We have been here twice in the last two weeks. The first time to try it, and the second time because we just had to stop by and get some more!
The chicken here is AMAZING! So is the green sauce that comes with it.
The green plantains, beans, rice – everything else exceeded our expectations.
Along with that we had great service too – what a great place to stop by for dinner or lunch! We also saw that they do delivery, so we will be trying that for sure in the near future.

Really like this small cute place. I'm on a health challenge right now and what I love at this spot is that you can just order 1/4 chicken and a salad and not a plate which includes carbs. Some other spots you can order separately too but they charge more. Nice and plus green sauce is great.
We ordered octopus salad appetizer ($10), and the "Conquistador Combo" – a whole chicken, maduros, tostones, salchipapas, rice and beans ($28) and a pitcher of sangria ($25). Yes…a lot of food for two girls…but we were hungry. The octopus salad wasn't what I expected and was a bit odd tasting. They went a bit heavy on the white pepper. Pretty much a couple slices of octopus (points for not being rubbery) mixed in with some lettuce and cucumbers. Would pass on it next time. Chicken was seasoned nicely. Maduros and tostones were pretty standard. The fries in the salchipapas were really good. The beans were rocking. Pour this stuff all over your rice! Sangria was delish, too. We each had 1/4 chicken and some sides leftover. All that food for about $35 each…2 meals a person, so definitely not bad. And also…I've never had Pio before, so I can't compare…but by itself, Cuzco is worthwhile.
We had take-out from Pollos Cuzco Restaurant. Like most people, we paid for the food and took the bag without looking, trusting that Pollos Cuzco got our order correct.
However, when we got back to the hospital and looked in the bag, we realized that they screwed up our order. We called the restaurant but they refused to give us the food we paid for. They told us that since we didn't check the bag we forfeited the money we paid.
Needless to say, we are very angry at Pollos Cuzco Restaurant, so I began to look closer at the restaurant and found, to my horror, that this restaurant is food poisoning waiting to happen. It has been infested with both mice and cockroaches
According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Pollos Cuzco Restaurant has been cited for the following health violations:
March 19, 2015
* Tobacco use or eating / drinking in food preparation or food storage area.
* Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized.

* Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated flies (flesh flies, blow flies, house flies, etc) present in facility's food and/or non-food areas.
September 16, 2014

March 6, 2014
* Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food / non-food areas.
July 29, 2013
* Live roaches present in facility's food / non-food areas.
Additionally, after spending over a month in Peru, I have to say that this food is not authentic Peruvian food. Although we were disappointed in the food quality, and after reading about the mice and cockroaches that have been observed here, I'm now worried that I may have eaten mouse droppings or dead cockroaches.
We smelled the greasy food from outside but upon opening the door, we were slammed with thick greasy smoke, the restaurant was so poorly ventilated that it was actually smokey white inside. -1 Star
We ordered a pitcher of Sangria around 8pm and were told they had no more. We asked for just a glass to try it, they had none. For a restaurant who served Sangria as it's sole form of alcohol, it was pretty sad to be out of it by 8pm on a weekend. -1 Star
Our Order
We ordered Combo #3 [ A whole chicken, Salchipapas (sliced hotdog over fries), rice, beans , salad, tostones (Sub Fried Cassava for the Salad)] for $24, cheap. We also ordered Tallarin Saltado Con Carne[(linguini sauteed, strip of beef w/red bell peppers, onions and tomatoes)].
The Taste
I was excited everything was so cheap, side dishes for only $3, it was like the orig Pio Pio prices! But in 2011! Upon being served our dishes over 30 min later, I realized the food is pretty close to Pio Pio, if not a little greasier BUT the portions are incredibly small. The Salchipapas was a large portion but not nearly as good as other places. The Tostones, Cassava and Beans were excellent. Chicken was good. Tallarin was salty.
The Service
There was only one true waiter and another guy helping out a bit. Service was very slow.
I would go back for the food but probably will not as there are other better options out there.
Stopped in on a quiet holiday evening. Nice ambience with requisite Aztec deities on the wall.
Aguacate salad contains iceberg lettuce, fresh avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers and a spicy dressing.
Chicken was very good, maduros were excellent, rice and beans very tasty.
We tried rice pudding/corn pudding combo for dessert. I liked it, but it's not for everybody.
The wife was not dazzled, I thought it was pretty good,so overall we'll give it 3.75 stars.
Every time I call for a delivery, the person taking orders makes me repeat everything at least 3x. I get put on hold several times and I hate repeating myself! Twice our delivery was late and after an hour, I wondered if they even took my order.
There's plenty new Peruvian rotisserie places that opened up.
So unless you're going to eat in or pick it up, don't bother calling in an order.
Pio Pio better watch out.
There's a new kid on the block and it's not as obnoxiously loud.
Love the decor and the overall ambiance. It feels intimate and authentic.
Excellent chicken, maduros and tostones have been perfect every time I've stopped by, excellent chicken soup, and the Jalea is good. Their green sauce is on par with the better-known Peruvian restaurant.
Service is still lacking in the speed department, but they're very courteous.
