Solid pizza and pasta in the area.
We stopped by with a reservation on a weekend as a party of 2, and it was fairly busy at 7:45 PM. We were seated in the back room area (it's larger than it seems), and we ordered the beef and mushroom rigatoni to share, along with a sausage pizza. The bread for the pizza was delicious, and the ingredients very tasty as well (although a little too much sauce in the middle, making the pizza a touch soggy), while the pasta was very tasty as well. Definitely among the better Italian options in the UWS, and I'd definitely come back to try some of the other dishes.
Amazing brick oven pizza on the upper west!! I came here to meet a friend on an early summer night. We were unsure if we wanted to sit inside or out – the staff said why not sit inside but next to the opening (floor to ceiling window that was taken out). They had a happy hour for 7$ wines and 5$ beers. I enjoyed a blue moon like beer (actually 2 of them) for dinner I ordered the brick oven pizza with arugula, balsamic, prosciutto and ricotta cheese and it was delicious!! Great portion sizes, I thought at first it was going to be too big but it was just right!!! It seems to be newer and was super clean!! The server was super helpful and friendly when we didn't know what to order (pretty cute too). We showed up around 6 and it wasn't too crowded but anything after 630 I'd suggest a reservation because when we were leaving there wasn't an open seat in the house!
Their pizza is unbelievable! I got their pie with chopped clams, parsley, garlic, lemon, and cream. HIGHLY recommend. A really cute place – they have outdoor seating to enjoy during warmer weather and they also take down their front windows when it's nice out so that people inside can enjoy the weather as well. They have a few happy hour drinks and small plates, as well a happy hour pizza! It's a new spot and was pretty busy for a Tuesday night… I see this place doing really well.
Mermaid Inn's old spot, with a front dining room and a back room. (Do they put better looking people in the front?) The ambience is cozy and at 6pm the space was way less crowded than its neighbor, since there is no happy hour to date.
Kale salad is very savory and the dressing is very garlicky, but the breadcrumbs are far inferior to croutons in terms of texture. Pies here are Neapolitan style – not crispy, but thin and doughy at the same time, and never have more than 5 toppings. If you are a NY-style pizza fan you won't like these. Also note that the pies here are really charred, which is a turn-off for some.
I got one of the "heartier" entrees – pork coppa with beans and broccoli. The pork was roasted overnight so it was extremely tender and flavorful. Portion size however was quite small, considering the fact that price of the dish was $10 more than average cost of a pizza here.
Service was really good, and the complimentary panna cotta (which was really heavy on vanilla extract) was perfect.
10 inch pizza is decent, but pretty greasy and not crispy at all (my plate was covered in oil and grease which obviously contributed to my pizza being a bit squishy). For $18 i would expect either a better quality pizza or a bigger portion.
The kale salad is definitely a highlight (and I am definitely not a kale fan normally!)
You get a complimentary panna cotta dessert which is both a nice surprise and is quite tasty!
As with the mermaid inn, the service is nice and the space is well decorated. This place is definitely kid friendly so expect to see large groups of uws families with kids in tow! You would probs be better off taking a date to the mermaid inn over here!
A welcome addition to the UWS but not without its flaws for now.
Summary
New brick oven pizza spot that does everything right. Flavor, drinks, value. Amazing spot for a fantastic pie with insanely great prices on wine bottles. This was an awesome spot for a date with my girlfriend and I'll be sure to come back for dinner with friends. Chilled out without even trying.
Atmosphere
Highly reminiscent of Pizza Beach on UES but with its own flavor. At first glance, this seems like an ok space, but just past the open kitchen is yet another room, making this place a fairly large restaurant. I loved the ambience, modern yet intimate and slightly rustic but bright. The bathrooms were absolutely pristine, 50 points for Gryffindor! Keep up the good work here!
Food
We got a side of the olives, which were a healthy portion to share of different kinds (not sure of names, but black, green, purple, etc). The buffalo mozzarella appetizer was so fresh and soft that it immediately melted on your palette. The sauce was a subtle yet flavorful accent. The flavors played very well off each other. For our main we shared the mozz/tomato/basil pie. Move over Co. and Motorino, I have to say this has now become my favorite pizza in the city! The crust was thin, crunchy on the outside, cloud soft on the inside. Perfection!
Drinks
Excellent selection of wines, local brews, and cocktails. The one thing that stood out to me was the prices for bottles of wine. VERY fair, so fair in fact, they are amongst the cheapest I've seen in the city. Wow! Might be a new watering hole!
Service
On point! Cannot complain. We got a very clear and concise rundown and made some great choices. Keep up the good work!
This place was excellent !!
Outside seating was perfect for a great weathered day. Ordered the tomato, spicy salami, olives and buffalo mozzarella. Such a great authentic Neopoliten pie. Delicious till the last bite, perfect crunchy yet not over cooked. The spicy salami will ensure a flavorful bite.
Staff was great and attentive I appreciated my water getting filled as soon as it was on the emptier side. While sitting outside the garage doors were outside and created a barrier between the outside and inside dinning room, the outside became a lot quieter but even with the doors opened it wasn't incredibly loud.
When you finish your meal you'll be treated to a complimentary custard like desert, no idea what it was but it was delicious ! Felt like a palette cleanser, great end to a meal. Will definitely be returning !
Excellent new spot and a great addition to the neighborhood that needs some more pizza like they're serving here.
They still seem to be polishing stuff up, as evidenced by the lack of dessert options and just a standard complimentary Panna Cotta brought out to everybody, but everything else was perfect, including all of the food we tried.
– Kale Salad
This was perfectly fine, a solid, tasty, fairly standard version of a kale salad.
– Rigatoni ($19)
This was an excellent, very satisfying pasta. Topped with beef and porcini ragu and pecorino, there was tons of flavor and a hearty portion of meat to go with the delicious pasta.
– Pizza with Tomato, Spicy Salami, Olives and Buffalo Mozzarella ($16)
The pizza here is the real winner, with a very puffy, chewy crust. This one was really incredible, with big slices of the spicy salami.
– Pizza with Spinach, Garlic, Hot Peppers and Fontina ($15)
Another pie, this one was white, a good contrast to the red mentioned above. This was also great, with the same perfect dough and deliciously salty fontina.
The space is very nice too, with an elevated back dining room providing a ton more space in addition to the small area up front. I would definitely return to try more pies and pasta and hopefully a dessert menu.
