  1. El mejor ceviche Peruano sin dudas!! So fresh and tasty! Personally I prefer the Ecuadorian ceviche which has more chopped tomatoes and soup, but I really enjoyed this Peruvian version of mixed seafood (squid, octopus, shrimp, & fish) ceviche with tangy spicy sauce with crunch roasted corn and lots of sliced onions!! Que rico!!! Mmmmmm!!! And the best of it all is the price! It's less than $15 for this huge generous serving!! It's an amazing deal, I recommend sharing this because it's too much for 1 person!!

According to my Peruvian friends who brought me here today, they claim that Hiro's Parillada is one of the best affordable Peruvian restaurants in NJ and they say it's even better than the infamous "El Chevere" chains in Passaic. Besides the ceviche, I had the following:

    1) Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian version of Chinese fried rice): Slightly spicy and tastes pretty close to Thai fried rice. Very good! 4 star!

2)Papas a la Huancayna (fried potatoes served with a spicy, creamy sauce called Huancaina sauce):  Instead of the usual boiled potatoes, here they served them fried but I guess it's a good thing because they were yummy!! Think of salchipapas without sausages, it tastes like that. So unrefined, so unsophisticated, so fattening, but so addictive! 4.5 star!

3)camarones fritas con yuca frita: 3 stars. Too bland, didn't impress me.

4)Aguadito de Pollo (Peruvian chicken gizzard, rice & cilantro soup) – very hearty, light, and tasty! Make sure you add some lime juice! Mmmm! 4 stars!

    5)Flan – 3.5 stars. It's good, but not amazing.

The service was great too. This place is perfect for a cheap group dining. Not the best location, but it's in a relatively safer part of Newark. I'm really surprised that someone else has already yelped about this place!! Dang, there are Yelpers everywhere indeed!!! Next time I've gotta try their parilladas!!

  2. I hate to give 1 star but I have no choice 🙁 Stopped by and decided to pick up a couple empanadas on a Tuesday around 2pm only to be told they had 3 left. I took this as a good sign, payed almost $9 for 3 and left. When I got home and happily took a first bite I was greeted with such a thick grainy dough that it was hard to swallow. It wasn't until my third bite that I finally encountered some filling and that was worst then the dough. The empanada was supposed to be made of beef but you could say it looked and tasted like mystery meat. The "beef had a weird translucent color and was almost dehydrated when it came to texture oh and of course no flavor. There was a slice of hard boiled egg inside but it looked greenish so that's when I made the educated decision and threw mine out. I gave one of the remaining empanadas to my cousin to try and he also threw his out. Would I venture and go back to this place and try anything else? Absolutely not unless I was going to get my $9 back for those questionable and uneatable empanadas!
