“Clean, narrow place with plenty of big screen TVs and the bartenders always have the games on you want to watch.”

“The prices are more than fair, especially for an establishment in such a tourist-heavy area.”

  1. Pretty standard bar food menu here with most items being greasy or heavy in meat or bread.

The burger is a staple item and at 16$ it's pretty close to the pricing of most competitive bars. Nothing extra or fancy here (lunch special comes with free beer, wine, soda or water).

Burger comes with a pretty good amount of fries and condiments. It can be cooked how you like and usually is cooked well no matter how you ask it to be done.

I like my burgers with no red meat, every once in a while I'll get a piece of charcoal but this place actually was able to cook my burger all the way through and keep it juicy.

Service here is pretty great with a good number of staff on the floor at all times. Seating options also are plenty and they have tv's all over to keep you entertained.

Would recommend for a lunch if you're near by. Come with a friend, watch a game, laugh and don't forget to tip your waiter.

  2. its a fine irish bar… nothing wrong with in that regard, but there are just so so so many better offerings around midtown… is a decent starter… and you will have a good night here for sure… maybe just dont station up for the whole night!?

  3. Just another typical pub with plenty of seating and a good burger. Good spot on the block if you're meeting up with friends to catch up. Music isn't too loud where you have to shout and no ridiculous wait for a table. They have an upstairs section which had plenty of seating. I liked that our table had a mini tv for those who want to watch something besides what's on their large screens. I ordered the playwright burger and it was HUGE. Guacamole and sour cream slathered on top. Good burger. Fries were perfect.

  4. I have been here on two separate occasions, the first time I was upstairs and fell asleep in a on a sofa which we reserved and the bartender threw a lime wedge at us, but I have long since gotten over that. Lets talk about my visit last weekend. we where there for a birthday party ad had the upstairs sofa section reserved. The food platter they brought out was pretty delicious and the staff was super nice to us but some of the drinks where watered down. We ordered shots of bullet and its was so blatantly diluted with water and was way over priced.

  5. So I was a little disappointed when this is where I ended up for lunch-after all I was in midtown right next to little Korea and all sorts of fun restaurants-but everywhere we tried to go was either only serving drinks or too pricey (I was out shopping for bridal accessories which anyone who has ever looked at veils knows can run into the thousands if you're not careful) so here it was. Plus I was with my mom who wasn't feeling adventurous.

I had been here before but only to down Guinness' with friends when I first turned 21-this is an NYC classic as there is one in every tourist hot spot.

All of this is to say I spent a great couple of hours chomping bar food, sipping sangria and watching ufc with my mom (we're very traditional ; ).
The chicken fingers were good (who can go wrong wth chicken fingers) and the chicken tacos were awesome-really fresh yet spicy!

The bar was pretty empty (unlike the scene on a Saturday night) and the bartender was really cool! She told us about all their deals (which were a lot!) and gave us the happy hour price even though we ordered sangrias (which were not on the deal? Not sure lol there were so many random specials).

Anyway, we had a great time, had a few drinks and left full.

  6. I stopped by here over the weekend hoping that I could watch El Clasico with a couple of friends. I had already expected that the place was going to be packed, but what I didn't expect was the lack of respect shown from the doorman (call him a bouncer if you want).

My friend and I walked in and there was only standing room available, which is to be expected, especially with a huge sporting event taking place that day. I was fine with that. We were intent on ordering some food, and were waiting for the opportunity to make our way over to the bar area in order to do so, but it was a bit difficult to maneuver. We couldn't go upstairs because it was reserved, so that eliminated another alternative.

What happened next was what baffled me the most. We were in the establishment for about 15 minutes when the doorman/bouncer walked up to us and told us that we had to order something to drink or we had to leave. I told him that we wanted to order food and were trying to make our way to the bar area to do so. He gave me a look that seemed to question the motive behind such a decision. He briefly walked away and returned a couple of minutes later telling us that if we didn't order something to drink in 2 minutes that we would have to leave. The only other alternative he offered was to drop a $20 cover charge, which wasn't stated anywhere or communicated to us verbally BEFORE we walked in. Had I known that there was a ridiculous policy of forcing someone to order something within an allotted time slot I probably would have avoided this place entirely.

  7. We ducked in here to escape the cold and get some Irish coffee after looking at the windows at Macy's. The Irish coffee for $7 lured us in. We got the Bailey's coffee and the Mudslide. I liked the mudslide better, but both hit the spot. It was warm in toasty in the bar climate wise. The bartender was in work mood, professional, but not overly friendly. We sat at the bar, and i guess a server brought us our drinks. huh? She was friendly, but not always at the bar so were confused who to ask for stuff as the original bartender just kept walking past us. The bill came and we were surprised it was $24 for 2 Irish coffee's. However, we didn't read the sign carefully…The Jameson Irish Coffee on the chalkboard had a price of $7 below it, surrounding it were the other flavors with no price. Very misleading. I felt duped, but I should have known better. $12 for an Irish coffee? At least they were good! My only regret is that we didn't try the fries, the people next to us got them as we were leaving, boy did they look and smell divine.

  8. Playwright is a typical Irish-ish gastropub like most others you'll find in NYC, with one caveat… You're looking to pay 9$ for a pint! I had no idea when I came here, as typically a pint of Goose Island IPA is 6-7$ MAX non HH prices. It felt like a ton of bricks paying 9$ for a Goose Island, but at that point it was already poured. I'm guessing they deliberately do that because no sane person would pay 9$ for a common draft at a pub with prior knowledge. I was meeting a client here or else I would have gone elsewhere, the beer selection isn't anything to write home about either.

The barkeep was pretty good and friendly, there are screens everywhere showing various games and table service. Beyond that, avoid.
