Pizza & Brew Scarsdale

“It reminds me of a good old fashioned pizza joint from my youth (says the girl born in the 80s).”

“The chicken parm was good, a 7.5 out of 10, only thing I would change is I like it when the cheese on top is browned a little.”

“I was ready to dance from hearing the Kiss, Queen and Michael Jackson songs in background during lunch on Black Friday!!!”

  1. Don't like how my negative review from 2-3 years ago was removed here.  I will leave it at 3 stars but my visit a few years ago was incredibly bad.  This was before the remodel, when the place was still that train caboose that brought me back to my childhood days when we would have birthday parties there, and you walked into all of the desserts in the revolving glass up front.   10 years ago they made the best classic cheese pie with fresh pineapple topping.     After my last visit, I was upset the pizza was entirely different, and other entree was bad, so never returned.  But seeing that things have changed, I will return.  For a take-out pie.  Think I will be too sad seeing the re-model and the old P&Brew interior from the '80s gone.  I'm weird/nostalgic like that.

  2. I haven't been to Pizza and Brew since they remodeled. I was never crazy about it in the past, but decided to give it a chance. My boyfriend and I went a few nights ago and I was pleased with the atmosphere of the place. For a chain restaurant, it is very cozy and has an intimate vibe. There is a bar area and dining area, like most restaurants have.

We started off getting two appetizers. The fried calamari and mozzarella sticks. The fried calamari was actually very good. Small portioned for an appetizer but it was good. They were crispy and not too fishy. The mozzarella sticks were also delicious. I know they aren't hard to mess up but trust me I've been to places where the cheese on the inside was missing or not gooey enough. Both of the appetizers including the bread given on the table were tasty and I would order again.

Now on to the entrees, which are pretty expensive here. I ordered the shrimp scampi. It was huge! Very big portioned. The shrimp tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. However, the pasta was just meh. It wasn't seasoned well and it was nothing to talk about. It was definitely edible and good. Just not worthwhile and I probably wouldn't order again honestly. My boyfriend ordered the fettuccine alfredo. He loved it. However, he isn't Italian so he doesn't really know good pasta haha. I tried his, it was a little better than how mine tasted but I was impressed with that either.

Overall, I enjoyed my Pizza and Brew experience. Next time I will definitely stay way from ordering a pasta entree but overall the food was pretty good.

  3. This place has been playing patty-cake games with some Westchester folks -including me and I don't like it. Way back when, they were Pizza & Brew. Then about 2 or 3 years ago "they" remodeled it to the 10th octave and it looks amazing. Along with the coolfulness, the name changed to Racanelli's. What you get now, has no comparison to what it looked like then: it's fresh, its serene with neutral colors and stone walls.

But wait! There's more…..After the remodeling, they went back to calling themselves Pizza & Brew. WTF! I don't know why, and at this point, I pretty much don't care.

I've come for dinner at this" establishment" (I don't even know what to call it) and honestly, it is pretty much run-of-the-mill for me. I came for Brunch with my family and from what I saw, it seems as if they have a mishmash of items:

The Good: Margherita Pizza, mixed green salad with balsamic vinaigrette,- das it!

The Bad: Mimosas(too much orange juice and probably a drop of champagne), lemon chicken, pasta(too hard and dry-no taste at all)and the eggs, lacked salt.

The Ugly: Absolutely no chocolate pastries whatsoever. Damnnn, I was not a happy camper… And Boy was I b*tchy.

Granted, my family did have Brunch late in the day, and perhaps they did replenish some trays way before we got there, but no reason to serve mediocre food!

Will I come back for Brunch? Oh please no! It's not an abundant spread, but kind of served its purpose to some people – just not me.

  4. Pizza & Brew is one of those restaurants that's ingrained in one's childhood memories – I remember going to many a birthday party there as a kid, and my mother even remembers going there with her youth group in high school. The restaurant is owned by the Racanelli family, who own a string of restaurants in Westchester. I've never been impressed with any of Racanelli's restaurants I've dined in, but Pizza & Brew gets kudos for most improved.

Up until a few years ago, this place was really the pits – the food was bland, the service was eh, and the interior was tired and old. I remember dining here right before the remodel and it literally looked the exact same as when I was a child – and not in the good way. However, they gutted it and started fresh and honestly they did a great job. More reminiscent of a pizza place, the restaurant has low lighting, exposed brick, a large bar, music playing, TV screens, and a more open dining room than before.

Food is an improvement but still just okay. The menu is the definition of no frills Italian (albeit kind of boring). All the classics are there, and a nice feature is all their pizzas can come individual or standard-sized. The bread basket contained seasoned focaccia bread, though no olive oil for dipping. This most recent visit I had the salad pizza – it was tasty but I'm not a fan of their marinara sauce.

Service was good, the only hiccup was my pizza came out way later than the dishes other people in my party ordered. They need to work on synchronization with getting the pizza out the same time the regular dishes come out. This seems to be a problem in a few restaurants I've been to – what's with that?

You can do better than Pizza & Brew, but then again you can definitely do worse. It's a casual place to go for dinner or even to hang out at the bar – just expect average food.
