Pollo Gus has become one my favorite lunch spots in Jackson Heights. Their lunch special is tough to beat. For $5.99, they serve 1/4 of a chicken, rice w/ lentil beans, and a side of chicken soup. The service is always pretty fast, the waitresses and chefs are always polite and friendly.
The chicken, the past few times I've been here, they've been serving me the leg and thigh part which I really like. Gotta love that dark meat. The green sauce they make is also bangin! I think it's mayo base, with lime and guacamole. The rice and lentil beans here is what makes this lunch special even better. Most places serve black beans or pinto beans. It's nice to have something different. The soup is also very refreshing. It's a strong chicken broth with veggies and a piece of chicken.
Verdict – A really top notch spot for lunch in this area. I had lunch here 3 days in a row. The food is always good and fresh. I often see many employees from Elmhurst Hospital here. The only downside is that they do not accept credit. Cash only.
They didn't really speak English so the waitress asked me if I wanted thighs or breasts by pointing to her own. The food was good, in a way cheap food can sometimes be more satisfying than a fancier alternative. But it was just all around uncomfortable to eat there. The tables and floors and probably every other surface in the restaurant is covered with an oily film, so that's a bit of a turn off. Then in the middle of the meal, a homeless woman came by to ask for donations at every table. It took a while before someone who worked there decided to make her leave.
When I left, I thought I'd eventually go back, especially since it's such a good deal. But it seems now that each time I think about going, I feel an unsettling sense of dirtiness about the place.
Good. Cheap. Fast.
Can't go wrong with anything you pick…

Wow, yummy yummy yummy!!!!! Try the seafood chaulafan(fried rice) with lots and lots of aji (green sauce). The food gets a 5 but overall a 3.5 for the following:
1. As soon as I walked into the place it felt like a bakers oven, it was very hot and sticky in there.
2.The waitresses were chilling by a corner table, and didn't bother to stand up nor greet me and my cousin.
3. They don't sell alcoholic beverages, which was strange for a Latin restaurant.
4.The waitress took her sweet time to charge us.
But its a 3.5 because of the very yummy delish food.
