I've been a patron of Piadina for 10 years and eat here several times a month. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Honestly, I never reviewed this place because I didn't want it to get too crowded. Their food is provincial to Rome, more Northern style which has a more minimalist and cleaner palette than Southern Italian that is found in most of NYC. I've been here so many times that I've tried nearly every single item on the menu and they have nice daily specials. All the pasta dishes are excellent. My favorite is the Spinach Gnocchi with tomato and basil, Orechiette with sausage and broccoli rabe. They do really good seasonal daily specials like pasta with spicy clam marinara, duck leg ragu, pumpkin ravioli, etc. All the dishes here use fresh pasta, not dried. The piadina bread is excellent with an assortment of cheeses, hams, salami's. Excellent antipasti, sometimes we will just order an assortment and piadina to just hang out and drink wine for several hours. Very nice Italian dessert selection as well. The entrance is tucked in below a front covered with plantlife, the interior is nice and cozy, a dark woody grotto feel to the space for good conversation, service is very kind and gracious. Remember to bring cash, and there are no reservations under party of 4.
Highly recommended.
I was here for dinner for two. No RSVP, we just walked in during week night. Service was prompt and pleasant. I was happy I came here.
I tried the polenta and cheese dish which was actually tasty and different.
I also had the spaghetti and calamari. I was soo full by the end, I ended up taking left overs home.
We also had a carafe of wine…
Overall well made meal with great company. This is what I love about NYC.
Get to Chase:
Pros:
1) FANTASTIC Pasta! Their Ragu is to-die for! Perfectly Al dente, with a meaty, delicious tomato sauce
2) Great date night restaurant
3) Cozy atmosphere and polite staff
4) Didn't have a problem seating 8 people on a Friday night
Cons:
1) Moderately pricey ($50 spent/person for a group of 8 after some wine, appetizer, main meal and dessert)
2) Desserts were lackluster
Apprehensive to give the 5 stars as I love this little joint and never want it to get too packed!
Great house wines!
Great authentic homemade Italian dishes
Very rustic feel
takes cash only!
Wow! I love stumbling upon this cozy place! This has to be one of my favorite Italian meals I've had in New York! It's so rustic in there. Perfect for a long dinner. We ordered a carafe of white wine and started with the piadina. The one we got was with formaggio cheese, prosciutto and arugula. The flavors were subtle but perfectly enough. We went with the linguine with clams in white sauce and it was phenomenal. The pasta cooked al dente and the clams super fresh and meaty! Light sauce and perfect portion. I love love loved it. This Northern Italian meal wasn't heavy at all. Reminds me of some good times in Italy 🙂
10/10 would return again. Authentic and simple Italian dishes in a quaint little setting — truly a neighborhood gem.
I had one of the daily specials, a delicate cheese ravioli dish in a sage butter sauce. My friend had the garganelli in a cream sauce with ham and peas which was delicious and surprisingly not too rich.
We sat on the patio, which is an extremely generous term considering the makeshift area out front sits exactly two people. Still, for an early dinner on a warm September night it was a perfectly pleasant experience. Well, minus the gentle dousing of air conditioning water we were met with when paying the bill, but at least that didn't happen while we we were eating.
Our potential brush with legionnaire's disease plus the cash only nonsense pushes me to give Piadina four stars instead of five.
Got served some garlic bread with olive oil to start. It was good.
Had a special which was Tagliatelle with Veal Ragout. I think it was 18 dollars not including tax/tip.
The Ragout was delicious and the portion was perfect for a late dinner. Pasta was perfectly al dente.
Waiters were nice. Place itself was very cozy.
Cash only, moderate sized wine menu, mostly bottles.
I can't begin to guess how many times I've walked by this place, not knowing it was there, yet alone it was an Italian restaurant. Searching, and finding it via Yelp one day was surprising and funny to me. I'm so glad I finally came!
Really cute interior here, with silverware dangling from the ceiling, it has a very eclectic-country vibe. Also, everything is pretty much handwritten in here, down to the specials list and signs that say you must be 21 or older to drink alcoholic beverages. It really just adds to the chill, low-key, vibe it has going.
My friend and I shared a few items:
– Asparagus with Prosciutto & ricotta cheese (YUM!)
– Green Papardelle with meat sauce (OMG! This was a special)
– Chicken filled with broccoli rabe, sundried tomato and fontina cheese (Delish!)
We also shared a lovely, reasonably priced house wine which was tasty.
The service was good, our water was constantly filled, but when we needed the check, it took a while. (It's usually the opposite, no?)
The only downfall I can think of is that it's cash only. I hate cash only! Get with the century and get a credit card machine. At least I knew beforehand. If I hadn't I would've definitely been mad.
I do really think this place will continue to remain a secret given that it's near nothing but homes on West 10th Street, but I definitely would come back. Good date spot, dark and intimate.
