Came here on a Friday after work for happy hour with my co workers, happy hour here is from 3-6pm and the prices are great, domestic beers are $3, draft beers are $4 and their sangria is $5 (super strong too), appetizers are $5 each or 3 for $11, I mean you can't beat these prices and the food is really good and servings are good, I must give a special shoutout to the truffle fries, wow are they amazing. The bar area itself is pretty small but I do like the decor, there are plenty of tables upstairs and downstairs to sit and eat. They do have a rooftop bar but it was raining when we went, I do like this spot and would come back if in the area for sure
Great place to grab dinner if you're in the area. I was glad to have this spot when I was staying at the Residence Inn Bronx down the street for work. Everything is tasty and reasonably priced. Portions often big enough for 2 meals. Great service.
I really like the pasta fagiole soup and the chimichurri flank steak (which actually tasted even better as leftovers).
Definitely better than 3 stars!!
We loved our visit for brunch so much we have booked the place to celebrate our wedding celebration. Staff was really sweet and the food was delicious. Prices are so much cheaper here for brunch in comparison to any city brunches. This place is huge and in the summer has a roof top deck bar. Awesome sauce!
Met up with friends here. Actually I'm here right now. It has a nice rooftop. Didn't spend much time indoors but it seemed clean and nice as well. It's Thursday so it's ladies night and the drinks are cheap. Got 2 drinks for $10 (sangria and a mojito). The sangria was written on the menu to have patron, but since it was happy hour, think I got gypped. Got what I paid for. The service wasn't amazing, but one of my friends says she usually gets a hook up. I didn't order with the table got my drinks from the bar since I wasn't eating. At the end the table got the bill and a lot of things taken off. It's one of those they take care of you spots especially if you're a regular. I probably won't back, because I don't frequent the Bronx, but if you're in the area check it out. The drinks were decent and the food looked good even though I didn't partake.
The Pine Bar & Grill is the hip, cooler cousin of F&J Pine Restaurant in nearby Van Nest. While the latter is more of a traditional Italian restaurant, Pine Bar & Grill aims to be more of a bar and lounge while still offering a full dining menu.
Pine is located in a mainly industrial and commercial area of Eastchester Road; there are two hospitals close by plus a number of auto repair shops, medical offices, and the Hutchinson Metro Center (which houses a Hilton, LA Fitness, Applebee's, and more medical offices). As such, you see a number of professionals after work at the Pine socializing and having a drink.
Walking in you're greeted with a large bar and a few high-tables, with more dining space in the back. Upstairs, there's more dining space and a room for private parties. There's also a rooftop lounge which I didn't get a chance to experience. The decor is very nice – mainly neutral, dark wood tones offset by white tablecloths. There's low lighting indicative of an intimate/lounge atmosphere, but the acoustics are loud.
The menu has solid Italian offerings but nothing too outstanding. I was here for an educational dinner so we had a fixed menu, but I've ordered takeout from them a few times so I knew what to expect. They started us with some apps; my favorite was probably the spare ribs – fall off the bone meat with a sweet glaze. Their fried calamari was okay, though I've tasted better. For my pasta course I had the farfalle alla vodka and for my main I had the shrimp scampi which came with mixed veggies and potato croquette. The food is good, just not overly exciting.
For me, I see Pine as a good place to go after work for drinks with colleagues and to unwind and snack on a few apps; the food is good but if you're in it for some serious eating action I feel you can do better, especially in this area of the Bronx. They offer brunch on the weekends which I definitely would be open to trying, but I'm not running back here for dinner.
So, my first few times at Pine were great. The last few times? Not so much. The second to last time my husband and I came here together I ordered the sesame crusted tuna and wasabi mashed potatoes again. I was so excited because it was SO delicious the first time. I asked for it to be cooked medium, however, once it arrived, the tuna was damn near raw. I told the waiter and had him take it back. After a few minutes I got it back from him with a snarky remark about it being put in the oven. And because it was put in the oven it was now overcooked and rubbery. I was not pleased. The wasabi mashed potatoes also had blue-green specks, which to me seemed like whatever they use in the potatoes wasn't properly mixed in, making it look less than appetizing. We'd also ordered the crispy calamari and it wasn't too great either. It was just as rubbery as the tuna and the only crispy part of the whole thing was the peanuts on top. I was quite disappointed. It was also very hard to find our waiter whenever we wanted something. I left hungry and annoyed and contemplated never coming back.
However, a friend of mine wanted to try the place out about a month later so I found myself back here, this time on the rooftop. So almost immediately things were weird. One waitress came and we started with one fish taco appetizer, but we made it clear to her that we were going to be ordering more. Well after waiting for quite some time, another waitress came over, and was seemingly displeased about the fact that another waitress had taken our order before. Seems like someone took someone's table. I don't know. Either way, it took forever for the tacos we originally ordered with the first waitress to come out, while other things that we ordered afterwards were starting to arrive at our table. For my meal I'd ordered a burger and it was just okay. It wasn't at all special and for a place like Pine I was expecting a great burger.
I don't know what happened to the quality experience I had the first couple times I came here, but the service and the food have become seriously unimpressive.
Went here for happy hour with some work colleagues and made use of their rooftop patio and seating in beautiful summer weather. The happy hour included plenty of beverage options including mojitos for $5, but no food specials. Unfortunately, you can only order happy hour specials at the bar, not when you are seated at a table. The traditional calamari was good, but the margarita pizza tasted a bit off to me. So 4.5 stars for rooftop and ambiance and 3 stars for food. Overall a nice restaurant for the Bronx and good place to go with friends and coworkers.
Came here to see the space for a private event and ended up having lunch. I thought the service was good and all of the dishes we ordered were great! We ordered the pasta e fagioli, fried calamari, paella, simple salad and Cajun salmon. I think their brunch menu is lacking in choices but their full menu has everything! The manager was also very friendly when explaining the private event menus to us.
