A fairly new spot has open! Thought I try it out ! If your into experimental fusion types of food. I would recommend this spot ! It's basically Asian/Italian. As given from the name. The whip cream honey fries was very interesting… I can't really put my finger on it. It's just one of those types that you don't like em, but you don't hate em either. The pizza wasn't anything of amazing. I do recommend the garlic knot crust though! Just be warned if your in a rush to get food or to pay the bill. You patience will wear out! But, if you want to sit there and chit chat all night. This is a place for you! There is a lot for parking which is free! But, if you drive a nice car. Prepare for battle scars! As for prices. it was slightly over price for pizza and fries… But, that's expected if you go into most Korean spots.
Pizza Maru is an interesting spin on a pizza. If you've been sucked into the Kpop wave, chances are you probably stumbled upon those videos of kpop stars eating Korean style pizza/chicken either in dramas/advertisements. So when I first heard about a Korean Pizzeria, you bet I got excited. Pizza maru is located on northern blvd around the murray hill/broadway area. It's across from the IHOP and near the queens county savings bank.
The ambiance is amazing and the environment is very clean, there's a bar located towards the front door and a huge palm tree(?) smack down in the center of the restaurant. The place blasts kpop music and the TVs shows Kpop MVs (kpop enthusiasts will feel right at home here) and sometimes sports. There is ample seating and the waitresses use their phones to take down orders.
I've ordered from them a few times (both take out and dine in). So for food…
1. Bulgogi pizza on the menu it states it has bulgogi pieces, canadian ham, onion and red onion, extra cheese and peppers. First bite was very interesting, and I immediately noticed they use a sweet barbecue sauce instead of tomato sauce.
2. Kalbi pizza on the menu it has onion and red onion, mushrooms, kalbi pieces, extra cheese and peppers. I got this as take out and I'm not sure if the kitchen messed up but I also got ham on my pizza.
3. Gold garlic wings delicious for the first few bites, but I found it to be very sweet.
4. Crispy Fried chicken I ordered this because they ran out of the crispy vegetable fried chicken. Despite getting this chicken as take out, it remained very crispy and not soggy. The texture reminds me of pop eyes.
5. Kalbi Kimchi Pasta…rather disappointed theres not much kalbi pieces, kimchi is diced into small pieces and pasta is coated in a spicy tomato sauce. This wasn't worth the price.
6. Rose cream pasta (?) I didn't try this pasta personally, but someone in my party had it and also said it was worth the price. Portions of the pasta is quite small for the price.
7. Ice Tea came in those trending mason glass mugs (my advice is to get water instead, it was at least $3-$4)
Overall, when I want something different from the typical pizza I would order from here, for Korean fried chicken I would look elsewhere, avoid the pastas because they're not worth the price. Take out packaging is very well made (pizza box/chicken box). Pizza Maru didn't entirely live up to my expectations. Parking is ample and the ambiance is modern clean and nice. Definitely worth a try.
I don't usually eat pizza – especially not in Queens but when I heard that it's stuffed crusted pizza, my eyes lit up. Unfortunately, I did not think this place lived up to my expectations.
Interior/space wise, its really nice/clean/spacious! Walked in around 3:00 PM on a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait at all. The waiter sat my friends and I down quickly but also seemed a bit rushed. He kept coming back to ask if we were ready to order every 5 minutes – a bit annoying. When we were finally ready to order, he forgot our order (he didn't use anything to write it down) and had to come back again for us to remind him – a bit unprofessional no?
We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Pizza w/ Bite Crust and the Bacon and Shrimp Pasta. The Bacon and Shrimp Pasta was good BUT the portion was really small. Nothing too special about the pizza either except for the bite crust! The bite crust was really good and different. They incorporated sweet potato into the dough! I really really liked this! Our bill came out to be $60.00 w/ tax and tips. Definitely overpriced for two dishes. I don't think I will be returning.
We ordered the bulgogi pizza with bite crust + parmesan fries + seafood cream pasta & 2 glasses of house wine (red & white).
