Pho Saigon

3.5 stars. Food is good but nothing special… Quite blend. I wish I could give more because service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice and quiet.
If you're in the mood for pho, I'd suggest going to a different place than here. The broth was super salty and the broth came out lukewarm. Typically the broth is supposed to come out hot enough to cook your meat and bean sprouts however my sprouts were still raw by the end of my meal. They also dont give you that much noodles so I was still fairly hungry by the end of it all. I also got the combo pho however, I got 1 piece of tripe in my entire bowl… One good thing about this place was that the actual meat was pretty tender and good. Besides that, I'll probably go back to Obao when I'm craving pho.
Surprisingly there's not many good pho places in NYC as its more Chinese and Japanese food centric. Even the so called pho places are usually owned and operated by Chinese people. I was almost ready to give up on good pho or even decent pho until I found this place. Coincidentally enough, it was only three blocks from where I lived. Obviously California pho is on a different level but in a city hard pressed for Vietnamese, I'm glad I found at least one place.
I am so disgusted right now. The entire evening was pretty much a wash. We came in and sat down at a table in the front to be ignored for at least 15 minutes. We had to flag down a waiter. We ordered the pineapple fried rice, which comes with pork but I asked instead for chicken. I was never told that there would be an up-charge for swapping out one meat for the next since there is clearly the very option on the fried rice without pineapple. We also ordered the crispy shrimp rolls, iced coffee and ginger chicken. The waiter returns with shrimp summer rolls and says they are out of the crispy shrimp rolls–in my mind, this is not what we ordered and he had already put them on the table—they were bland. Bland is not even the word. Then about 30 minutes later dinner came. Again, my fried rice had literally no taste and I do not exaggerate. The pineapple had that tin can taste and shape and again, had no flavor. To make matters worse, when the bill came (again, after we had to flag down the waiter), they up-charged for the crispy shrimp rolls, and they charged me $3.50 for the chicken—it wasn't like the chicken was an add on–it was a swap!!!
I am disgusted because the service was poor and the food was even less redeeming. I will never set foot in here again.
Actually 3-1/2 but the stars cannot get only half a point. The ambience was fine.
I liked the Pork chops but I like the vinegar sauce from other Vietnamese restaurants. This has less flavor. Maybe because they think they are in midtown and have to temper the spices. I like it with a stronger flavor.
They serve promptly. I saw a few people pickup or stop by to order and then pickup while I was eating.
The string beans (this was really green beans – string beans are more fibrous, thinner and longer) in curry and coconut milk was good. At least I know know there is a Vietnamese restaurant in Sutton Place area.
This place is very reasonably priced and convenient for the neighborhood.
I would give the place a solid 3.5. We ordered in and the food came within 30 minutes. I was happy to see the banh cuon to be made out of chicken (it's customarily made with pork – which i don't eat…yes I am a bad Vietnamese person). The outside was thicker than usual and a little tougher but edible.
The goi cun both shrimp and beef were fine. It's really a basic appetizer that you can't go wrong with.
The bo luc lac was fine, of course more catered the American tastes. Still decent.
I didn't try the pho, my friend said it was ok, nothing great.
The pho xao was surprisingly not oily like Pho Bang. I actually liked it.
Their papaya smoothie wasn't the best.
I didn't finish my food feeling like I needed to drink a gallon of water, which was a good thing. I would order here again when I am visitng my friend in Mid-town.
I like their food but their delivery was 45 minutes later than projected. If you're in a rush or hungry, this may be factor in your decision to order from them. When I called the restaurant it was already 1:18. Seamless said my food would arrive by 12:45 but the person at the restaurant said they were busy and that Seamless has set delivery times which don't reflect when they're busy. I asked if 45 minutes was reasonable to wait beyond their estimated time and the woman just repeated they were busy. I said I hope the food won't be cold before hanging up and she must have texted the delivery guy because he didn't even bring the food to me. He left it downstairs and so the food was put on the elevator for me to retrieve so I couldn't even refuse it on the basis the food was cold. Clever. Well, their food is not that good to be put through this. They have lost a customer based on unapologetic and unscrupulous practices. NY has many other good choices and good customer service distinguishes one place from another. Now Pho Saigon has been placed on my "Never Again" list.
I hadn't had pho in years, and I came here with friends without even knowing how to properly eat pho because it had been so long.
It's okay, it doesn't matter how you eat it, what matters is that it's good pho, and the pho here was to die for.
The place was clean and the staff was attentive. They food was really, really good and the portions were crazy big! I left here really happy and I definitely want to return.
The staff was so nice they even split the check, something that not all places do!
