I would prefer to give this place a 3.5 out of 5 stars but chose to round down since I felt like I spent an arm an a leg for slighty above-average tapas.
I love the venue although I would prefer to sit in the bar area than the back.
Service was ok although I felt like I had to flag down the waiter whenever our table needed something. There wasn't even that many people in the restaurant so for a waiter not to ever check up on his table is inexcusable.
We had a bunch of tapas and they were all good but nothing extraordinary.
The star of this place was most definitely their sangria. I'm not sure what they put in it but it was fantastic.
This place is great for a date or a small group but I don't think I can justify paying tons of money to come here often especially when there are other places with better food and prices.
June 2015. Still excellent. Wine by bottle – Spanish selections – very reasonable – 27 – 36 per bottle for very nice picks. Tapas excellent. Comfy atmosphere and good servers.
Great spot for a group of friends. Red Sangria was very good as were the tapas dishes we tried: chorizo w/ onion, patatas aioli, crab salad stuffed into avocados, shrimp and garlic, tapas fritos, and fried soft shell crab. We were carnivores last night so we all ordered the churrasco (skirt steak), which was lightly marinated – the small side of vinegar-based dipping sauce was a perfect complement to the flavor of the meat. No dessert – we had to run to catch a show at the Bergen PAC, which was conveniently a block away. Great night. Our second visit here and we'll likely visit again. Note: last night was pretty quiet but the place can get very loud.
5 stars for their Sangria and Vinergarette Mussels….to-die-for!!!
The Chilean Sea Bass, muy bueno (very good), but costs too much (approx. $30) for the portion they give you. You would be better buying and preparing yourself. The Paella, super lip smacking Salty! Crab claws, Awesome!
Pretty much everything is tasty…
The only con I can think of…is…it's too dimly lit for me. It sorta puts you to sleep, you are gonna need a shot to get you back on you feet when leaving this place. The food hits on the bed button after you're done here. And that's not a bad thing.
First things first their sangria is off the hook! Grab yourself a pitcher before you do anything.
The tapas here are fresh flavorful and authentic. I have had the pleasure of trying the Caracoles which is escargot with garlic, parsley and olive oil, the Croquetas de Bacalao which are cod fish croquettes ( my favorite ) crunchy exterior with a soft interior perfectly paired. The empanadas are really tasty I have tried the beef and they have great flavor.
When you order an entree they all usually come with either soup or salad and both of them are really delicious. I find it had deciding between the two and I usually get the salad and steal some of my boyfriends soup.
I always get the paella valenciana for my entree.. Its just too good to pass up. Clams, mussels, shrimp, lobster, chicken and Spanish chorizo in saffron rice how do you go wrong with all of that? I like to use the fresh potato chips they make as a scoop to eat my paella.
I need to have a much needed girls night here ASAP!
They serve Spanish food, but I don't think they ever had real Spanish food. The service is ok, I got confused with the waiter when he served "Spanish omelette"… Spanish omelette? Really? For tortilla? Oh dear…
Then, the soup of the day was… "garlic". Yes, garlic soup. I've worked in a Spanish restaurant before, I've even worked in Spain before, and never heard about that. Tip of the week: garlic soup is unnecessary and gross.
Then the paella… Long rice, fluffy… They have no idea on how to prepare a paella. The flan was good as a desert, but after all those disappointments…
From Saturday October 10, 2015
Came here around 9:30 pm on a Saturday night, it was very busy at the bar area, we were seated in the dining room, about 5 other parties were eating so it wasn't super busy. The atmosphere is similar to an upscale Manhattan vibe in the bar area, and the dining room is more of a romantic date night. It's a little dark but overall nice atmosphere.
We started off with a pitcher of red sangria. They were kind of cheap with the fruit in the sangria. We had a few small chunks of apple and 4 small slices of oranges, but the sangria was very good & STRONG! Not too sweet and made from REAL red wine. So at $22 a pitcher it was worth it.
For dinner my boyfriend ordered from the specials menu. He had the chicken cordon bleu, which was a very generous portion. Specials come with a large bowl of soup and your choice of vegetable or potato. He opted for the Spanish potato (which are pretty much potato chips) he said the chicken was good, but not GREAT.
I chose the filet of sole stuffed with crabmeat. I loved the red sauce that came with the fish. The fish was very good but again.. Not great. I ordered vegetables for my side, cauliflower, green beans & broccoli steamed in a butter sauce which was excellent. Around $26 for my meal & $17 for my boyfriends.
Soup came with both of our meals. I asked our waiter what kind of soup it was, he mumbled something and walked away… It had potatoes and chorizo in it. The soup was good but Im not a soup lover so I didn't finish it.
After 3 small glasses of sangria I was toasted and we couldn't finish the pitcher. The pitcher is for a party of 4+ I would say lol.
Our waiter was friendly but lacked personality. He wasn't very personable, always in a rush… I hate feeling rushed when out to dinner. The manager and other wait staff were friendly.
Overall we had a nice date night, but idk if I would come back here.
Order any of the seafood or tapas specials. Even those are just decent. Do not order any meat dishes, as they aren't good. I ordered the broiled shell steak medium well, which came out charred on the outside and drier than sand on the inside. $32 for a steak and I didn't bother finishing it. In fact, I only ate a fifth of it, which as a self-proclaimed pseudo-carnivore, I never thought I'd ever do. First unfinished meat dish of my whole life. The cut of the meat itself wasn't of the highest quality either.
The decor is very nice and seems legit. The service was very good, and the waiter was very helpful and patient. Other than that though, the food is just passable. I don't think I'd come here again.
There was a Zagat choice sticker on the front door of the place, but I noticed that the sticker was 3 years old. No updates.