The bite crust is great. I love it. The bulgogi pizza part is alright. I think it would make more sense for the pizza to cost just the price of the pizza (without the extra additional cost of the crust). I think the crust is like an extra $4 or something, and the pizza was like $12 or so alone.
They didn't bring us water (maybe because we ordered wine but still, who does that), until we asked like 15 minutes after we arrived. On top of that, I've been here for the parmesan fries 2x before, and each time they've given us this spicy mayo sauce but this time there was none of that. When I asked, they just brought over that sauce stand with ketchup & garlic sauce and stuff. I don't know why they didn't give us that in the first place.
The seafood cream pasta was pretty good. The cream sauce is not a cream. It's more like a water soup? I still liked the flavor though. I wish there was more seafood. There were 2 mussels, maybe like 3 tiny shrimp, and 5 calamari rings…
There's a huge banner in front of the store (as of now anyway) that says there's a special new manager event with discounts on drinks. It's only Mon-Thurs though. We didn't know that and we ordered the wine, asking if it was half off like the banner said. The waitress didn't even seem to know that the banner was even up & she had to go and ask. And then she came back saying it wasn't available on Sundays, but she kind of sounded unsure as if it was never available. Also, even when it's valid, it's only 1 drink per person that is given a discount… Like what?
If I'm really craving that bite crust, I might come back. But there's other places I can go for everything I ordered for a more reasonable price. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the food – it was pretty tasty – but not sure if they was worth the prices.
Came here on a Saturday night. This place reminds me of pizza hut in Asia. There are pizza with stuff crust and weird toppings. We ordered the seafood pizza and the bulgogi pizza. They were both decent, but not mind blowing. Also, we got two orders of chicken drumsticks. They were way too much breading, but the sauce was good.
Overall, I would come again if I am at Bayside. But it isn't worth the trip if you are elsewhere like Flushing.
Everything here is decently priced. I thought it was an interesting place to try out when my friend said they served Korean pizza. I have never heard of such a thing and was excited to try it out. The restaurant is very spacious and the décor is really nice. My friend and I came here in the middle of the day for lunch and the music was playing way too loud. There were barely any customers in the restaurants, music does not need to be that loud. The music was loud enough that I had to raise my voice to talk to my friend. Really not necessary.
As for the food, we ordered the parmesan fries, bulgogi pizza, and a pasta that I don't remember the name of. The pasta was pretty good, I liked it since there was a hint of spiciness in there. Although it is just typical spaghetti, haha. The parmesan fries were nothing special. My friend had the honey fries last time and said it was really good, so I want to give that a try when I come back. The bulgogi pizza was way too much for me. Of course, we did not finish all the food. I personally like my pizza really thin crust, so I didn't really enjoy the pizza as much since we got it in the original crust. Overall, it was alright itself, not something to go crazy over. It had a bit too much flavoring for my likings. Most options were like any of the American pizza chain stores.
As soon as I walked in the place felt really upscale for a pizza and wing spot. We were seated and waited on quickly. We got the garlic chicken bbq pizza, spicy seafood tteobokki, and garlic wings. They also have a recent promotion for $11 pitcher of beer (we got Asahi) which is a steal since a typical glass of beer is $6. The garlic chicken pizza was delicious very soft with lots of toppings and not at all oily. The seafood tteobokki although seemed small is of course very filling and tasted pretty fresh. However the tteobokki wasn't at all spicy. The garlic chicken wings were awesome very crispy and had a great crunch on the outside but the meat was not dry at all and the sauce was great. The service was awesome but there weren't many people at the restaurant at the time. I would definitely come back here to try out more of there items. FYI they're having an additional all promotion for pokemon go customers depending on your level.
As you walked into Pizza Maru, you see the coolest tree trunk displayed in the middle of the restaurant along with the cutest seating area. It's quite spacious setting and we were seated right away to a half booth and chairs. I was looking all over the restaurant then my eyes locked to a booth in the other room so my friend asked our server if we can move to it…yea ME =) We flipped through the visually and colorful menu which is always so helpful choosing what to try first!
Who doesn't want to try some delicious Korean P I Z Z A yo =P
