Ok so without my friend's convincing of how amazing this little place is, I probably would have never visited the neighborhood or this gem of a place. It was a late evening and after an art gala and with out of town friends, we decided to to take his advice and try some Senegalese cuisine. Not familiar with the food, we let our friend recommend and order for the group. For a party of 4, we ordered two orders of Grilled lamb Chops (dibi) with sides of plantains and couscous. Where do I even begin as to describe the flavors of these chops…. forget the 5 star expensive restaurants, these chops were so juicy and tender, i was quick to throw the fork away and simply dug myself in with bare hands and enjoyed the flavorful and cooked to perfection meal. The sides were equally amazing and one must ask for the house-made mayo and hot sauce to complete meal.
I cannot praise this place enough for the service, friendliness and welcoming hospitality. I became not only a fan of this little haven but Senegalese food itself. Look fwd to returning and trying other menu items. Oh and try the Sorel drink….
Best service at a west African restaurant in New York.
The dibi lamb with plantains was great but I made a mistake because Senegalese food is all about the fish. My girlfriend got the grilled tilapia and it was excellent. Don't get me wrong, the lamb was good. But the fish is worth traveling there for.
They seem to run out of dishes by dinner time so just be aware that the whole menu may not be available. Reasonable prices, great food, very clean, nice seating. Very good and prompt service!! This place is one of many great west African options in Harlem but had the best service of any of the similar places I had been. We were promptly asked for our order and then served within what seemed like only ten minutes
