce than I was used to, but they were still pretty good. The pho was good. The broth is not the best, but it was good enough to not need the addition of hoisin and sriracha. Noodles were alright. Garnishes included lime, bean sprouts, jalapenos, and parsley (should've been cilantro). Slices of beef were not rare. They were also a bit overcooked. I like that the tendons came in large chunks and not thin slices.

Service was a bit slow, probably because their English wasn't the best. But this is a good spot if I don't feel like making a drive into Bloomfield or the city.

  4. I should note that I hate pho.  I dont see why everyone raves about and has cravings for it.  I'm not a noodle person.  I hate how the noodles just slop around and throw the sauce/soup onto your shirt.  Then you look like an idiot for the rest of the day because you have soup all over your shirt.  Anyway….

Because a lot of my friends like pho, I ended up coming here.  I ordered the chicken with curry sauce.  It was about $10, and what you get is a lot more than what you expect for that amount.  The chicken was good, the curry was good, and the rice was just rice, but together, it was all good.

The restaurant is pleasant and efficient.  You walk in to see a row of tables stretching far down the restaurant.  The wait staff takes your order, you get your food, and then you leave.  If you need anything, just holler.  Efficient.  Overall a good place if you're looking for a quick dinner.  This place must get busy during lunch.

My dining buddy told me that the pho was above average.

  5. Way better than Pho 32 but it's still a Korean restaurant, so you're not going to have the most authentic vietnamese dining experience. They also serve more Korean dishes than just pho with a number of lunch options under $10 (mostly some type of dish over rice – e.g., spicy bbq squid over rice). I've only been here three times but I know that anytime I really want pho and I'm in NJ, I'll be making a quick stop here.

The broth is rich and you can add the plate of veggies – which includes cilantro (that I absolutely despise). Pho only comes in two sizes – medium and large. I can barely finish the medium.

There's sriracha and oyster sauce for you to add to your pho on every table. I don't know how or where the ritual started, but most Koreans add the sriracha and oyster sauce to the plate of raw onions that's served shortly after you sit – and obviously, the restaurant knows that this is an expected custom of Korean diners eating pho.  Well, it does taste good (better than kimchi when eating pho). I highly recommend.

  6. This is by far not the best Pho ever. But over all i liked it. You cant go wrong for a HUGE HUGE HUGE bowl of LARGE SEAFOOD Pho for $9.50. usually i get the large anywhere i go, but this place gave so much!

The broth didnt have a strong flavor like most Phos do. I was disappointed. The shrimp and muscles were real. However, the squid and crab were imitation. I guess i cant be expecting too much for the price.

As soon as i say down, a large hot glass of green tea was given to me. This was good, most places make you ask but it was there. The service was quick! my appetizers came right out, there were the usual…kimchi…and large onions which is new? and another dish which ive never had before, it was basically a pickled small vegetable that was orange and had a zesty taste to it. It was good, i think i might have liked it more than the kimchi. As soon as i finished one bowl of kimchi the little lady came over with another! i was like damn look at this ninja!

Like i said it wasnt the best, would i come here again? Sure why not. The staff was great, the place is small and quiet and cute. The portions were huge but then again it is koreans serving a dish that isnt their native. oh well.

  7. The place looks non-descript from the street but is nicely decorated inside.  Service is friendly, food came out of the kitchen quickly.  Prices are reasonable.

I had the #9 Pho with beef.  Good broth, good amount of beef, usual sides to customize your soup.  I liked the spicy radish appetizer.  Also had a "Vietnamese Iced Coffee" which to me looked and tasted like an American iced coffee.

I will try it again for more of the menu.

Place was busy at lunch, mostly a Korean crowd given the area.

  8. Had the chance to come here again while visiting a friend, and not as impressed with this place now. The pho was average and had an overabundance of onions that don't really match the taste of the broth. Had the pork katsu, which was just ok. It's still a good deal in terms of the food you get for the price, but many of the specials are still written only in Korean, which poses a barrier. The quality and taste of the food is not as good as I remember and pales in comparison to Binh Duong (my paragon example of solid Viet food). Still a valid option in Northern Jersey, but I'll probably pass from now on.
