  1. They are known for their signature velvet cakes, not just red velvet (which I am not a fan of). There are many different velvet and frosting flavors. My absolute favorite is the lemon velvet.
The slices are huge enough to share, one usually does it for me and my kids or is enough for a two day treat!

Free samples allow you to decide what you are indulging in and try a flavor if you have a hard time breaking away from the normal, like me! Puddings and ice creams round out the sweet treats. Surely there is something for everyone to enjoy.

  2. Very rich large pieces of cakes! The frosting is rich, sweet and creamy. The cake itself is soft; the texture is great. I had the red velvet and strawberry flavors. I took off one star because it is too rich for me lol. But the pieces are worth the price. I personally love the cupcakes a lot better. They are small and delicious. The red velvet cupcakes are delish! Also the employees are nice!

  3. As we were walking back to the car from Habana Outpost I noticed this bright red sign in front of a tiny storefront. The sign said "Piece of Velvet" and I immediately got excited. It was perfect time for dessert and had heard good things about their signature "velvet" cake slices.

We noticed a small but legible chalkboard that read "Free Samples!!". That was the icing on the cake for me! I walked in to an array of colorful, velvety, humongous slices in their display cases that looked delicious. I couldn't make up my mind but I knew I definitely wanted to try a few samples. The cashier wasn't too excited about my excitement for samples but she provided them accordingly. The red velvet oreo frosting sample I had was stale from the cake being out all day, but I can't understand that it was 9pm.

I ended up getting their pineapple velvet slice for $6, which was a bit expensive in my opinion. The slice was huge though, had to be about a 2"-2 1/2" 3-layer slice (enough for two to share). The cake was very moist with a nice crumb and the icing was good! Fluffy and sweet but not overpowering, I enjoyed it. I didn't get the pineapple flavor much, very sparingly in between the layers.

I would love to come back and try their alcohol infused slices.

  4. I would consider myself an incredibly discerning cake consumer.  The caramel velvet slice at Piece of Velvet was some of the best cake I've had in awhile.  The cake was moist and had a lovely caramel flavor.  The icing was not overwhelmingly sweet and enhanced the cake nicely.  Cannot wait to return to try some of the alcohol slices :)!!

  5. Very yummy moist cake! I had the red velvet with Oreo frosting and the strawberry vanilla bourbon. Both very really good!

  6. I've heard so many people talk up this red velvet cake and I gotta say, I wasn't really that impressed. The flavor of the cake was totally lacking. The icing was just ok. The cake was a bit dry. There are better places, I wouldn't go here for cake honestly. The service was wonderful and the people who work there are very friendly. The prices are high for such mediocre cake.

  7. Ehhh the cake here is mediocre at best. A sweet young girl came outside and gave me samples which lured me in but I am disappointed with what I had. I ordered a pound cake with chocolate frosting and although it was moist it tasted generic. I could have sworn the chocolate frosting was from the supermarket.

  8. Ok. I finally got around to having a piece of lemon velvet cake here and I'm a little disappointed. I think I was sold one of wed-Fri slices, because it was dry as all hell, no velvet here friends.  I'm sad because I was rooting for these folks and the first time I went by the lemon wasn't there yet, so I snagged the red velvet cupcakes (which were pretty tasty).  I will wait until everyone is getting fat again to try this spot again…. there were no samples either, I could've make an well informed decision.  For now, this cake with get a spritzin' of rum!
