  1. You know when you go to a Chinese Restaurant to get your fix? Well thats what me and two people did.  We wanted to dim sum, so we called ahead since it was dinner.  They said yes, they have dim sum. We head there, it was menu only dim sum… oook fine.

We ordered pan fried noodle, duck, some dim sums and also salt and pepper pork chop. The pork chop was mainly breading, no meat at all.  The noodle came late, the gravy wasn't that good.  We left with leftovers but it just didn't hit the spot.  We went to Roosevelt Ave after to get more things to eat.

The service was really good.  Try at your own risk or go somewhere else.

  2. Recommended by a friend!

WHAT WE ATE: Complimentary Roasted Peanuts, Clams with black bean sauce (appetizer), Baby Greens (side dish) , Rice noodles in XO sauce (appetizer), and Egg Rolls with Sweet Mayonnaise (appetizer)

My friend loved the free peanuts, it's lightly coated with salt.
The clams with black bean sauce come on a hot sizzling plate, I got hit trying to take a picture. It's one of those plate, you kind of have to wait for it to cool down.

The Baby Greens were standard Chinese vegetable! It's good to have to get your daily servings of vegetable.

The egg rolls was filled with imitation crab-like meat textured. They were crunchy on the outside and so delicious with the sweet mayonnaise.

The service was great! Our waters would always be full, and when we dirtied up our small plates with empty clams shells, they would replace it with clean new plate. They probably could have given us a bowl to stack it ourselves.

Great for large parties, they blast a birthday song on the speakers and the waiters clap around you.

I would Re-Return for this restaurant. *HIMYM reference*

  3. At first impressions, I'd give them maybe two stars. I wasn't very impressed with everything. I picked out a few staples of dim sum on that first solo visit and thought they were just okay. Many dishes felt bland or it just tasted a bit off, either in texture or flavor. Not that it wasn't fresh, just not up to par.

I keep coming back because I live in Ridgewood, an area with horrible Chinese-American food (many of them are Chinese-American Tex-Mex spots…yeah . . . all-in-one) and no authentic Chinese food whatsoever! My choices for pushcart dim sum are to take a couple of trains into Chinatown or ride the bus for an hour into Flushing. This is as good as it gets for as close as it gets. And it grew on me, maybe for lack of better options, but I still kinda like it now. I've been bringing my boyfriend in and he kinda likes it too. Granted, it is the ONLY pushcart dim sum joint he has been to in all of New York, but still, it satisfies.

  4. Dim sum was not very good and selection poor. No shrimp dumpling (har gow)? No XLB? Beef chow fun was a bit dry and bland.

Understand this may be a convenient option for locals, which is why we came, but I wouldn't come back.

  5. Pings used to be my where I'd take friends or my parents would have family gatherings, but that was over 10 years ago. Quality and cleanliness has gone downhill quite some time ago, change of management didn't really seem to help. This would still be the ideal location for my parents' weekly dim sum with our relatives but they'd rather head over to the ones on broadway.
The last time I sampled their food was years ago, when my parents picked up a couple of dishes for a family gathering out of convenience. It was so bland and the portions was so small…
I'm glad they're finally opening some dim sum spots on Broadway since my parents still have dim sum on the weekends with relatives. For me, dim sum is more of a once a year "treat"? though when "Ping's" used to be good and I lived only a few minutes away, I did eat it more often.
Whenever I'm in the area, if I pass by I always take a look through the window and it's always pretty empty…

  6. If you're living in along queens blvd there's pretty limited authentic chinese restaurants. You got this and the other one on Broadway. Pings is pretty overpriced for the food they have… but they won't mess it up. The most interesting dish I've had there was the crispy duck/almond dish.

  7. I love this location, it is right on Queens Blvd. and has valet parking with a discount to $2.00 if you get the parking stub validated in the restaurant.

This restaurant serves dim sum as well as your regular Chinese fare.  I love coming here with my mom for dim sum on weekends especially since the food taste good, good service and of course parking.

They of course serve the traditional dim sum so you can expect a full belly when you are done.  In fact I even think it is equal to if not better than what you can get in Flushing or NYC Chinatown without having to fight through traffic or try finding paid parking in Flushing.

it is a decent sized restaurant and can accommodate larger groups but come early is the best to avoid waiting.  We had eaten dinner here in the past and were not disappointed.  Well worth a visit especially if you live near the area.

We will continue to visit especially if you sum up all the positives.

  8. Pings in Elmhurst has definitely gone from excellent to mediocre.  Maybe this is due to the increase in food costs or trying to make more money which you can't blame them on.  But the quality of the food and the portions have gotten much smaller.

So what did we get – various food from the standard menu, but when ordered the portions seemed a lot smaller than what they used to serve.  While the food was served hot and fast the flavor wasn't as good as it had been in the past.  I used to frequent Pings years ago and always had great food, but the quality of the food declined.

At the very best 3 stars.  If they can make their food tastier, then i can understand the portion size…but unfortunately – the food wasn't up to the previous par and they've cut the portion sizes down.
